Denim and selvedge and things I make. @EllaHarp singer songwriter / designer.
Wearing jeans I made every day for a year (8.5 month update)
Worn all but 7 days of 2024 in the yearlong Indigo Invitational denim fading competition, I made these cone mills raw denim selvedge jeans entirely on my domestic 1951 singer 201-2 back in Dec 2023. Machine washed with a splash of bleach and machine dried them 22 times, roughly every week.5.

Made these cone mills raw denim selvedge jeans entirely on my domestic 1951 singer 201-2 and have been wearing them daily in Y4 of the yearlong Indigo Invitational denim fading competition. This is my second go around, Y3 I wore a pair of Iron Heart IH 888s and excited to be wearing my own this time . I have machine washed with a splash of bleach and machine dried them 13 times (longer video to...
Sewing raw denim selvedge jeans to wear for a year (on a 1951 domestic Singer)
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Last year in y3 of the Indigo Invitational I wore a pair of Iron Heart IH 888s which I absolutely loved, but as a men's cut, I had to have them tailored a bit and the price range was out of budget a second time around so I used y4 as my ass-kick to finally design, draft and sew my own pair of jeans. I'm super happy with them overall and excited to see them progress over this year of wear! More ...
Denim knife unbox, Y3 Indigo Invitational spot prize: Lady Fader of the Year
Просмотров 650Год назад
Won this sick handmade knife from Heaton Knife Co as a spot prize in the Indigo Invitational raw denim fading competition (got Lady Fader of the Year!) and it has arrived. It's a little 80crv2 camp knife with a denim micarta handle and copper rivets/bolsters and it's just the cutest, coolest little knife. Beautiful details and workmanship - absolutely love it. Wore a pair of men's 14oz Iron Hea...
Raw denim jeans for a year, washing (drying?!) and fit tips for women
Просмотров 13 тыс.Год назад
I wore these 14oz (sanforized, one washed) men's Iron Heart 888 selvedge jeans almost every day for the year long Indigo Invitational fading competition. It was a great test in minimalism, reducing daily choices/consumerism and turned out to be one of the most delightful, motivating and community building experiences of my adult life. Worn 340-ish days of 365, machine washed and dried (15 minut...
Very interested in knowing how to order leather stamp. Is there a company you could recommend?
Where did you get the fabric from?
That’s all I needed to hear, they look so sick. Fuck it, washing my jeans 😂
Very beautiful and love the one piece fly
sexy af
Its good. Hope to send to you pattern for sth better considering the shrinkage.
Matthew 11:28 KJV [28] Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Is there a particular bleach you like using?
Before jeans wear thru in crotch area, cut new pieces for wear area that match the original shape even into seams. Add these inside with nice side toward outside of jeans. When the original layer wears thru, there is a nice new layer below. Thats how i like to do it. 😊
Jesus can help with depression and anxiety.
These are coming along really nicely. Can't wait to see how they look in the end.
Your fades are looking great! Also I love the belt you made
Thank you! It's probably my favorite one I've made so far
I think the frays look cool!
Same! Just so long as they hold up 😅
Nice job on the repair, they look great! And Rabbit's as adorable as ever!
Thank you! And yeah, she takes her job of being adorable very seriously haha
Good video. Those are fading nicely! 👏
Thank you! I like 'em
fantastic
So looking back on it. Was the size 29 the right size or could the 28 wear in and have fit better in the end. Thanks. About to drop a size in the IH 555 this year.
Love it!!! I look forward to the full-length video of the machine wash and dry!
Way overdue for this, in the next month for sure!
Great job!
🙌
Those are coming along really nicely.
Thank you! It's been fun to watch their progress
Impressive! They look great. Let's see you make a pair of leather jeans next.
Can't say I've ever wanted leather pants, but I could if i did!
@@weartildead Leather is easier to work with than denim. It's all straight stitching. No zig zag or serger needed.
@@mid-cityfashionfilms7253 This pair is actually single needle (straight stitch only) construction, so no zigzags or serged seams, more work but a cleaner outcome. I've made many things in leather but have to say I don't particularly love sewing it. Now if I had a walking foot...
@@weartildead Ok even better. Your jeans are made like the ones from the 1800s. All straight stitch back then.
i bet its really satisfying fading something youve made yourself. cool stuff
Like nothing else! Only problem is ready-made can't compete with custom specifics once you know this difference, which means a lot more work for me in the future 😂
👏🏽👌🏽👖
Nice! Would love to see more girl with iron heart and similar here 💜
You should start a podcast
what song is this
It's called 'Don't Leave Me' - EllaHarp and The False Bottom Band (one of mine).
@@weartildeadits really good
@@cophater298Thank you! 🙏
I will never buy another pair of raw denim after picking up my 888's, we going ham and no wash for 365 days. My the gods be in my favor and then need to pickup an IH526L. Killer fades on your 888's
They're such a great cut!
What a beautiful knife!!!
Right!?
Maam.. thats beautiful
So cool! I made myself a pair for the indigo invitational this year too! So fun to see you do it too
Ah that's awesome! What style did you go with?
Still waiting for that post on washing and drying techniques! I've always kinda felt like you can get away with a lot more rough care than the purists would lead you to believe, I mean denim is workwear after all. Also amazing sewing and drafting content! My dream is to one day make my own pair of jeans just like you did, can't say enough how inspiring it is to see such amazing work coming from someone so close to home!
Still need to do the full video, but did put up a short. As far as making your own, the learning curve was definitely something but there's almost nothing that feels better than a pair you've made yourself, take your time and you'll get there! ruclips.net/user/shortsQsCRp03CDZY
Wauw! Love it. Beautiful yarn color. And and ferry nice how you do the belt loops!
Amazing! Great job
Absolutely unreal craftsmanship.
Appreciate that! It didn't come easy 😂
Excellent job! Beautifully Lined pockets, selvedge fly etc And they fit perfectly How heavy are they?
Thank you! 13-13.5oz is my guess, but got it second hand and not 100% sure
Oh my god! Those jeans are legit badass!! And um, you look damn good those jeans!!
Gorgeous make with beautiful neat topstitching. I love topstitching, although I am a perfectionist which sometimes hinders me when i rip out stitching to re do it until I'm happy with the end result 😢
I ripped SO much of my topstitching out before it looked like this in the end. Worth the do over!
I'm not gonna toss them in the drier for fear of shrinking/marbling, but there's nothing wrong with washing weekly imo. Glad that we're all over the 1 year no wash, jeans in freezer thing. Nice pants!
They definitely do shrink a bit this way (less if you dry them for a shorter timeframe and put on damp) but the towels like this really do a great job preventing marbling. Also glad there's a shift towards washing acceptability!
Thanks for being an amazing human. Great job!
Nice!
First machine wash and dry for these jeans I made (from a few weeks ago, 30 days of wear) Here are my curated best practices, washing at least once every 2 weeks going forward for vintage fades: WASH Jeans inside out Machine wash hot Short cycle (15 minutes) Bleach in the holder Regular spin cycle Remove immediately DRY Jeans inside out Dry towel down each leg (prevents lines/marbling) Pin towels at center to hold better Extra towel thrown in Hot dryer, 20-30 minutes (til just under dry) Check towel positioning every 5 minutes Remove immediately Most sanforized fabric shrinks ~1-3%, I find much of the tightness loosens up again with wear. For the least amount of shrink, dry 10-15 and put on damp
these came out phenomenally
Nice result ! everything is great : the cut, the personalized leather patch and pockets
For once I want to see a white woman show off her white children, rather than some animal that she pretends to be its "mommy".
Love the video. I just finished my first pair on a Singer 201. It does such a good work with denim.
Awesome! They're amazing little machines
Have had the same issues with the men's cut on some selvedge denims, wish I had the equipment and skills to make my own pair. You've done an amazing job those jeans look stellar, especially love the detailed stitching on the back pocket 😍
Awesome build!
I wish this video was longer, you have skills I have never seen before...I am pretty green though...
So cool!! Great job on these
Thank you!
