The Secret Behind Themes In Video Games
A lot of people dismiss video games as a waste of time, and don't consider games to be an art. While I understand there are advantages to other art forms, I think video games can be powerful story-tellers. Specifically, video games can communicate themes in a powerful way. Let's see how!

    You touched upon some great 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘴 in this video. There's so much more to a game's narrative than just the lore being told in writing to the player. Really awesome to see comparisons being drawn between games that look so unrelated, like Minecraft and Hollow Knight. I also don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce Mojang like a hispanic version of Mahjong, but that doesn't detract from your topic :) All in all, great stuff!

    It took me reaching rock bottom, the absolute darkest part of my life so far... to finally learn to appreciate things. I used to play games but I never understood them, I never looked deeper, I just want to play games that were fun. But now I'm obsessed with all these heartfelt deeply emotional games, not even just the games, but their developments, a lot of games were made just to be fun, but so much emotion is poured into the development process, TUNIC for example. It's my favourite game and while the gameplay isn't very heartfelt, it's development was. When I decided to give Undertale another go a couple years ago, that's when I decided I wanted to become a game developer. It was such an amazing game, while it's main grabbing point is the characters, I was only interest in myself, the player, and how game was communicating to me personally. A lesson on determination and never giving up even when it seems like you have no other options, to stay true to yourself and just push through. That lesson was enforced by the fact that Toby Fox, who except for half of the art, managed to make a masterpiece of a game by himself, I didn't know it was possible. And then I got to thinking about all these games i had been playing recently, they're all so packed with love and self-expression... I realised that maybe this is something I could do too. I had some stuff that I could finally get off of my chest, I suck and talking to people or explaining how I feel so perhaps I could just show them instead through the art of video games. I have so many emotions I want to share. So yeah, now I'm currently learning game development. I don't yet trust I can make my own game so I'm recreating other games to learn the process but Im hoping sometime early next year I can finally begin my first piece.

      Yes! It's easy to forget sometimes in our world today, but art can be super powerful, and that includes games! In my experience making art can be a great way to express emotions and ideas, even heavy ones. Good luck on both your emotional and game design journey! ❤️

    If someone tells me they don't look at games as an art form, I'd have to ask them if they look at Architecture as an art form. Game design and Architecture are both forms of art, it's just that most people don't have enough math comprehension to see how they can be. The simple media is ALWAYS easy to appreciate, but the low-IQ masses will always be dumbfounded by the high-level arts. =\

    I believe we are the bad guys controlling the monkeyes to pop bloons against their will. These things are most likely harmless, We do it for our entertainment and leasure. This explains why the "war" will never end.

    i guess you could say bloons td battles 2 was the actual first td after village because in btd battles 2 you send bloons to other players meaning it could all just be that there are more monkey civilizations sending bloons at each other and stuff

    This whole video is complete speculation, from what I understand the devs on the BTD6 forums have answered quite a few questions with regards to the lore. For instance, the bloons are sentient and every tower has a monkey in it, yes, even the bomb tower. Don’t ask me how.

  • @drlarrymitchell

    What if bloons is a game in a game? as in they test the leader of a monkey city to defend against an endless onslaught for a cash prize. This is then put on tv for monkeys around the world to watch. The war was over by btd 5 they engrained it into monkey culture and made it a game in btd 6 they even have celebrity cameos (heros). But I don't know I might be nuts.

  • @ryanghazvinian9331
    @ryanghazvinian9331 2 года назад

    Theory: Bloon is rebel of monke and they were living in peace until they attack. Then, war breaks loose after lives are lost. The monkes win the war and eventually bring the Bloons to more of a slave state, following your hive mind idea, theirs only one bloon that did all bad actions.They start using the Bloons as soldiers for war so they don’t have to kill other monke, just use bloon. So, the Bloons bigger than ZOMG are obliterated including all bosses and bads, DDT’s are obliterated too, but are still out there. BTD battles is exactly what it says. Monke battling Monke. Bloons Monkey City is when the Monke start to enslave the Bloons, and put down the rebellion taking all the land.Sandbox mode is explained by being a training with artificial Bloons, not part of the hive mind, and artificial weapons kind of like VR.It’s also stated that Dr. Monkey has created a new training simulator, and wants you to try it out.

    I think the games go in the order they were made, with btc just getting a larger view of the monkey civilization, because it can't be the FIRST monkey city, as they already had advanced technology like bomb shooters, which wouldn't be invented until thousands of years later in our history, and seeing as monkeys are very similar to humans, it's safe to assume that their history is somewhat similar with the bmc city being more of a colony than an original.

    I think calling Satisfactory an idle clicker game is misleading and categorizes it as a completely different genre of game. There are some broad similarities in the beginning of the tutorial segment of the game where it teaches the player how to automate processes, but that is only because there is a lot of clicking involved. You wouldn't call Factorio or Dyson Sphere Program an idle clicker game. These are creative-build factory automation games.

    • @paulohsa22
      @paulohsa22 2 года назад

      This. They feel similar because of the "incremental" part, where you build stuff that builds more stuff faster, but that's where the similarities between idle and factory automation ends. You CAN let your character sit while the factory produces, but in idle games that is a requirement, in factory automation it is unoptimal play, since you could be using that time to make the factory grow faster. And we all know that the factory must grow. What he describes as an idle game on the first minute of the video is actually the definition of an incremental game, that is just a way broader category. An iddle game is a subset of that broader category that rellies on few or zero player interaction (thus, "idle")

    • @PreservedMoment
      @PreservedMoment 2 года назад

      I've always heard the terms incremental and idle game interchangeably, and so I've never really thought about it that way. I guess my point in making this video wasn't necessarily to call Satisfactory an idle game (despite what the title says), but instead I wanted to talk about how games like Satisfactory succeed where Idle games fail. That's why I defined idle game (note I never called Satisfactory a clicker game) as a game where your goal is growth through automation. I know there are differences between idle games and automation games in general, but I thought it would be interesting to talk about there similarities.

    • @PreservedMoment
