Thanks for sharing. Your patience is awesome and your video production is great. I can appreciate how much time it would take to stitch it all together. Before I got my Lancair, I used your videos for reference as it was the closest thing to my plane I could find.
Glad the video was helpful, CW! Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated!
Nice
Kind of funny, he kept his arm in the door hoop (handle) during the rest of the flight.
Yeh, I noticed that too. But he had fun.
Nice plane! Air is a much cheaper coolant than fuel. After break-in, with those tight CHTs you’ll save 5 gallons per hour by going LOP to the loss of about 5 kts. My Velocity (N36LV) had that engine, admittedly with one Lightspeed electronic module and one mag, but I always did Mike Busch’s “big pull” right back to 50 degrees LOP in cruise. 195kts day-in and day-out on 13.5 gph. That is truly a lovely engine to fly behind. Only one drawback: the “seventh cylinder syndrome”. The alternator resides where a seventh cylinder would be and is subjected to a lot of vibration. It work-hardens the alternator brush connecting wires which then fray and short to ground. I just replaced them at 50 hr intervals and the problem was solved. Happy flying!
An amazing flight with an extraordinary pilot, thank you for your professionalism and for the way you share your knowledge with us newbies. For many more flights and for a friendship that continues to grow. Thanks Paul
Nice, thanks for taking us alone.
Nice flight for Aldo, but it seems you are "over-explaining" facet's of operating this aircraft that is so far over his head as to be useless.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t call out altitude “10 to the East” because traffic was so light, but I see your point.
Wow, a lot of information for Aldo there. Bet he had a good time. Two things I noted, for airspeed 183+27=210 you had it right the first time. Also, I always like to say on first radio call to arriving airport the attitude as well. So it would be "Watsonville traffic 6512Romeo 10 to the East descending through 5,500 for fuel stop Watsonville". If I was departing I always thought it was helpful for my situational awareness to know the incoming traffic was going to be between 5,500 and traffic pattern altitude while on my climb out.
Nice video Paul. You are getting better at this every time. Have you added a couple of cameras? I like the little logo at the bottom, nice touch.
Thanks Cruzer! I use 4 cameras. The newest GoPro (Hero 8) often overheats and shuts down after 30 minutes. Then i at least have three others as backup.
that was interesting and fun to watch
Any discussion with the people that did the Dino testing whether that extra 30hp is constant? In other words, is it recommended to go full power on climb-out to a safe altitude and then power back for the remaining ascent to cruise altitude? So that extra 30hp is....if you are familiar with the movie Spinal Tap...where they have a "volume 11" on their amplifiers, when they need that "extra little push over the cliff". I know on a P-ponk conversion they convert a 230hp 470 to around 275hp but it is not for sustained or cruise applications, only for short climb-out use. The P-pink conversion is also a piston and cylinder conversion so it's quite extensive and maybe not relative to your upgrade. Anyway, thanks for sharing, excellent video.
Hi Crosscut, 30 HP was expected and typical for this engine after the procedure. Yes, know about the amp that goes to eleven (ha ha, classic movie) but that’s not the case here - since i can feel the extra power, mostly during takeoff.
Is the restricted area Fort Hunter Ligget?
Yep!
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Can't wait to see how you got the extra HP!
We don't need a bag of ice, we have snow. Thanks though.
Your mom is such a trooper! She is obviously so very proud and confident in her son's piloting abilities! Well done! Thank you for sharing your flight of the amazing 350 aircraft!
Love that plane, although don't see a lot of the Entegra panels that much anymore.
Too bad they didn’t design in a throttle quadrant.
Hello, is this stature or nautical miles? (I'm just figuring your ground speed.) Thx
That smile says it all! It's always fun to see folks fly a GA aircraft for the first time. Nicely done.
This was an EXCELLENT video. I know you produced it some time ago, but it is still relevant. I really really like the Columbia 350, and it is actually my airplane of choice given my mission. I know Cirrus is all the rage, but I really like this aircraft given the technology and the fact that it does NOT have a parachute. I've been looking for an airplane and the only thing that gives me pause is the potential for a lack of parts availability. I have not flown the aircraft, but just based on what I have read, and your videos, the Columbia is something I'm really interested in. Thank you for the videos. They are extremely helpful.
Jet did more flight with this best GA keep Secret such as the Columbia de faster single engine pisto IN THE WORLD
She is gorgeous body !!! Please make more video … you have the faster single piston engine IN THE PLANE Haaa now is not more Mississippi jaaaa one on 1000 love it explain more your 1-speed normal clime 2-defending speed 3- normal speed Cruise Speed on the down wing and went you set your approach flap ? 2- Spleen on the base 3- speed final 4- append shore final 5- speed on touch down aprox when you use your speed breaks? Again love your sound glasses
Common body !! Please expose more TTx wonderful video
Great video men … I love your sun glass Thx you please make more videos
Thts right primooo 🤙
Thanks for posting these commercial training videos in your Columbia!
Anyone flying into Ashland for this first time should watch this video. I have only flown in there from the north. When I saw you were setting up from a straight in 30 from the South I knew it would be interesting because you gotta lose altitude fairly quickly and that hill is very very close on final!
Keep it up!!! Grow your page easily - "Promosm"!
Find another instructor! That one was annoying and hovering over controls…given the hours you have in 12R
Jonathon is a great instructor. He works mostly with new pilots, so he’s always present and paying attention. Maybe the edits made his input seem a bit off.

82° is hot? Wow!
No, 82 is not that hot. It was actually closer to 90 (my bad) and much warmer in the cockpit.
Nice to fly your mom to Montana. My 90 year-old dad flies with me to see his army buddies in Iowa. Have fun!
Great flight! Great content too. What a pleasure to be able to share that flight with your Mom. I started my training at KWVI. Over at Cameron Park now. How long have you had the plane?
Hi Jon, About 6 years now. Are you working on your Private Pilot?
@@12romeo53 She is a beauty for sure! I am working on my IFR cert. I enjoyed flying on the coast. Keep up the good work and safe flying! Next time we fly into Watsonville I will look for you🙂

@@12romeo53 Will do!
Thanks for your nice video. It brings back good memories from some long distance flights with the C350 that I took in march this year. It is a wonderful aircraft.
Great job!!!!
Great job!!!!
I started flying out of Watsonville at the flying club there. That is a beautiful plane. And I miss the views there too. Cheers!
I just purchased a 2003 Columbia. Who did you train with? Thank you
Congradulations!! It’s a great plane, I’m sure you’ll love it! My insurance required 10 hours with TAA (Technically Advanced Airplane) trainer. I worked with Max Trescott, he lives nearby.
You might find other instructors here: www.cessnaadvancedaircraftclub.com
That was a nice flight. Thank you Paul !

Great flight.. like to see , use of the auto pilot
Turn off your strobe lights on the ground.
Nice video.
Thanks for sharing your video! How long have you had your 350? It’s really interesting when you call out your speeds…. When I received my training in my 350, my instructor had me using the speed brakes until final. Which after talking with several other instructors, I eliminated using them in the pattern. 125 downwind, 110 abeam with first notch of flaps and 12 lbs, base 2nd notch and 90, final 85 and 80 across the numbers…. How close is that to what you use?
I was going to ask the same thing, about his numbers....seems 110, 100, 90 dwnwnd, base and final. That's what I try to use then short final in the mid 80s'. I wish I had speed brakes!
Hi Steve, With proper power management and speed control, you don’t need speed breaks to land. I,too, know other pilots who use them in the pattern, but I stopped that practice years ago. Yes, I mumble about pattern speeds in the video and target 110 downwind, 100 in base, and 90 over the fence. Flair takes place around 80 depending on weight and wind conditions. Interestingly, I’ve practiced take-off position and no-flaps landings. The POH assigns very high speeds (110-120 KIAS for no flaps!), but I found 90/100 knots for take-off/no flaps landings work well.
Could you comment about fuel management, weight balance, elevator limitations on landing, maximum zero fuel and minimum flying weight limitations, and how these affect your flying. I’m in the market for a high performance single and am actively looking for a 350 but was advised to familiarize myself with its “quirks”.
Learned a lot Enjoyed watching Thank you,
