To describe Nadia Comaneci as a legend is only the half of it. Closer to the mark is the term goddess. No, that falls short too. She is magic: pure, unadulterated magic. Recently, the sports and entertainment news has focused on the Ana Barbosu & Gordon Chiles controversy. And very recently it appears that Ana of Romania is the clear winner. Ana Barbosu is getting prettier every day I see her online. But that doesn't stop me from loving Nadia. We go back 48 years to the Montreal Olympics, 1976 when I first saw Nadia on the floor, moving about so gracefully, like honey on velvet. I could just eat her up. Except I don't like to eat velvet. I knew she loved me when I watched the 1980 Olympics, and she streaked toward the vault with no chest stabilization. This had to be love. And later on down the timeline, Nadia revealed a gigantic cross pendant that melted my Christian side. This reminded me of 1 Corinthians 2:2, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." Jesus + cross = love. I could go on and on, glorifying my Jesus. The deeper one gets into the New Testament, the clearer one realizes that Jesus is central to the Word: It is only thru Christ Jesus that we are saved. From the famous salvation verse John 3:16, " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." So it's all about Jesus, and belief in Him. The 2nd famous salvation verse is Romans 10:9 which reads, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." By believing that Jesus has been raised and is alive, we are saved. It takes faith to believe that a dead man is alive and active. And faith is a cornerstone of Christianity. (2 Corinthians 5:7) "For we live by faith, not by sight." And (Hebrews 11:6) "And without faith it is impossible to please God..." God here can be viewed as the Triune God (The Trinity), and the Trinity, the Godhead, in bodily form is Jesus! " For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9). I surely could go on and on about Jesus, and how important He is. I finish with an old poem focusing on the Lord Jesus: To know thee more clearly; to follow thee more nearly; to love thee more dearly. These things I pray. I am glad that Ana Barbosu is still the winner of the bronze. I know that you must be happy, Nadia. And that makes me happy. Bart has a really nice speaking voice! Love, Jim
