A solo ascent of the amazing Ledge Route (II) on Carn Dearg Buttress filmed using a GoPro 3 Black Edition. 450m. "An excellent scramble through magnificent scenery. Start up Number Five Gully, and break out right on the first ledge from the foot of the gully proper. Follow this until it becomes impracticable, then take a shallow gully that leads up and slightly left to a higher ledge.Follow the...

Nice to see regular people doing good solid climbing.
Gear Gobbler.
I have just literally Seconded that climb. Incredible achievement for me. U made it pretty swift, well done. Defo felt harder than VS but was well protected. The climb taught me how to foot and toe jam and finger lock. Very pleased I did it 😊
I am looking at giving this a crack in July when I'm down there. Is this at low or high tide?
I think it was low but don't hold me to that! it was quite a while ago :)
That’s brought some memories back!…41 years ago I climbed that. 👍🏻
I wish filipino scientist have more documentaries on our biodiversity
Was soloing here in 1976 waiting to go to Lundy, then a guy turned up we looked up, and thought, let's do it. Great climb.
I'll bet it was magnificent with a little less polish!
VS ?!! Looks at least HVS !!
Perhaps the ample ability to place protection nuts and cams gives it the VS. Yeah if you fall on the HVS' under clifton bridge you are gonna swing like a suburban housewife.
I guess it's based on the gear being good but the climbing doesn't feel like your average VS. Bit of a sandbag!
@@halfarsedstudio But oh it looks like Paradise..never went there..hopefully will get back into climbing next summer. I have not climbed for some 30 years !! And was more of a caver anyway. Hit 60 in a couple of weeks and feel as fit as a butchers dog.

Jamming your nuts into a crack of a well worn route and knowing she is there to challenge, thrill and entertain you.. You are shitt8ng yourself every second but you think you can fool her that you are calm and in control. There is NOTHING like the caress of rock when you take up her challenge..BUT ALWAYS HAVE A PARTNER YOU CAN TRUST..WITH YOUR LIFE.
Keep coming back to your videos, this one especially. Hopefully I can catch a break in the weather this week to check it out.
Omg shark
New breed at 6c not pleasant greeting as in title. As the previous post states the left hand at 40 secs is out.
no wonder u idiots get killed / same with mountain climbers
inspiration pur
Nice climbing, and cool route :)
Nice crack and nice video!
thank you, it's a fantastic route. I hope you enjoy it!
Just come across this video today, looks like a nice climb, and looks like a long weekend trip is happening very soon. Nice. video
Awesome!!!!! I loved it! Thank you for sharing. It just increased the level of interest on my new passion, rock climbing!
Thinking of trying this. Is it not contrived because the hold from 38-42 seconds on the left is out? Looks like it climbs quite well!
Well done on completing the route. Some steep parts there. You don't wack the piolets in - less tiring - but then not very secure? I had wet palm hands at 5.40 looking at the right axe placement! Again well done for staying cool!
Lummers70 Thank you! I would normally put a bit more swing into the axes but we were experiencing a very cold snap in Cogne and everything was incredibly brittle. After a few days of dinnerplating everything I touched, I sharpened my picks to razors and went a little more gently :)
Lummers70 ...You are right though, some of those placements were a bit dodgy :D Thankfully, Im a little bit more proficient now!
I am sorry about the ridiculous delay! I didn't see the comment. I hope you got to do the route in the end. Just in case, It was Freddy The Frog Hits Torquay and goes at 6a+. Its nice and steep with super deep water beneath. I have been a few times and i have yet to see the bottom. I think its S0 anyway so should be good at all but the lowest tides. Its a great route with an excellent top out. Just commit to get over the slight bulge and make a few long reaches!
Cobras are too good for ledge route ! 😀
Thankfully just grip taped BD Vipers but they were all I had brought with me! Still way too good though. I was planning to have a go at Point Five Gully but I was let down at the last minute. It was either Ledge Route or Tower Ridge and I picked the easier option. After doing Tower Ridge a few weeks later, I wish I had done it the first time!
Both Great Routes done them many times. Tower is a Ballsy solo in winter !
Yes! The bad step and the traverse on Tower Ridge are both thought provoking! Fantastic route though. Took the CMD Arete on the way down which made for a very long day.
Brilliant mate I always do the cmd if its possible extra mileage and all that. Hopefully I'll get my cobras in to Zero Gully next week 😀
It looks like you guys have had some amazing conditions this year. Im currently in the Philippines so, painfully, I have missed the winter. The training has already started for the next one though! Good luck with the route!
at 3 mins did you manage to get that cam out again?!
Yes, the cam came out! Thats the beauty of double axle cams, they give about 40% more range than single axle at the cost of a little extra weight. As a rule, Black Diamond Camalots are only overcammed when the tips of the lobes cross each other when seated. No crag swag to be had I'm afraid! :)
Ah damn!
Awesome video just got the same gun today cant wait to try it out :)
what's the top like? iv'e always wanted to do that climb did you do it at high tide?
you didn't film the hardest bit :P i love thisTraverse done it last year will have to try it again
Damn! I saw this bit of the cove from my hotel room, and always wanted to try and climb up there. Went down the bay and had no enough balls to do it :P
Nice one thanks!
Thank you! It was shot using a GoPro 3 Black edition
Nice footage, what camera did you use?
Very nice. Good tune btw.
