Episode 11: Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor
After a hiatus during which nothing eventful happened but working and generally being too busy to align schedules, the bros are back with an episode dedicated to a truly unique game that straddles genres. Of course, area control is one of those genres. Enjoy!

Arcs next? :D
@areacontrolbros Regarding your difficulties making a second haven with the HokQuan, there is a way. You may have to think synergistically and outside of the box, but we did devise a way to do this that works many (but not all) times. I don’t want to spoil the fun and strategy if this is something you wish to discover for yourself, but there are some fun methods that can work
the more u play uprising the less you will call it unlucky. And thats amazing about this game
Agreed, there were some situations I used to call un winnable back in my first days of playing. Now I will almost believe anything can be turned around with the right combination of feats and quests
Hey guys, please get in contact with us at nemesis games and we'll hook you up with more stuff! :)
Another tip regarding your problems with variety in feat decks. Get the Allies pack when the next crowdfund launches, it gives a lot more interaction between players
Regarding the Titans expansion you don’t have, it really adds the final finishing touch to balance. The ability to hire mercs gives you tremendous new strategic new options without breaking the game especially in being able to immediately assign them wherever is most needed. As well as you mentioned with Ether.
Thanks for making this great content :) I interviewed the makers of this game a while ago, as it truly is the best of the best for me. ruclips.net/video/1ECxiI2Wkr0/видео.htmlsi=5xiYyRw5c_SQ_avL
Hi guys. Nice game you got there :)
Thanks for making a great game!
I haven't played it, but sounds like you hit the nail one the head with a (one of many?) problem being that if all the numbers go up, then all you are doing in making needless more math. Feels like stuff like that really should have been noticed and fixed in playtesting and development.
I'm pretty sure the medals in Eclipse are random and hidden so that there's just enough hidden information that the last turns don't grind to a halt while everyone re-calculates exact standing. Not defending it, but from a design point of view, that choice makes sense.
You're completely right from a gameflow perspective to keep the length of the game contained to a quicker playtime! I think what was grinding our gears was that we're just the the kind of people that would prefer to have that information revealed or less random even if it makes the game a little longer. - Will
Great discussion! My first game of Root was a bit of a nightmare scenario -- 6 players and 5 of us had never played before. I'm now very cognizant of attempting teaching asymmetrical games to even more than one new player at a time.
My worst gaming experience was pretty recent: Arcs. I got totally locked out of really having any meaningful actions or earning any points by round 2. The only meaningful decision I made in the next 90 minutes was to trigger scoring for the one player who wasn't locking me out to and making sure the game ended before round 6. I didn't feel like I made any bad choices mistakes, they game just seems lake any mechanisms to prevent dog-piling. First and last play, I will not go near Arcs again.
Appreciate you taking the time to re-record the discussion!
Eclipse lovers can get bent!
Lets go Forbidden Stars lets goooooo!!!
It’s so good! Lol
I've only played Inis twice, but I love how well the pacing works so that different players converge on the victory conditions at the same time.

How will they top this one, I wonder?
Great episode! I finally got a chance to play El Grande earlier this summer, and it was so good.
Looking forward to more of these! Any recommendations for area control games you like that play in under an hour?
Just by coincidence, our next episode we're recording tomorrow night will be covering three shorter games!
@@AreaControlBros Fantastic, looking forward to it!
