Love you mwah
i'd love to see your thoughts/review on his concerto. he wasn't constrained by a time limit when he did that one lol. it's one of the best pieces I've ever heard, you'll enjoy it
I really loved the "win of the day" that makes so much sense to log what gets you closer to your goals
It’s super interesting how songs can be broken down. I keep forgetting that there is som e structure to music composition and not just slapped onto paper. Slay!!!
Stravnisky is russian compositor of classical music, western european is kinda lazy to say.
Stravinsky is not Western European he is Russian
Thank you! Best wishes from Argentina
Thank you for the analysis, best wishes from Argentina!
Hi there. Ive been out of school for a decade or three. I would have loved to have you as a teacher. I understand why you didn't analyze "My Shot." It would be a two hour video--minimum.
Thank you for the kind words! Maybe I'll give "My Shot" a try and see if I can keep it under two hours :)
11:53 Not much of a theory guy and I'm horrible at naming intervals but I'm pretty sure Alice in Chains uses (used) a lot of 4ths for their vocal harmonies. Pretty sure they use fifths on the "Would?" verse and for a lot of "Got me wrong" and "Them bones" uses fourth at least in the verses
btw 100% agree with the "original" harmoy on the "bomb locks in" is killer and sounds very powerful
1:44 - 1:51 that's the same joke just extended a bit further I'd argue it is better to think of yourself as smart (if you can actually teach others about certain things)
Hi, thanks for commenting. I agree that it's important to have self-confidence about your own abilities. I think my reaction was a knee-jerk response based on articles that advocate dropping the "smart" label in learning situations. See: www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2015/06/the-s-word/397205/
You know, what you should know is that 99.9(9)% of people who will watch the video have previously seen multiple videos by those other guys You do make a pretty nice analysis of them here I don't see the point though why? See point 1
Hi, thanks for your feedback. You're right and I'm sure people interested in music have seen seen all of these channels before - but, there's always a chance someone finds something new! As for why, I made this video to summarize what I learned watching these channels so people can hear my perspective. I'm interested in hearing if people agree or disagree with my analysis so I can better understand how to make content.
12Tone. Hilariously, one the side-feed, RUclips is offering me several, "Fight me, Adam Neely" uploads from 12Tone. I like Adam and Rick too, though Rick hasn't done a good "What makes this song great ?" for a while.
Yeah, I like 12Tone and appreciate that he disagrees with Neely because that can face some tough criticism. I think everyone should be challenged though, including my analysis videos. Rick is fun to watch but his analysis videos just aren't for me! I think his interviews tend towards excellent though
I really enjoyed Howard’s ideas on why certain things are the way they are in the song musically. I also liked hearing your ideas! I hope you end up watching the Dos orugitas video or a few of the Hamilton ones he did
Yes, I watched the Dos Orugitas video and it was incredible. I even recommend his Bruno video to everyone I can because it's really well done - I just disagree with his madrigal idea
I subbed to all of them and yeah, they all have their niche. They are best on their own! But Sideways needs to upload again
That's great, thanks for subbing to everyone! I agree, Sideways has awesome videos and we could use more of them :)
@@zacharywarrenmusic True! Also, can you do some Charlie Puth content? Especially with his later works which are very poppy and “too much for pop” at the same time?
Yeah of course, that sounds fun. Do you have a song or album suggestion?
Great video! Would love to hear your take on some of the classic Disney musicals as well to see how they compare or contrast to newer Disney musicals like this.
Great idea! That sounds like a fun project, I'll definitely put it on my list
Can you play this piece make a cover of it
Hi Shravan, thank you for your comment! Covers are a little legally complicated so I'm more focused on analysis. I can do a deeper dive into his composition though, including showing some pitch and rhythm
What’s the logic behind F being major instead of minor if the song is in the key of Eb Major? How do I know which chords can change quality and still sound good?
Hi Pedro, thank you for your question! You're right that we expect F minor in the key of Eb major. What makes F major work in this progression is its relation to Bb - a perfect 4th (or 5th, depending on how you look at it) away. So the opening progression moves by perfect 4ths and keeps the major quality for each chord. This pattern is what makes the F major chord sound like it "belongs." Note: the pattern breaks when we get Ab major, because that is not a perfect fourth away from F major. Also, F major is the dominant (V) chord of Bb major, which is another reason why it "sounds good" following the Bb major chord. The general answer to your question is you can play any chord in any quality and order, as long as you like the sound. That's not incredibly helpful, so I'll follow up with some theory knowledge to inform chord progression choices. If we take this progression as an example (Eb-Bb-F-Ab), there's a pattern of perfect fourths with Ab breaking the pattern. So, you could do something similar but with major 3rds (Eb-G-Bb-Fm -> Fm breaks the pattern). You could also extract the "secondary dominant" idea, which is what we traditionally call F major in relation to Bb. F major not the dominant of Eb, it is the dominant of a "secondary key" - Bb ergo a secondary dominant. There's a secondary dominant for every note (except scale degree 7) in the Eb scale, so play around with those. For the most traditional-sounding progressions, play the secondary dominant first then the chord it "belongs to" - such as Eb-G-Cm-Bb. The G "belongs to" C minor as a secondary dominant (the V of Cm). Once you have that sound figured out, you can switch it like Coldplay does in this song and play the secondary dominant after the key it "belongs to" -> Eb-Cm-G-Bb. I recommend playing these different progressions to hear how they sound. Chord progressions are not copyrightable because there are limited permutations, so if you like one of the progressions I gave as an example please feel free to use it! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Never stop sharing, I'll always be watching! Do not miss out = P r o m o S M!
I’d add that the second half of the “bridge” is so powerful because the F from the verse finally gets harmonic support in the high register (its “apotheosis,” if you will.)
Great observation! I really appreciate how that F is so satisfying even though it's not the highest note in the piece
Thanks for reviewing Twoset. I also like your insights too~ I have to agree that sometimes the way they title their vids may be misleading to non-regular viewers. One of the few quirks I like about them 😂 They are a comedic duo but they're also very talented when it comes to their art. They love classical music and one of the RUclipsrs out there who influences a lot of their viewers that classical music can also be fun. I want to tell you more about them but I think it would help if you watch more of their videos. Their last statement was actually a hint for another video, because they did create a Squid Game Music Version. Hope you watch it and review it too.
Hi Brenda, thank you for your comment! I agree that they are very talented and their enthusiasm for classical music is infectious. I think their video is overall successful, but just different from my approach (which isn't a bad thing!) I haven't watched a lot of their videos, but I'll be sure to check out that one you mentioned :)
Thanks for your video - Loved it. Never thought of the E being for the name Elise!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching!

Nice job in analyzing this piece. - Could you do one of these for Fur Elise by Beethoven?
