Excellent progress for 6 months. How are you finding optimisation?
Thank you! Optimisation is easier as I learn more. Some things are more obvious, like code calculations. Some are harder to predict, like making slimes transparent turns the CPU into a volcano 🔥
@@BunyipHutch I wonder what causes the issues when it comes to transparency, I've got a few transparent objects in my game but they don't seem to cause any issues. I think the main thing I've needed to optimise are the enemies, especially having enemies already placed when the level loads as opposed to having them spawn in as needed. I also limited how often enemies detect where the player is, as having them recalculate the route to the player every single frame is a bit overkill and not really necessary.
Wow nice progress! Every time I start a new game project I quit after two weeks 😔
Thanks for following the process, it is always great to hear from you 🌟 New projects are always exciting too, I write new ideas down so I don't distract myself from the main project but the list is loooooong 😂
@@BunyipHutch yeah it’s hard to not come up with a million new ideas
this seems awesome! I've been working with unreal for a while now, and I can see how the stuff you did matched some of the stuff I did for development.
Thanks, I am super proud of it but will work on it more! ✨ Are you also developing a game now?
@@BunyipHutch yea, atleast I was. I was very inexperienced 6 months ago with ue5, but my brother gave me a game idea to get back into game development, and this month I finished the first level, but I'm done with the project just because I don't have the motivation to continue on my brothers idea, so now I'm going to start on my dream game =)
It is so much easier to motivate yourself if its an idea you are really personally passionate about 🥳
you have done a good job so far :) some feedback i would suggest copying a camera system like zelda botw your camera feels off to me.
Definitely agree! The camera and sky box both need to be made, otherwise it has that default Unreal Engine feel to the scene 💭
😂
17 like hello everything is fine. Do you know someone who makes characters or anything else for Unreal Engine because I need it for my project, a game I would make but I don't have time. If you know tell me I'll pay the price $
Good to see you back again
Never left, been learning Blueprints and building slime mechanics a lot though 🐌 How is your game dev?
@@BunyipHutch havent had any good time for it sadly
Cool
Thank you ✨
GIVE ME THE GAME NAME FOR PERSONAL REASON
I APPRECIATE THE ENTHUSIASM 😆 I am making the game now, do not have a name yet. You may like the other bosses I am making.
The amount of knowledge and practical information and steps you shared between two pieces of software is incredible. Just the type of tutorial I was looking for! ✌
Happy it helps you in your projects! 🥳
Damn looks good so far its gonna be a good game when you're done with all the 3D models
Thanks! Really enjoying the 3D modelling, probably need to spend more time coding 🤭
@@BunyipHutch yea lol
AND MY AXE
It looks so cool!
Thanks! 😃
First one has rugged charm. Second one looks like it belongs in fortnite
Definitely sounds like I need to remake the first version 😂
the slime's hecking adorable aa a new slime rancher competitor approaches
Thanks 😃 I am also remaking it for the 10th time to be even cuter!!!
from your previous vid is it using just blendshapes or is it also changing textures?
It is cycling through the eyes like the flip book in Unreal Engine 5 😃
Good job. It went from Common to Rare
I gotta work on my Epic and Legendary next 😃
The second one is the most generic looking things I have seen today
I'll take it, average means halfway there ✨
NO that old axe is beautiful. Its a completely different artstyle so fair, but still!
Old but gold, I still like it as well 😊
I lile the new one more so much more fun to look at ❤❤ its all subjective though both look great !
Thanks, I do like the gems and colors ❤
Not gonna lie, the first one looks like an actual axe, the second one looks like a toy battle axe. Bit this os the onli video I've seen from your channel so maybe everything els in your game also has thos toy look to it
Going for a happy color scheme with slimes 🫠
you can make the eyes 2d elements but in 3d (made out of polygons) and then add facial expressions using visemes (blendshapes) to make it more cartoony and expressive
Yes!!! That is exactly what I did on my other short with the purple slime -> 2D on 3D 😃 cool method
@@BunyipHutch oh thank you, didn't watch that one yet cause its been in my reels xD I'm sure to follow your game now, i like how the artstyle gets more defined with each upload
I like the old more
+1 to ol' naturel, thanks!
Overcommit. You talked a lot about how you will work, but gave no focus on an iterative workflow with user feedback. I am a software developer. You NEED an iterative workflow that involves user feedback. (This means play testing and RUclips comments. Take it seriously.)
Remake the entire game in the style of the first axe. Kinda grim, a little rough. That style tends to be more successful imo. Plus, clearly people like it. When developing, get user feedback. Don’t overcommit. Be willing to send out feelers and pull back from unwanted directions.
I am still learning and testing different styles, thanks for appreciating the rugged rough danger stick ~
No offense, you did great job on both axes but I'm personally tired of the kind of weird simplistic artstyle, the first one looks quite realistic and for me more pleasing to the eye. The second one is clean and good looking too, well made, but I'm not a fan of that artstyle. Good job though!
Maybe it will look better in context of the game 😊 thanks for feedback still, helps me gauge the audience
Nice axe yea sry i havent released a vid yet i took the hard decision to focus on school so yea;-; kinda sad but yk thats life although i am learning italian rn
Haha, school comes first!
@@BunyipHutch yea wish i could be focusing on coding but i think in maybe 2 years i will have a real chance if my mind stil is set on it
Cat.. axe.
Meow ~
The first one was better
I respect that, I do like it as well 😊
You could add some detail and wear and tear to the new axe as well! 😊 beautiful 3D model, nice work
I will do that next, learning more sculpting bits before I scratch it up 😃
I reecommend using custom materials from sites like polyhaven, ambientcg, textureshare imo the old axe would look insane with good materials
Idk man i liked the old one better
It is getting more love than expected, so thanks!
Boo put it back
Aw, but I like both ;_;
Lightning!!!
Zap zap ⚡️
@@BunyipHutch Fire burns. Lighting is power.
no offense, but the first one looked infinitely better than the second, the remake looks like a toy ;-;
Thanks! I hope to repurpose it one day 😊 I am trying different styles
Lightning axe, fire is overrated.
Thor would approve 🔨
the first one looks like a lumber axe and the second one looks like a battle axe. axes that cut lumber have very thick blades. so the blade doesnt shatter everytime it hits a log. battle axes have a thinner blade.
A battle axe to fight nature itself 😂
@@BunyipHutch the second ones colors is pretty good so what you should do to make it perfect is combine them. the blade of the first and the color handle of the second
Fire😊
Toasty and with fire sparks?
Ngl I kinda like the rugged, rough charm of the first. It feels like a starting axe that's just waiting to be upgraded
Yeah, it is one step above tying a piece of ore to a stick but it has its charm for sure 😁
Tbh rusty one actually usable for wood chopping, not a New one Who look too cartoony and double bladed for no reason
yea, your starting out a similar way that I started! I'm working on a small game to get all of the concepts of unreal down, then I'll make my massive dream game. simple.
Yes! It helps build the skills in the practical way, learning and applying knowledge practically helps understand and memorize. Can'[t wait to start my dream game but need to learn a lot first with this one.
I started learning blender and even though I started to like it, I hated a lot of things regarding UV unwraps, normal maps, all different settings you have to tweak just to have my mesh ready, and even moving it to a game engine felt like a nightmare :( you make it look so easy, any channel or tutorials that you recommend ??? I know the basics to move around blender and create easy stuff, it's just the material part that's bringing me down :c I subbed and GL in your journey.
Glad it was helpful for your project! I am also struggling to find a comprehensive tutorial as it is more advanced and has less channels dedicated to it. I google topic by topic and stitch it together: UV unwrapping basics, UV unwrapping for UE, UV unwrapping procedural materials, baking maps, etc. until I have an understanding of it for my project. Grant Abbitt has some basics, but still gotta research the gaps. Would love to make a tutorial series about it, but tutorials get close to no recognition and take days to put together and edit 😵
Very cute are you gonna add that to your game?
Yess, currently working on animations, eye blinks, ear wiggles, etc. which will all be part of different slimes...
@@BunyipHutch damn alr you're rlly good at being a gamedev unlike me
Post devlog 😁
@@BunyipHutch should i orr sry im brain dead rn
Cute !
Looking forward to seeing more of your devlogs! Keep it going, you got a new subscriber! I also started my own journey recently, but struggling to keep motivation with my current job. How did you manage to go full time learning financially?
Thank you for support, chipping away at it daily! In terms of motivation, I would swap it for discipline - 30 min a day actually doing game dev will make you sky rocket in skills, and I mean doing because watching tutorials feels rewarding but it all gets lost if you don't apply it... been there, done that and it was not productive. In terms of financials, terrible 😁 would not recommend it at all
It is insanely cute (Also idk why but i saw the error when releasing it for like 2 minutes)
Thanks, the slimes are getting better and now animated for Devlog 1. How is your project going?
@@BunyipHutch well i am currently sick with the flu thats why its taking a while but otherwise its going great
Sweet!
Thanks for watching! 😊
hello gamerz
Hello hello 😊
Looking forward to what you'll make! Good Luck!!! 😀
Thanks, already posting some shorts about it 😊 on my channel
I work for a company, but sometimes when I feel like it, I create my own game. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to do it alone, or I lack motivation, or something( It would be nice to find like-minded people and develop like that. If you want, I can help a little bit
I gotta learn everything myself first 😃 Even if I ever use other 3D assets, it is good to know the whole workflow from concept to in-game asset. Music is tough though!
Perfectly exsplains me when im coding
Functional? No. Did I do my best? Also no... 😃
@@BunyipHutch exactly me
Good Luck sweet voice!
Thanks 😂
