It seems like the standard line from certain council members is " we don't really want to hear from the community. We only need to hear from those that agree with us." They want to use "scientific" processes rather than democracy. I heard the same thing from Kelly Kent and the like; "we know what to do. Academics know the answer." Hmm... honestly, I think it's pretty clear that they don't. Democracy is still a thing no matter how inconvenient a truth that is to a certain political ideology.
