It is even harder to wrap your head around it when you are standing (or fleeing) from wildfire. It is bigger and faster than you can possibly imagine. At one point during the hurricane winds -- the fire was moving at 5 footballs per minute. I personally have fled one of these wildfires with my family with the clothes on my back -- and as it was happening -- I definitely did not understand how big and fast the fire was growing.

Born and raised in LA here. High winds are the worst thing that can happen during a fire storm. The wind literally blows burning embers to other areas of dry land causing mass spread and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. Wind will never put out a fire in a region that only sees rain 12 days out the year. And multiple reserves have gone dry before. This isn’t new. This isn’t a conspiracy. It’s just the very worse of a weather related disaster. Like Katrina. Like the Haiti earthquake. Like the tsunami. Like the Hawaii fires. It’s incredible sad.
