My late brother's favourite song .Rip EK
Zimbabwean Rasta man’s chant 🖤🖤🖤
What is it the women are singing in response to Mukanya? It sounds like "Dear John, ndaneta" - what is the chiShona?
It's a mourning song. The lead vocal is a person mourning the loss of their loved ones and rhetorically asking "where is everyone? The response vocal from the ladies is echoing by saying "I now live alone/am lonely). Ndiudzeiwo kwakaenda vamwe (Tell me where everyone is) Ndoita mugara ndega (Am now left alone) Hope this helps
@@tapfumaneyimhene6122 Thank, now I hear it!. Have always loved this song!

Here is a translation of the lyrics: Praise the King Let him be praised Praise the King Let him be praised Ho iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children Give thanks to the King Let us give him thanks Give thanks to the King Let us give him thanks Hoi iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children The heathens!...... The heathens belong with Satan, oh King The heathens belong with Satan, oh King Hoi iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children The heathens belong with Satan, oh King The heathens will go to hell , oh King Hoi iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children Punish them King!...... Punish them King! Those who do not want to unite, oh Hoi iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children Those wars King! Those wars must come to an end in Africa Those wars King! Those wars must come to an end in Africa Hoi iye rere King Be glorified Lord Your name Lord is great We are your children
Found in my local vinyl shop, great tune !
The year was around 2005 and I had given a lift to 4 passengers from Nyanga to Marondera on a cool and breezy Nyanga morning. I was playing this song on my car radio during the cassettes era. Around Julisdale I started playing this song and repeated it twice expecting that the passengers would complain. When i stole a glance via the internal rear view mirror everyone of them were nodding their heads in enjoyment and accompaniment to the free flowing Mukanya voice and Blacks Unlimited melodious/tight rhythms. We played the same song up until we reached Rusape. At Rusape one of the passengers got out and pretended to go to the toilet but bought drinks (FANTA) for everyone in the car. BUT he bought 2 drinks for me and humbly said thank you driver. Point of correction dear passenger : thank you Mukanya. But above and beyond all this thanks be to GOD the giver of life.
Mukanya’s music are gems on a daily basis, Zimbabwe’s greatest social commentator on a different level from all of them, he is not only Zimbabwe’s greatest, he is the custodian of Zimbabwe’s music culture, he is a living legend with no limit, long live Mukanya, Hurricane Hugo, Mr Music, once you go the Mukanya root, there is no going back as there is nowhere else, the best wine is stored in deep underground cellars.
😢
