Why seagulls are a protected species is beyond me. They are attacking people and animals all the time, they are revolting anyway, there's millions of the bastards and some rarer species of bird are not protected at all. If you 'accidentally' run over one of these shits you get a massive fine and reporting to the police, etc! When I lived in Sweden, the company got a massive bird of prey every couple of hours with a guy and that made them scatter.
