    Thank you very much! This is very helpful! What wheels would you recommend for a beginner who eventually wants to be able to spin chunky art yarn to use in my tapestries?

    • @FibreFlowJo
      @FibreFlowJo 2 дня назад

      I have limited experience with thick art yarn but I have tried on the Lendrum. You can get a jumbo flyer attachment which has a large orifice, and will allow for chunky art yarns. Best of luck making that beautiful yarn!

    So glad I found you/this. Your intro video is wonderful & the atmosphere you create is lovely. I begin my gentle mornings with a wonderful cup of pour over as well & wander to my Lendrum. A question...I can't locate my 'care' pamphlet that came with the wheel & I'd like to oil it & clean the wood. Can you tell us where to oil & best way to clean it? I care for things well & am lost trying to find that paper...recent remodeling made a mess of some things at home. Thank you so much. Barb

    I''m very impressed with this video. About 30 years ago, we raised sheep for a few years, and I have a bag of carded roving that I've carted around with me ever since.I bought a Lendrum double treadle about 20 years ago....and then life got in the way! Am semi-retired now and have been trying to figure out what to do. This is the most helpful video I've found. I can be a bit impatient, want to master whatever I'm doing NOW, and appreciate her encouragement to scrap the urgency, practice good posture, practice treadling...

    And I like the process from the very beginning. From raw fleece to washing, drying in the sun, cleaning from VM, hand carding or combing, spinning, plying, making skein, washing skeins, fixing in steam, drying skeins, making the ball with nostepinne and then crocheting or knitting or weaving your own clothing :-) So satisfying :-))))) And when you add having sheep and shearing them with handblade, then it is really slow fashion.

    For me, knitting and crocheting have always been very tactile. If I don’t like how a yarn feels between my fingers while I’m working with it, I don’t finish my project. If the yarn snags and it’s not knitting or crocheting smoothly, I get frustrated. Spinning my own yarn isn’t just cost effective. I have control of the kind of yarn I end up with. I also have less odds and ends of yarn left because I tend to spin for specific projects. When I have left over fibre it goes into a hew spin for a new project. 😊

      @FibreFlowJo 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for sharing, this is so true! Some projects can take so many hours that the tactile experience while making it is just as important as the finished garment ☺️

      @@FibreFlowJo - I didn’t mention it in my initial comment, but I tend to spin fiercely fine because I mainly knit (and crochet) lace, with the odd sweater thrown in (lace, cablework or Japanese stitches from Hitomi Shida’s books). That prompts me to spin 30-40 wpi for a 2-ply on average, more for a sweater. Turns me into a bit of a picky person where it comes to fibre. The finer you go, the less you enjoy spinning or knitting if it doesn’t feel nice. Fortunately it also means I spend a lot of time on my projects, which means less shopping… which isn’t a bad thing for my wallet! 🤣 I recently heard a content creator use the word “scarfable” for soft fibre or yarn. Soft enough to wear against the sensitive skin of your throat. I instantly loved the term!

    Very well done: demo was simple with great Camara angles, .no dog or cat distractions, good background scene & voice was calming. As a beginner my back always hurts when done after practicing spinning, thanks for posture lesson & drafting speeds to tension to consider .I over-twist a lot.. Now I know I'll get better at it. Thanks from Orlando, FL,

      It was a bit of a learning curve. I made many mistakes along the way. Check out my beginner instructional video on my channel :) I also would recommend taking some classes in person if they are available in your area. Maybe someone could have a look at your wheel to make sure everything is set up optimally for a beginner.

    Hello Joe, You are a wonderful teacher. I have watched so many videos and many are helpful but sort of only did a quick pass with regard to importance of treading. Thinking a lot about my accidents, tangles, bag full of mistakes, it came to me that I needed instruction and practice with treadling. Your explanation and demonstration are kind and clear. I am thankful and look forward to learning more from you. God bless the work of your hands

      That is great to hear! I hope you're enjoying the process. I purchased mine from The Fibre Garden in Ontario. I just spoke to someone at the shop yesterday coincidentally and they said the Lendrum DTs are waitlisted right now. They can be hard to come by but I'm so happy with mine. You can check out lendrum.ca to see where else Lendrums might be sold in Canada and the US. Best of luck and happy spinning!
