Project Hercules Chopper Build
Добавлен 2 авг 2012
Random vids on making a chopper! First the engine, made from a few bits left over from a Bristol Hercules aircraft engine.
Next up the gearbox, with no actual gears but two speeds. Intrigued? Best get watching then!
Plus a few bonus CNC conversion threads...

Cats Eyes and Clevises
Progress on the gear selector mechanism by the shed fairies, while I review the damage from the recent weather change. Thinking about the rear lights in parallel, starting to get my mojo back. 💪

Winter is coming - oil up your junk!

Handy tip for anyone living in the UK as the weather turns milder this weekend. It reeks havoc with machines in unheated workshops. Get them oiled up ASAP! #engineering #condensation

Detent-shun!
Просмотров 90221 день назад
Great progress on the gear detent mechanism, which when combined with a gate on the hand lever should make for a very positive gear change. A few minor jobs remain but we're very close to calling it finished 💪 #engineering #gearbox #gear #chopper
Pheasant Pluckers & a Gearbox.
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.21 день назад
A weekend away at the Pheasant Plucker rally didn't stop work on the gearbox. It's looking good with the detent next on the list. Good news is that both gears select well and it's not too fiddly to assemble. Plenty too do still, so stay tuned.! #chopperlife #engineering #gearbox #rally

Gear Selector Shafts Done 💪
Просмотров 948Месяц назад
All of the drillings have been completed for the gear selector shafts. They've gone in quite well and the dogs engage smoothly. Still a bit of work to do getting it all into the casing, especially when you can't see what's going on! But we're nearly there. A few extra machining operations to go after that. #engineering #chopperlife #gearbox
Gear selector shaft 1 drilled
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Месяц назад
First pair of holes drilled for the gear selector shaft. Everything seems to line up nicely so it's threading and tapping a shaft of the right diameter next. Small step but it's important not to rush, everything must line up or the box will be horrible to use! #chopperlife #engineering #gearbox
Move your hand and show us the box!

Initial work starting on the gear box selector forks. Only 6 holes to drill and one hole to tap, but the locations are critical so it needs some care 🫣 #chopperlife #gearbox #engineering
Midweek Special - Carbs Anyone?

Soooo many comments on the carburettor in previous videos! I've tried to answer them all, but I figured it was worth an entire special to answer the questions. #chopperlife #engineering #carburettor
Out with the box.

Finally got some quality time alone in the garage, without having to swim to get to the bench. We are back 💪 Gearbox out and tank off, both to be worked on. It's great to have done another little job ready for the next steps. #chopperlife #engineering #gearbox
Something for the weekend?

Saturday morning and lots to do, but a busy weekend ahead. I wonder if any progress will have been made by Sunday night?? Hmm....
A proper tool box!
Просмотров 9572 месяца назад
Great addition to the garage next to the WARCO lathe. A lovely little toolbox my dad's given me. Over the next few weeks I'll work out what needs to fit where, so the WARCO becomes even more useful. #chopperlife #engineering #tool
Finished and fitted. Sprocket spacers. 💪

Glad this job is finished as it's not particularly exciting, and now I've checked the chains and it's all looking good. Happy with that, so it's onto the next job. #chopperlife #oldschoolchopper #engineering
Roadtrip for a Screw

You're got to love a road trip, and it's hard to beat one to fetch a new bike. But in this case we did as we stopped off along the way to collect some donated parts. 💪 #chopperlife #engineering #cnc

Holy crap , do you have a machine shop to lust after 😃 !
Awesome! Love seeing the new progress!! Always fun to see any new news from your garage !!
what rules and regulations?? just buy a logbook for a 125 and tell ya insurance about the mods
Looks like you need heat in the garage and keep the moisture under control
@@rottweiler9535 given the lack of insulation and the 1" gap around the doors, I don't have budget for that!
Great presentation!
And when you to late Scotch Bride or anything like that with WD40 will do the job.
haha everything in the shed is covered in condensation, i have just been painting everything in engine oil
Great advice
Haha love it
Excellent presenter.
I found silicone oil sprays quite effectivd. I buy up the lot when Lidl and Aldi have them on offer. I do get quite a few scowls when I'm pushing my trolley out, from people with the same idea heading into the shop.
Where did you get to with this coolant project? I'm in the same boat and scratching my head about filtering.
I managed to get the coolant to flow nicely, with a pipe fitted to the drain spout. However since then I've hardly used it and one of the corks I used has dried out. I'll do a video update on the next couple of weeks (probably during the Xmas break) and drop it on the channel. Good luck with yours!
I have the same controller at 1:07 What do you use yours for?
@@victorsteerup4582 aren't they great? I use mine as a mouse/keyboard for the Raspberry pi that runs the Bridgeport CNC. The only problem is.... I keep dropping it 😁
Well done young lady. Well done.
Hi Mark, could you tell me what size and pitch your new ball lead screws are. Im wanting to fit these to my machine. All the best
@@intheshed77a hello. I don't actually know as they were a free gift! I'll see if I can measure them, or better still Wayne who donated then might see this comment and tell us both! (crozwayne). The nuts will be a challenge to fit into the yokes, so I wouldn't rush off and buy the exact same screws/nuts that I have. Also the screws might be a little short and I'll lose a tiny bit of travel. When I'm done I'll post all of the details in a video, but that will be some time yet. If you're really keen I'd see what others are doing, or what you get with some of the CNC kits. Good luck with it all!
Get well soon 'dad' but no worries about us wiewers as the apprentice/substitute did very well indeed 👍
well done and good advice young lady, perhaps a few more words of advice from yourself in the future? what with winter approaching.
Well presented young lady 😁👍
Happy birthday Mr Bob, sir. The end is tantalisingly close now!
Coming along now Mark!
I mean who makes a gearbox?! Fantastic work.
Happy birthday Have a brilliant day bob
Nice work and happy birthday mr bob
Champagne at the ready: "I name this bike Mr Bob..."
Happy birthday Mr Bob.
Happy Birthday Mr Bob.🍻🎂
Is the clutch high drolic as so soffen the scwees more easily?
@@kelvingriffith9236 no. I'm planning to run a cable clutch. The clutch is a diaphragm spring type, so I think it should be ok.
Very nice work sir
Happy Birthday Bob. Nice work.
Happy 90th birthday Bob.
Looks amazing can't wait to see it all together and moving
Great work and problem solving!
as someone who did Tech Drawing to CSE level at school, those drawings are a work of art.
Will you need oil seals on the shafts as well? I've never seen a gear box like it👍
@@firestorm755 I don't think so, but you're the second person to ask now. I'll let you know when it's on the road. 😁
Sounds like a Winchester rifle.
Hopefully not: they go BANG!
Only when they're supposed to. 😃
@@k1ckyscotland988 interesting. I might make the great selector a ruffle bolt..🤔
I used a Nissan micra magnetic sump plug on my Triumph gearbox,re tapped..super cheap,available online 12mm thread..Ideal..Ian.👍
@@ianhorabin9763 if I have to buy one I'll bear that in mind. I'm sure I've got one lying around.... Somewhere! 😁
Oil seals on the rods?
@@ekspatriat not on the rods, just the bearings. There won't be a lot of oil in the box and it'll be thick oil. I doubt it'll be an issue.
Fantastic👍
God help humanity when all the Bobs have gone to the big tool room in the sky
A symphony in motion. Imagine dreaming that up. Hard to imagine how stupid the bloke who did that thought everyone else was.
What a smart idea!
Thanks for the update, looking forward for more videos.
Lovely piece of engineering ❤
I'm not the pheasant plucker, I'm the pheasant plucers son 😊
@@tonic8945 😁😁I thought it was mate? Heard both versions. 😁
its beautiful! I would have been delighted to have made such a thing!
Hi Mark, Wayne here, originally the ball screw nuts were fitted into a fabricated "dog bone", maybe make a new one for the nuts? I think I binned the original, I will keep my eye out if it is lingering around here somewhere! keep up the good work
@@crozwayne awesome, thanks Wayne. I agree that making a new dog bone is probably the best way forward. 💪
Nice project.
There's always a "side project" to spice things up!
