@@Katana-Karl i love the way it feels to cut through it’s weird how the strength doesn’t really come from the arms for the cuts to work it’s more of a core and rotation feeling at least that’s how the experience this time was

Horizontal is way harder cutting directly across the grain. Looked good anyway, that's a demanding cut

@@TONEDEAFSOUND one thing i like to do is unroll the pieces and lay them evenly, slightly overlapping inside a new half-mat. That way you can get a lot of mileage out of a box. Just gotta roll them super tight. (Tighter/denser is always better because it feels super satisfying and gives you more ... face to press against. Ahaha that sounded weird

Sounds weird but for he actually did the footwork correctly imo. To generate more power, just sneak a tiny step sideways for the horizontal, just enough to to shift the weight crosswise in the direction of the cut. Having the lead foot slightly forward for horizontals is standard in Toyama-Ryu, Seiti, etc. One interesting difference is that European martial arts do it the opposite, switched like you said.@@JediContrast

Depends on your traditions. Unless you are following a Ryuha, nothing is carved in stone.
