Yamaha FZ6S FAZER farewell review
Просмотров 800Год назад
Welcome to my long-term 15 year ownership review of Yamaha's FZ6S FAZER. She's served me well over the years but it might be time to move this low-mileage example on to another lucky rider.
Mount Nebo & Mount Glorious - Raw footage from previous video, please see 'Description.'

IMPORTANT - This video has no commentary other than the introduction and is basically the raw footage from the full “Twisty” section from the previous video, starting from “The Gap” over Mt Nebo & Mt Glorious to Red Cedar Park and back again. The video may be a little monotonous, but this is a great road if you’re ever in the Brisbane area. I experimented with the "About Brisbane" format (a mor...

After neglecting the Yamaha Fazer for a year in favor of the Suzuki V-Strom 250, today we return to the sports bike for a trip into the Brisbane hinterland.
2 up touring on a V Strom 250?

The big test for the little V-Strom 250 - what's she like at 2-up touring? Could this be an 'Only' bike? How does the 2-up fuel economy and performance compare with solo riding? V Strom 250 - The Perfect Bike?

Small displacement bikes can be as much fun as larger capacity bikes. You can use all of the engines power without going at license-losing speeds. Here’s the story of my search for a replacement small bike that met all my needs, and why I settled on the Suzuki V-Strom 250

A beautiful area an hour north of Brisbane Australia. Music - Redemption by Audiobinger with thanks.
WHY the terrible music?
On reflection, good question that!
I bought mine the other week but havent been able to ride it due to putting my hand in a circlesaw earlier this year. Got such a good deal on that i could not say no.... So looking forward to testing it out.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. I appreciate your comment, good choice on the bike and hope you get to ride it soon 😎
@@sergeantmagi Thanks man, im on the way and it looks good. It's always nice to see/listen to someone with similar views on riding.
Cant buy this in India. Love the look❤
Yeah it's quite a big bike for the cc and looks good. I think you have the SX version which looks pretty good, thanks for watching and commenting 😄
Due to rear harder side suspension i dropt it still waiting suzuki come with softer sude suspension because in india almost all reads r not nice
Probably not a bad idea going for an off road bike to soak up the bumps. Thanks for watching 😎
@@sergeantmagi no sur.. vstorm except suspension N MISSING TFT consoles everything is awesome I WILL wait for better suspension tuned by Suzuki example Bmw 310gs in india .I'm not off road man.. but in Indian roads we need more softer suspension like BMW 310gs n hero old CBZ XTREME N OLD KARISHMA so waiting
Hey brother i am from India I have a question when will be this v Strom 250 model launching in India any idea?
Hi Brother, I believe my DL vstrom is the older version, and you guys have the SX single which is oil cooled and simpler, but performs similarly. Thanks for watching and commenting 😎
@@sergeantmagi Yes it is an old version but still the same semi digital speedo meter which is same in Suzuki Access 125 scooter. And instead of USD suspension, upside down suspension should be given. Any vehicle enters Indian market after 5-6 years. when that vehicle becomes old in other country.
Absolutely Stunning looks 👌🏻🥇 i do like it... i was looking for the v-strom 250...your video came out..😕 its looks divergent the headlights..so awesome 👌🏻...at one comment i read that is 2 cylinder..Never seen like this before... I congrats you on your choice..Absolutely Stunning... Be safe ...💐👍🏻🇸🇦🌴
Thank you. It's comments like yours that make it all worthwhile 😎
so, herre is a question i have, and this is a road I have travelled alot you say that you cant maintain the 110km, but dont explain why, was it you as the rider not feeling comfortable was it you, feeling that the bike didnt feel like it was comfortable or was there a raise in temps to show it wasnt liking it I mean, I have done that ride a number of times on a gpx250, yes, it had more rpms to play with, was proper water cooled, and 20 years older i ask this, as i have seen other reviews saying that the bike seems fine at 120-130, but there isnt much more to give
I did explain that the engine speed at 110 kmh was excessive. I would have concerns about longevity of the engine if it was constantly running this close to the red line. Maybe it would be fine, but I have mechanical sympathy as a former mechanic and I look after my vehicles. The bike was very capable with 2 up riding 🙂
Would be ok for a 6 foot 2 guy at 15 stone
I'm 4 inches shorter than you, might be a little cramped for you and you won't be setting any lap records, but you might have a lot of fun 😊
Thank u , ive always wanned to know how it performed on tour and long distance, appreciate u
Happy to help! 😎
Thank you alot sir coz me 2 I'm about to get my v strom 250 in RSA
I think you made a great choice 😎
Hi I am from India and the vstrom 250 we get here is very cheaply build I guess to appeal the lower segment market but I love the one the sell in you country
Hi buddy, thanks for taking the time to comment, do you guys get the SX version and did you get the DL prior? They only sold the DL v-strom in Oz from around 2017-2020 so I got a demonstrator here.
@@sergeantmagi Hello, we have only 1 version and honestly it is kind of basic version
Can I use this bike to travel round west Africa?
I can't see why not, it travels around Australia ok 😎
I buyed second hand this week. Fine bike.
Good choice buddy 👍
can it go 120km/h for long distance?
No, not if you want the engine to last. Top speed is an indicated 137kmh. The speedo over reads, so a GPS 120 kmh is the redline rpm - not a great idea to do this long term 😕
I have a Suzuki Inazuma which is based on the same engine I believe and 2 up with panniers (same SHAD ones) and top box and it can hold 115 KMH (GPS) fine, there are occasionally hills which make it dip and full throttle is required (to allow it to slowly creep back up) and I've ridden 380 miles in a day on it holding it at that speed and high RPM (~9000) it can take it fine but obviously a bit more tiring than a bigger machine.
I agree, it will do 9000 rpm and hold it for some time. But with a red line of 10,500 rpm, I would have concerns about the longevity of the motor, if it spent the majority of its life at 9000. I think re-gearing might be an idea if this were the case 😎
@@sergeantmagi I wouldn't worry too much I did a ~760 miles round trip from Scotland to London too I think maybe a small amount of oil might've been used but nothing alarming. I've added around 7k miles since that and it still runs exactly the same as it did new, now at around 22k miles. I just changed the oil yearly or at 3k miles as the manual specifies and checked the valves periodically. I've seen examples with 50k miles and heard users in Turkey with 100k, it's a solid problem free engine. I used to feel it was too short geared originally but it's because they factored in a pillion's weight too and feel it's perfect for all round use, gearing it up if you intend to go 2 up might make things a bit sluggish and the torque might be lacking for highways speeds.
Would you consider the Kawa Versys 300 over this, even if just doing gravel roads mixed with tar?
Yeah, that was my second choice, but it has tubed tyres. The versys has better power and easily does highway speeds. Keen to try one out one day 😎
on my Versys x300 we added the GIVI backrest to our 30L top box, it is an easy add on if you choose/ and gets rid of the "Hinge in back" issue. Have fun.
Thanks for the heads up buddy, ride safe 😃
Hello Sarg. Can i ask you what the name and model of the side panniers are if you dont mind? Thanks so much.
The top box is a GIVI and the panniers are by SHAD SH23 I believe. Sorry for the delay in responding and thanks for the comment 😃
Great video and certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the masses of videos out there. So tempted to get one but my wife says I have to first get life insurance and a significant value... I love the smaller cc bikes as I find them more fun and just going to the local shop a pleasure. Australia is the one country where I think riding bikes are safe.
I prefer to think of riding as "dangerous" and in part I am just a bit paranoid anyway, but it helps to keep a close watch on anyone else on the road. (I ride the RGV part of Texas, and yes, we have some crazy drivers) *then again I learned to ride in Taipei 1990-1993.
I agree completely with the smaller bike thing even though I have a MT10 SP too. It may be safer in Australia but there are wildlife issues kangaroos as well as poor drivers. Good luck with the life insurance and the proposed new bike 😎
@@sergeantmagi I did about 16k km in 6 weeks when I visited Aus - your drivers...compared to mine are like Angels ;). The kangaroos though...reminds me of our donkeys in the rural areas (Africa) though I think the kangaroos are higher risk as donkeys don't suddenly creep up on you. Went to test ride the Suzi today the Kawasaki I had my eye on was sold only had 5k on odo and same price as a new Suzi but all the extras. So suzi it is.
It's a very pleasant little motorcycle, I use it especially for long distance trips to go camping, its low speed on highways has been resolved by the adoption of a 15-tooth front sprocket (E9434.15 ) the maximum speed reached is 152 kilometers per hour, the motorcycle no longer seems to be struggling on the fast lane! do you know that this motorcycle is still the 3rd sale in Japan in 2024?
Thanks for the comment. I've been meaning to upgrade the sprockets and your comment will help me. I didn't know the bike was that popular, but I am not surprised. Thanks again, ride safe brother 😎
Suzuki India has designed their own vstrom, which is classy and soon planning to buy one ..very tempted to by this one 😅
Thank you, good luck with your new bike 😎
if it had LARGER WHEELS, i WOULD BUTY ONE
Liquid Containment fuel bladders are brilliant, had mine for 9 years, do not leak, or have an odour of anykind. abused, used, and still useable
Did the job beautifully 😎
Wow that guitar rift, A bit over the top for 250
Fair comment 😁
If the bike cannot do offroad, then it's not your rights to complain about. Get a better wheels and suspension or something, because this bike is the cheapest in it's 250cc class category. Thanks for the review, i might wanna plan to own it when i have enough money
I love the bike, and can't complain about its off road manners as it's clearly not designed for this. I wish you all the best in finding your bike 😎
Where were these views as seen from the video?
Yes, at the start of the video, the spectacular views are to the viewers' right, my left. A place called Mt Mee near Brisbane. Safe riding and thanks for the comment 😎.
I'm sorry, movie is fine. Background sound, not so much.
Thanks for the feedback, a few people said the same. Just a beginner back then, get it, no loud music. I appreciate your comment, many thanks 😀
when making a vid show the fucking bike
It's "Show the fucking bike, PLEASE." Didn't they teach you anything at school?
Thank you for a genuine review.. ❤ from INDIA..
My pleasure 😊, I work with beautiful Indian people (Nurses) thank you for your kind comment.
Goodluck passing on a hill , not near enough power
Yes, not enough power to overtake up a hill. The video wasn't about that alone, rather it's two-up practicality.
The autocaption says "feast drum" :-)
Gold, isn't it sometimes 😂
615 km to a 12 litre tank is 382 miles giving 31.83 miles per litre or 143 miles per gallon. So yes those figures are clearly not achievable
17 litres friend, I have the DL 250, not the SX. It would be unrealistic on 12, so get the numbers and model right.
On inclines would of been good to hear the motor instead of music.
Yeah, you're right. I was new to video making and a few people said the same... Thanks for watching and commenting though Peter.
The front end looks & lights make it appear to be missing it’s fairing ,like one of them ugly Triumph . I am not into any of this tech ,it’s just more to go wrong & not needed . I prefer normal controls & proper cable operated throttle .all my bikes have traction control ,it’s called the rider using proper acquired skills & riding to the weather & road conditions . These bikes with all this tech ,are the product ,of Motorcycle manufacturers ,allowing computer gamer nerds ,loose in their design departments . All these modern street bikes look like squashed up insects or transformers , they even make my little 250 DE V Strom look pretty in comparison .
I agree with most of your comment, but time and technology waits for no man! It's the same with cars, you can't buy one that you can repair yourself - At least they're not electric yet Brother!!
A great detailed video on this bike, thank you! This will go a long way in my decision making In your previous video where you mentioned the other bikes that were on your short list, it sounds like we have similar needs. I have been leaning more towards the crf300 but i do worry that will be a chore to ride on the freeway. Some people have reported that the front wheel can bounce around but the idea of being able to tackle the harder tracks if need be is a nice peace of mind. I don't go out looking for those kinds of tracks but sometimes you need to go through them to get to a campsite Im not able to test ride anything yet as im on my L's but im considering selling my 4wd for whatever bike i choose as my boot is always empty and a camping trip will cost me $120 in fuel which stops me going out as often as id like to and im certainly not getting 615km to a tank that's for sure ahaha
Good luck with your new bike acquisition Josh, and thank you for your comments. I've heard that the CRF is not too bad on the highway and is far more capable off road than the rest of the bikes I looked at. My V-strom is not great off-road but ok on unsurfaced gravel roads. All the best buddy and safe riding.
Thank you for the review! I'm planning to buy an FZ6 soon. I don't know the number of these sold, but it looks like a very popular machine in Europe.
Thanks MrSparker95, good luck finding your bike and safe travels 😎
Congratulations on a great bike, ride safe.
Thanks Bob, for the comment. Safe travels 😎
Beautiful bike! Have fun & safe rides !
Thanks Adrian , ride safe my friend.
Thoroughly enjoyed your report. Notice you have an aftermarket screen. Make and part no.?
Thanks for your comment. Sorry buddy, the screen and most of the mods were already done when I bought the bike, there's no make / model on the screen. ?Puig, do them for most bikes.
Thanks for responding. Looking forward to updates on rides with and progress of the little but capable Suzy.
Great Vid mate. It's fitting that you went to an Indian Restaurant on an Indian Made lil Suzuki Vstorm 250.
Thanks buddy, Yeah, I didn't know that, I thought this was out of China but you might be right (mine is the DL 250) 😎
u didnt show us how the bike looks
I did my best 😊
A clear, logical & pleasantly delivered review. Thank-you.
Glad you enjoyed it!, thanks for the comment.
If I kept a bike in the living room, I would be sick of the sight if it within a week.. Nice choice
Thank you John, I'm not sure the wife would would go for it either.
FYI: You have the standard seat, Got Cat-delete pipe and third-party oilcooler grid. I think pwr mode 3 do limit the power on the engine.
Thanks for that info buddy, and for commenting.
Nice... thank you... dave AZ... arizona
Thanks Dave, greetings from Oz and safe travels.
👍. Or if u want to keep top box. Just glue some padding top & bottom section.
Thanks for the tip and the comment 🙂
NAP TIME!!!
Sleep well brother
Well done. The engine sound is wonderful. Will you stick to the V Strom for touring? In the frozen northern hemisphere now but only about two months until it's time for two wheels. Planning a tour of (old north) Wales this summer!
Yeah mate love the Wee Strom. Probably will re-gear it taller soon. Thanks for the comment and have a great tour, I miss the old place
which make and model is your windscreen?
the Puig windscreen I presume.
There's no brand name on the screen itself, but it provides great fast-road protection.
The 3000 miles service including the valves is another stumbling block to distance touring I'd think
Hi kevindarkstar, thanks for the comment. You're right, but it's only 2200 miles from Perth to Brisbane here - that's a lot of touring with miles to spare. You could stay overnight somewhere whilst the valves are adjusted! Safe riding Brother and thanks again.
