The Brat reaction was like a gay bat signal and now we're all here to recommend our favorite under-the-radar female pop acts. This is a well that runs pretty deep, so as long as you're on board it's gonna keep coming, LOL Anyways, since you were asking about it, Rina is half Japanese and have English and grew up in London. She got a bit of attention for her coming out single Cherry, as well as her debut EP RINA, which is also incredible and I highly recommend it--not as versatile sonically, but more lyrically cohesive. Her being pansexual is really big in her lyrics in general, as the inspiration for both Love Me For Me and Chosen Family.

Dude, Rina is 🔥. Super underrated. Apart from making great music, she's a fantastic actress too. She plays a big role in John Wick: Chapter 4. She's a marital artist in that film.

so about the closing track (snakeskin) its my fav song in the album, for a multitude of reasons: 1. it sampled the final fantasy victory fanfare music when she sang "p-p-p-pretend despair" but in minor key. she also sampled beethoven's pathetique which her mother played in the outro 2. the concept of snakeskin. its basically rina shedding her trauma and making it into art for people to enjoy, like snakeskin turned into a designer bag. basically this whole album is her snakeskin, pretty cool of her. 3. the way shes experimenting with different genres in one song. like in XS, it goes from some acoustic guitar, to a bit of nu metal, and to a slutty pussycats doll song. WILD! AND ALSO THE PRODUCTION? so many layers to it, its so fun dude. im really glad you enjoyed this album, bc everyone should at least give it a try

I love Rina and especially what she represents. Hope she can continue to release her own music soon.

Fun little tidbits about this album to give you even greater appreciation for Caroline Polachek - I’ve listened so many times, probably my favorite album of all time. -the bagpipes in Blood and Butter are the same melody as Grimes’ verse in Fly to You (“how I remember, how I forget….” -the intro melody from Pretty In Possible (da-da-da-da-da) is the same melody as the bridge in Smoke (“and the fallout doesn’t faze me, take a bullet for my baby”) -the whistle from Bunny is a rider is the same whistle near the end of I Believe -the same church bells in the background of Fly to You and Billions These are just a few of many!! There are tons more on the deluxe version and in the music videos (tons of little visual continuities present throughout the videos for this album). Caroline is a genius and SUCH a thoughtful, detail-oriented artist. Thank you for appreciating her artistry!!!

Pop2 is the first Charli album I listened to back in 2017 so it’s so cool watching these newfound Charli fans reacting to her in 2024 and finally giving her flowers for how ahead of her time she fucking was. Charli is a VISIONARY!! So cool to see her finally get the recognition she so well deserves 🥹
