811 Chicago Utility Locating
США
Добавлен 30 сен 2018
811 is the national call-before-you-dig phone number. Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 or go to their state 811 center's website before digging to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you don't unintentionally dig into an underground utility line.

When using a ring clamp or making a makeshift ring clamp like you did, milliamps are almost always going to be really low. You're more paying attention to your depth and making sure you're peak and null match.
You're right, I like to check all the gauges to make sure I'm 100% on my cable. Thanks for the feedback!
Thank god he’s back😂
Thanks!
Welcome back
Thank you!
You can also use your red lead and dump it in the water because it’s a conductor and with that you will have a great miliamp
Welcome sir
lol, thanks!
Welcome back sir
lol, thanks!
Some are 18" some are 23" meanwhile us in Canada 40"
I came to the conclusion today that I haven't been recommended a video from you in a while so I searched through my subscriptions and it's been 3 months since an upload what's going on in Chicago
I'll be back soon. Thanks!
Hello, CAL-0 indicates that the locator does not have a current calibration, right? Are you wondering if there's anything that can be done to prevent this message from being displayed when you start the locator? It's best to calibrate it, I know? But paying for calibration every year is too much. Older models don't have this problem, they don't display this message.
Yes, CAL-0 on a Radiodetection locator indicates that the locator does not have a current calibration. Reach out to Radiodetection’s customer support or technical support to see if there is away to turn it off.
Anymore videos on the way?
Soon
Induction? Dropped the transmitter down the route?
Yes!
What do I do if I only have a hot and a neutral and no grounds in the street lights? What do I plug onto?
You'll need to find the Home Run box (junction box) and trace it back to that street light pole.
@@811chicago5 should I connect to the hot wire or the neutral?
Thanks for the videos we just got one of those locators and I’m trying to teach my self how to use it because nobody wants to get involved with ot
Do you have any question how to use the RD?
@@811chicago5 not yet I’ve been watching your videos very helpful
Power is over 3 Don’t null that dude
What?!?! A mile Kicking what Full???
Don’t paint up mulch again Come on
That's excellent you're not painting the mulch.
Regarding the point at 12:15 where you've got your peak and null not in the same spot. The correct procedure* is: 1. Measure the distance between the peak and null, and then divide that distance by 2. In your case, it looks to be about 8" apart, so the number you need is 4". 2. Draw a straight line from the null to the peak, and then continue in that same direction by an extra 4" beyond the peak (so you should now be 12" away from the null point). That is where the target utility should be. Yes, the point you marked halfway between the peak and null might be within your reported margin of error in this case, but it's not really good practice, because if there were additional buried conductive utilities nearby, the distortion can be made worse, and the responses from peak and null, and the location of the actual utility can be further apart (much more than the difference shown in this video example). *as per the Radiodetection user manual and as per page 58 of 'The ABC and XYZ of Locating Buried Pipes and Cables', also by Radiodetection. Hope this helps. :-)
I started working for a new company and they asked me what locator I wanted, ether vivax or rd. I choose vivax because the sonde mode is easier to use. can you make a video on how to use sonde mode on rd, to prove me wrong.
I've only been a locator for 10 months and can already say ATT is a nightmare every time it comes up on one of my tickets. Ugggh!
I've only been a locator for 10 months and can already say ATT is a nightmare every time it comes up on one of my tickets. Ugggh!
10 to 25,000 dollars
Over $45k
Been locating nearly 12years, and have never heard this. I am always willing to try new things.
One of the viewers mentioned that I was running too much wattage and that I was "bleeding" everywhere, so he challenged me to try just one watt. That's what I did in this video, lol
We would have DTL it and had gas company look at it.
I switched companies.I do gas and electric now.wish people realized pipes don't turn like cables lol.
This guy master locator.
I gave all my guys locks I've put my transmitter in the manhole before
What company do you work for?
Thanks brother
What happened with this ticket? How did you locate those electric duct banks, and what access points did you hook up to? What access points do electric lines coming from substations go to?
This is one of the more challenging locates with these transmission lines. There are no hookup spots, you can't access the substation or ground out, and you have to maintain an 18-foot distance from the conductors and transmission towers while they're energized. It required significant time and personnel to get this locate done accurately.
Can u do a video of you looking at your prints. Gas, coppers, fiber
Dude just cut the hair lol you look good in the front , party in the back aint working no more😅
Haha, thanks for the feedback! I guess it’s time to rethink the party in the back strategy. 😂
Are you playing Pitfall?
I’m coming back home to Chicago in a week. Wondering if I could get some insight from you.
Yep what's up?
@@811chicago5 can I tag along along one day? Want to see how you operate while locating. You know the trade very well.
I saw faded hard marks at the curb at magnolia
@joeym5040 That's what happens when you try to power mode a utility. You marked the wrong utility.
The beast at it again 💪🏾
Lots of times you can pick it up with higher frequencies such as 83k or 200k. If the meter is inside but the vent is outside that’s what I do, as long as the main valve shut off is not an insulated valve it will pass through. Most of the issues with gas are with shut offs being insulated or if they installed a “break-away” fitting which is insulated at the foundation. I work for the gas company, I’m going to ask the meter dept if the regulators are actually insulated themselves or if it’s the fitting threaded beneath it. Regardless though insulators SUCK! In my opinion gas is one of the most difficult utilities to locate. Even tracer wire has its difficulties. Great videos btw, I love the troubleshooting aspect of being a locator. Learn something new everyday
Thanks a lot for your comment. When using higher frequencies, there is a tendency to bleed onto other utilities rather than the one you're trying to locate. This is where the younger locators are getting damages with these higher frequencies. In 2000, when a gas service was hit off the vent, gas company representatives told me that the regulator had an insulator, making it impossible to locate off the vent. Once again, thank you very much.
@@811chicago5 that's good to know about the regulator being the insulator. I wish more of my day was direct connect marking out, a large part of my territory has low pressure cast iron mains and steel services (with no curb boxes) with inside meters. marking indirect is a totally different day of work compared to direct connecting to tracer wire or hooking up to electric etc. do you "drop the box" much where you do locating?
@@4doorxj Here in the suburbs, everything is in the open, so dropping the box isn't necessary. It would have been nice to have curb valves, as they would have made your job a lot easier to mark out the service and provide an idea of the gas main's location.
@@811chicago5 good record keeping and quality install work plays such a big part in locating gas lines. Especially with poly gas pipe, the tracer wire connections at the mains are vital.
@@4doorxj I remember when a gas company began using PE gas services and mains. Their twist-on wire connectors for linking services to the main were poorly designed. They used connectors without the metal piece inside, leaving just a plastic connection. This made it impossible to locate that specific main from any services in the area. lol
ive been using my rd8100 for almost 5 years now and love it. I only use it on guidance mode, makes locating nice and easy. auto adjusts the gain for you as you walk away/closer and turns on all the antennas to locate the utility. I enjoy my rd way more then my vivax vloc3 why not use a different frequency? what frequency were you running in this video?
I just found you on here. I'll be watching for more videos
What locate company you working for?
What made you want to double ground it ?
By adding a second grounding point, I aimed to enhance the signal's strength and stability, leading to more accurate and reliable locating results.
Your orange tracer is Rg 6 cable.
It's underground coax cable. the center conductor is copper cladded steel with steel braiding.
The issue is people think this (RG6) orange wire is a trace wire, not a tracer wire for locating.
It's not RG6 coax, it's Trace-Safe which works great if installed correctly and you know what you are doing.
Awesome job....Thanks for the explanations and showing how a professional does it right!
You're welcome! Ensuring we achieve the best results and uphold high standards in our work is always crucial.
Do you ever mark from pure measurements?
No, we don't mark off measurements in the suburbs, only in the city of Chicago.
