Ik ben John Kraft (fotograaf/vormgever) en ik zeil al sinds mijn achtste jaar. Het zeilen begon ik in een "ZEF" en later in een "OK-jol" en een "Laser". Eerst nog op de plassen bij Maasbommel, later op het Markermeer en het IJsselmeer. Met gehuurde schepen of als opstapper zeilde ik vervolgens op de Middellandse Zee, de Atlantische Oceaan en de Noordzee.
Inmiddels zeil ik met Debora of alleen op onze 43ft Nordica en hebben wij zeilenmetMONK opgericht om ook anderen kennis te laten maken met het zeilen.

Solozeilen met MONK
Solo zeilen met MONK van Ketelhaven naar Stavoren, en weer terug. Tweede keer solo maar nu met soms behoorlijke wind op het IJsselmeer.

Op ons zeiljacht MONK organiseren wij o.a. teamdagen. Kijk mee op onze eerste dag met 8 gasten aan boord. Voor ons was dit een testdag, werkt het met zoveel mensen aan boord en hoe ervaren onze gasten de combinatie van zeilen en werken aan een thema? Na de opgelopen schade konden we eindelijk weer de zee op. Midden maart dus best een uitdaging om door het kanaal te zeilen. #zeilen #kanaal #noordzee

Onze zeil reis naar de Middellandse zee kwam abrupt tot een einde na een navigatiefout net buiten de haven van Cherbourg. Herstel van de schade nam enkele maanden in beslag. #zeilen #noordzee #france

First part of our sailing trip from the Netherlands to the Mediterranean. We sail from Ketelhaven to Enkhuizen, take the locks to the Markermeer and sail further to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam to IJmuiden where we go through the locks to get on the Northsea!

Mooi man, eindelijk weer een video over het varen en niet over groepsgedoe aan boord.
Dat "groepsgedoe" is hartstikke leuk, misschien eens aan boord komen:)
Monk is toch wel een prachtige boot hoor. Heerlijk filmpje! Wij kwamen jullie tegen in Oostende toen we terug kwamen van onze Zuid England trip. Groetjes Nico en Githa!

Te druk bezig met de zeilen zetten en in gedachten al in de Golf van Biskaje. Buiten de betonning zit een strekdam die met HW onder water staat. Enfin je raad het al...

Erg leuke video! Ik kijk uit naar de volgende. Misschien kunnen jullie overwegen lekker ‘smooth’ in jullie moedertaal te praten en te vertellen en wat tijd in goede Engelstalige ondertiteling te investeren? Het komt nu niet zo spontaan over, ondanks jullie prima beheersing van het Engels. (Alleen maar een tip, geen kritiek)

Nice that you watched our videos and got excited about the 933! MONK has a 1.45 deep keel, the 933 is also produced with a 1.80m and a 1.32m keel.
Leuke video. De plotter geeft een mooi gedetailleerd beeld. Welke navigatie software gebruik je?
Ik gebruik Isailor, vind ik grafisch het mooist maar twijfel of het allemaal goed geüpdatet wordt.
In de video in de hal vond ik uw nieuwe boot een beetje bijzonder, zelfs een beetje raar. Maar wat is die 'serre' megamooi en functioneel. Veel geluk met de nieuwe Monk!
Ik moest er ook een beetje aan wennen maar het is een fijn schip, bedankt!

whats the hull construction like on these? is it like the contest with balsa under the waterline?
Hull and deck hand laid, sandwich laminate with 30 mm Divinycell core (rigid foam). Hull-deck joint screwed together.

How do you keep your wind vane lines so tight?
I have two clam cleats on the tiller to adjust the vane lines. I've the feeling that the vane works better with tight lines.
@@sailingvesselmonk OH yes, as the lines work lose, one loses responsiveness (ie 'snake' more). Mine goes to a wheel drum so a cam cleat is not an option. Been thinking of going to wire (with a tensioning device).

Neat to see my old playground going back to the sixties, from my teen years, be it that back then it was strictly swimming in the summer months and watching the Ketelbrug being built by 1970. Not much recreational boating back then, compare to today. From 4m below sea level Emmeloord in 1975 to 1100m above sea level in landlocked Calgary Alberta Canada, I finally got my first "tub" in 1985 and in 2006 had the good fortune to sail on an old early 1900 flat bottom freighter, modified back to a sailing ship, helming her from Urk to Enkhuizen and back with my 11 siblings and their partners. Conny Van Rietschoten sailed the same waters in his younger years (Zwartewater). Connie was the winner of the 1977 Whitbread Race (later the Volvo race) around the world on The Flyer, a S&S designed 68' Ketch, build by Royal Huisman Yachts just to the east in Vollenhoven. Obviously seeing these images brings back memories and I am so happy that I had the opportunity in 2006 to sail the playgrounds of my teen years. Since my early semi retirement in 2007 sailing & racing has been and still is a big part of my life, both a bit on the west coast of British Columbia & Washington state, but mainly on Okanagan lake BC, Canada on Quintessence a Dehler 29. Keep the videos from these waters and area coming and I will view them with hopefully the same interest as all the other "U"tubers covering sailing adventure from my old playground around het Ijsselmeer.
Thanks for your story, I can imagine it's nice to see images of your old playground:) I did not know that Conny van Rietschoten sailed here, I saw the "Flyer" at the last Volvo Ocean race in Lisbon, a beautiful yacht!
@@sailingvesselmonk Connie van Rietschoten wrote a book titled "The Flyer", in an early chapter he writes about sailing "op het Zwartewater", dat ligt tussen Vollenhove and De Ketelbrug. I can't remember if I read the English or Dutch version, maar het is sterk aanbevolen om het boek te lezen.

I spent another two weeks wandering around Norway alone before my wife arrived in Kristiansand by ferry. Gorgeous coastlines and nice towns! Nice of you to follow the channel!
