How to change a tire with no jack.

While doing some house keeping in the Jeep to get ready for hunting, I neglected to put my Jack back in the Jeep. If you find yourself in a situation like this, hopefully this might help you get out too!! Learn from my mistakes. Enjoy!
DYI Jeep JK onboard air compressor system.
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Check out my onboard air compressor system I made from modifying an AC compressor out of a 2011 Jeep liberty. I was able to do this for just under $100.00. I sourced the AC pump from a local auto wrecker for $45.00.
😎
I am doing the same swap. 08 jk, 2020 durango hemi. I am really curious about the AC lines. Your videos have helped immensely with my project. Keep up the good work!
@@shaunforgacs6296 awesome I’m glad to hear that. I haven’t installed the ac lines yet. I will most likely get them made up at our local hydraulic hose shop. Been to busy with work and renovations to get more content out. But I will definitely touch on that when I get some time. Thanks for the comment!
I got very simple mechanical skills like brakes and oil changes, but this was very entertaining for me to watch. Gives me hope of someday being able to do this swap with my 08 JK.
@@JamesTyranski it’s not that bad. Just one step at a time. Thanks for the feedback. You got this!
These videos made the swap 100X easier! Thanks for taking the time to do them!
@@jeremyhammer2422 really appreciate the feedback. I’m glad the videos were able to help you out!
Great series of videos on all the steps. I have an 08 JKU R.. You have such a calm voice and great humour, i would have been cursing a lot along the way. Looks like the 3 main tools you used were the pick, body removal tool and the 3/8 or 1/4" ratchet Milwaukee ! I don't weld so i guess the bolt-in mounts would be my better choice. Couple questions are 1: do you think there would be much interference (engine/manifolds) with a long arm kit? 2:What transfer case do you have? i have the Rubicon and have heard/read that it's better to have the non-Rubicon t.c. I recognized your area/neighbourhood on your driving, as i lived on the other side in K town for many years.
@@grantjohnson8396 haha thanks, ya those tools are key. I wish I would have had that Milwaukee ratchet years ago. That thing is amazing. I would stick to the non-Rubicon case. Unless you’re heavily into rock crawling. I don’t see a long arm kit being an issue. That is something I will be doing in the near future.
Curious if you had to make any front suspension changes due to the additional weight?
@@JamesBrown-ox8vz the front settled about 1”. So lost that in up travel. If you would like to correct that, you can use the front coils from a JT Gladiator diesel. They have a heavier spring. This will be the route I take when I correct the sag in mine.
@@JKB_OFFROAD_olllllllo hey I forgot to add I really enjoyed your video series and appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to vlog it! Hope you are still enjoying the Jeep and getting many smiles per gallon! Thanks again!
@@JamesBrown-ox8vz awesome. I appreciate the feedback. I’ve been pretty wrapped up in work and renovations at the moment. But I will be getting back at it soon. Specifically the total cost video. I know there are subscribers patiently waiting.
When's the Total Cost going to be posted??
That insulation wrap job looks great. You are doing an excellent job.
@@l84jk31 i appreciate it! Thanks! Worked out great.
What are the benefits with a bead lock?
@@TheMuscelBoy Beadlocks allow you to air your tire down to single digits with your tire falling off the wheel. Or popping a bead. I’ve had them down to 2.5 lbs in snow, which works great. Allows for a bigger footprint, to stay on top of the snow. High horsepower rigs have them to stop the tire from spinning on the wheel.
How much horse power did you had just with the mufflers and then the hemi
@@TheMuscelBoy the Ram hemi has 395 with the active runner valve. Mine is an LX hemi. Don’t doesn’t have the runner valve. From what I’ve read, the runner valve gets 15 hp over the Lx. So that puts it at approximately 375-380 ish. I am going to get it tuned in the near future. I will be doing a before and after video on that. So we will see!
When can we expect the last video of the Hemi series
@@paulrobillard2807 soon! Im a seasonal worker and my work season kicked off last month. And I’m in the middle of renovating my kitchen at the moment on my days off. Extremely busy. But it’s in the works!! Thanks for inquiring! I haven’t forgotten about you guys. Thanks for checking in!
Great video and information. People are missing out on this goldmine build.
Thank you very much I appreciate it! Glad you’re finding it useful!
Did you use Hotwire kit?
Yes sir! Check out video 5. It goes over pretty well everything I used.
Did you have any issues with any of the other modules communicating with the ECU? I.e BCM
@@XKJeepin no I did not. I used the Hotwire Auto harness and computer. Everything works seamlessly.
Yes, great kit. All plug and play. With a few wires that had to be spliced into the C3 main harness plug.
On the ECU, do you know what they don’t the ECU in order for your factory key to work on the ignition and did the update the VIN to your jeeps VIN? Your swap was one of the best I seen. I didn’t see if yours had a DBW or DBC.
I can absolutely do that. Appreciate the feedback. Sounds like you have a pretty cool Jeep!
Thank you for your informative, detailed, well-done and enjoyable series. I watched it to gain details, learn methods and pick up some tips about the Jeep JKU platform. I have a 2007 Jeep JKU with a Cummins 4BT and a 4L60E transmission. This was purchased largely complete. I have been improving it and would like to maintain it well. Would you consider raising your voice-over volume when you are working? Very good work on your swap and your documentary.
Very happy for you !! I've been torn between the 2 swaps but I think the LS is my route cost wise, right now, it just seems to be a better option. I loved following this build though !!! Great work
Thanks, appreciate that! Whether you go LS or Hemi, you won’t be disappointed! You’re pretty well doubling your horsepower either way.
Dose Hotwire make the 8 speed harness I didn’t see it on their page
Yes they do. Give Chris a call. I was unaware at the time as well. I sourced everything I needed for the Hemi Swap through Hotwire Auto. He sells all of JSS parts.
That sounds soooo gooood 😮
Thank you. I love it! I go over the exhaust system in the next video. Stay tuned!!!
Awesomeness, nothing like a HEMI. Congrats.
Appreciate it! Thank you!
Pretty sweet!
Thanks!
Hey there. I’m a big fan of your video series. I’m definitely more comfortable doing a hemi swap after watching this. Thanks for the videos.
I’m glad you’re finding the videos useful. It’s a pretty straightforward job. Just a bunch of small details. You got this!
How can we get a hold of you if we have a couple questions about your build. Just got my jeep and curious about a few things.
jkboffroad@gmail.com anytime!
I’ve asked Todd @JSS if they sell a complete kit with the computer flashed, transmission tapped and any other modifications that need to be done.
How did you get the fan to clear the water pump pully?
I notched the 4 holes on top of the grille support about 3/8-1/2” to tilt the grille forward. Then tighten them back down. I forgot to add that in the video.
I figured with WK water pump and accessories there wouldn't be any clearance issues. I have the same motor, 2020 Durango, I scored the transmission from the same vehicle. thanks for your videos. particular the part numbers. great asset.
@@shaunforgacs6296 when doing the aftermarket v8 swap radiator and Camaro fan there are no clearance issues. That can’t be said with the stock fan assembly and radiator. I was expecting this to be the case, using the stock setup. All Jeeps vary slightly in the engine compartment. Some will have minor clearance issues, some will not.
It’s really coming together! Good job man
Thank you! Appreciate it!
I have tuned tons of these swaps . It's super cool for sure.
Awesome! Where are you located?
i have been looking everywhere for that fitting that attaches to the power steering pump. where were you able to find one?
Yes the high pressure side on the gear box is 18x1.5 and the return side is 16x1.5. The threads on the Mopar pump that I posted in the Hemi walk around video is 20x1.5 thread pitch. The parts are found at your local hydraulic shop. For myself, it was Al’s Hose and All. I’m in Canada.
@JKB_OFFROAD_olllllllo sorry I didn't clarify I was referring to the fitting on the pump side of the reservoir. It's one of the last pieces I need to start putting the front back together. It kinda looks like an ac fitting.
The fitting I used for the reservoir came off an AC pump. That can also be found at a hydraulic shop. As far as the OEM part number, I’m not sure.
@JKB_OFFROAD_olllllllo awesome I know where to start looking. Thanks for all the info!
@@Marktwain0241 the fitting I used for the reservoir was originally cut off a high pressure ac line at a salvage yard. To convert an ac pump to an onboard air compressor for my 3.8l.
LOL man the look on your face was mint !!! Nice work
I knew it was going to be loud lol, But I wasn’t anticipating it to be that loud. The video doesn’t do it justice.
Great videos man! It’s coming along I’m happy for ya bud!
Thanks, appreciate it!
Awesomeness, congratulations.
Thanks you!
Some of the other vids I’ve seen show mounting the engine using the TOP motor mount holes, this is the first one I’ve seen using the BOTTOM holes. Is it personal preference, or is there a specific reason as to which holes you choose to mount to? I would assume the lower holes offer a lower center of gravity but what about clearance for front axle and other components? Thank you for such detailed vids!
I didn’t like the angle of the motor in the top location. My exhaust manifolds were too close to the firewall. Also found the bottom holes clearances the firewall a bit more behind the heads. Every Jeep is slightly different, so you kinda just have to play around with what works in your situation.
That’s the answer I was looking for! Thx man, I appreciate it!
Thank you for all of the great information in 1 video. I am going with the same front accessories setup except with the 6.4L. Looking forward to the rest of your videos to see the finished product!
You’re welcome! Sorry for the delay! Hope you’re finding the series informative! Good luck with your swap!
Hell brother, I'm doing this swap and just got the motor in. I'm wondering is there any specific ecm I need to buy when buying a used one for my 2013 jk
I would contact Liz with Jeep Speed Shop or Chris from Hotwire Auto. My Jeep is the 2007-2011. I don’t want to give you any wrong information as all my research was for my specific year. Sorry for the delay, I missed this comment.
Great information!! I also sourced a 2020 durango 5.7 and trans. Did you have to change the transfer case adaptor?
My transmission came from a 2017 Ram. It came with the 4x4 adapter.
I really like what you have done with the shifter boot. I also would if the hot wire harness worked out and why you used there computer instead of JSS?
Hotwire harness was flawless. As you will see in the next video. I used the Hotwire harness simply because of cost. Hotwire uses used computers. And the cost is half the price of JSS’s new computers.
@@JKB_OFFROAD_olllllllo In their harness I didn’t see you install the OBD port for the transmission. Does it have one? I’ve watched every video I could find for the last 2 years and you have shown some really good stuff. thank you.
@@tommygrayjeepguy yes it has one. It comes with a USB adapter for it. I apologize for the delay. I missed your comment.
Pretty sweet. What made you choose the liberty pump?
I was looking for the highest output pump on the Sanden website. Found the part number, then cross referenced it on the Mopar parts list and that one came up.
Looks great, looking forward to the rest of the series !!
Much appreciated! Thank you! Lots to come.
Outstanding, I want to put a HEMI in my 2016 JKU so bad.
Do it! You won’t regret it!
Love this whole series, I sub'd as well. Once done maybe a wrap up video from a higher level of parts and lessons learned? Just a thought and then you can reference specific video's that have more in-depth information on that specific portion. Plus mabe a final cost for the project too... I'm still on the fence LS or Hemi with 8 speed ... Thanks for putting this out there cheers from AB
I plan on doing a wrap up video when the swap is complete. As well as a parts break down and total cost in the end. As far as a "higher level of parts" and "referencing specific videos for more in-depth information", can you clarify what you mean by that? Are you looking for me to reference videos outside of my channel or videos I have uploaded? I'll do what I can to accommodate. Thanks for reaching out!
@@JKB_OFFROAD_olllllllo Hey, sorry I was just thinking of just your video's for people in the wrap up video. I see some content channels doing a reference back to previous video's to help the sub's quickly go to it. It's as simple as a link in the comments section. Just thinking out loud for you, your series are very good and the information is direct with good coverage on the process you went through. I've watch to many video's on this process with both Hemi and LS ... Hence the reason I'm on the fence still and I have a 2015 Rubicon so I am leaning Hemi ... but cost right. Thanks again
Not a problem. I will definitely go into a detailed breakdown in the wrap up video. Thanks for your input! I would personally go Hemi. All parts are Mopar part numbers. And the simplicity of the swap is just that, simple. You’re only adding the one TCM for the 8 speed. I was also on the fence with a Turbo LS. But Jeep Speed Shop and Hotwire Auto have the Hemi swap dialled.
Thanks for being thorough in your videos! You said you got your wiring harness from Hotwire auto but Jeep speed shop flashing your TCM? I figured they would only do this if you purchased their wiring harness? I am looking to go hotwireauto for the wiring also but use jeep speed shop for all the mounts/accessories as you did.
I purchased my wiring kit and all Jeep Speed shop components through Hotwire Auto. He sells JSS parts. He just doesn’t advertise it. Which included: 5.7 wiring harness 8 speed kit (Harness and TCM) Motor mounts Steering relocation bracket B-Plate and shifter floor plate. If you want tap shift to work, you need to take the computer out of your 8 speed transmission by removing the oil pan and valve body. Send it to JSS so Liz can flash it with a charger tune. I’m not sure if Chris offers that service. I didn’t think to ask at the time. Wouldn’t hurt to ask him while you are ordering your parts. Hope that clears things up. Good luck!
JSS will flash your transmission computer for free. You just have to pay for shipping and have a return shipping label attached.
Great series! Good details
I appreciate it! Thanks!
Incredible information! Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome. Thanks for interacting with the channel!
Thanks for posting. About to tackle this on my 08 JK. Any reason you didn’t take the drivetrain out as an assembly with the hoist?
I explain this in the next video. But I chose that route for the guys just doing a rebuild on the 3.8l. But yes, It would have been much easier to pull the whole assembly at once.
I heard you mention that but wasn’t sure if there was another reason. Good idea as I don’t think there are alot of videos of just pulling the 3.8L alone!
Nope that was the only reason I went that route @@TwebaMH I haven't come across any 3.8L removals. So I thought I'd help out the guys needing a little guidance.
Great job! Thank you so much
You’re very welcome. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the detailed video ! Do you leave the vehicle in park for the entire procedure ?
Yes I did. With the driveshafts still attached to the transfer case and transmission, it won't roll anywhere. But once the driveshafts are removed, it will be free to roll on an uneven surface. Put something behind the wheels to stop it from rolling. But if you're just doing a rebuild and not touching the driveshafts, you have nothing to worry about. Good luck!
Man, thank you for going through this!!! I have a 3.8 and have wanted to do a hemi swap but had a really hard time piecing all the steps together. This is awesome!!
