I kinda understand why this wasn’t in use. It doesn’t make sense because he is literally being controlled by a headcrab and is in pain and the only thing I hear is him giving status and acting normal except from crying out for help or screaming in pain

dunno why i never thought about this with the HL2 zombines (prob cuz super early introduction and just used to it) but it's interesting to think that the headcrab is trying to do its parasitism thingy-thing, but the combine have already obliterated the human beneath with their biomechanics; so is there really any human at ALL left under there like the normal zombies, or just a programmed automata that is misfiring trying to continue its programming? nonetheless its cooler to think this is an automatic indicator to the combine when squads go dark if they're still getting the transmissions off the helmets
I've always disliked how the radio chirps are slowed down. It really breaks the immersion of a combine slurring out words, reliving final memories, etc and just reminds you "oh they just slowed down the audio files with a filter".
Imagine if HECU zombies had these voicelines. Then imagine being an HECU grunt listening to the comms and hearing all of these transmissions.

It's because their head is torn off together with the headcrab when you remove it from their head. The helmet makes it so tight that the headcrab just holds to it forever. That's why when you shotgun a zombine to the head, the body only has a jaw.

Something spooky about the combine being so mentally altered that their first choice is to go through with standard protocols instead of panicking or screaming like the civilian zombies. Zombification destroys your individualism and self control, but the combine grunts lost their’s long ago.

I guess it’d work for the Overwatch as their helmets are practically their heads. But this is the exact reason the Resistance should be wearing helmets, especially Pickelhaubes and other spikey helmets.
my personal headcanon is that, the only thing headcrabs cant control is the voice and cries of their host, but for most normal humans they just end up sounding extremely distorted, but for the combine, by either use of their vocoder, or other enhancements, theyre still able to warn their comrades of the infestation, making sure to be as loud as possible so the headcrab cant sneak up on anyone with their body

y'know I honestly prefer the Half-Life 2 zombine's voicelines EDIT: to elaborate on my view more, the old voice lines sound more pained, more like they are barely hanging on at all.

I wouldn't say clearly. They did the same thing in HL2 with the old Zombines. Devs probably scrapped it because the HL:A vocoder doesn't sound as good as the HL2 one did for Zombines.

you can, if you listen closely you can make out "sector is not secure" and "sector overrun". they also say "target contact necrotics", and necrotic is basically combine term for zombie

I like to think this implies that Overwatch soldiers have so much non-biological electronic shit in their heads that whatever the headcrab does shut off/override doesn’t stop the soldier from it’s regular functions. From the neck up, they’re basically just walking, killing security cameras automatically reporting their activities and surroundings.
There’s a channel called “theparrysmod” makes cinematic quality hl short films, there is one called “anti-citizens” that focuses on this point, it’s chilling

No, thats incorrect. You can actually see how Combine soldiers look like in Nova Prospekt cameras or find the model with the console. They are transhuman, people with augmentations, thats why they are so good in their job, but they are not walking machines. They think and they still have their own mind. Brainwashed? Yes, plus real loyalty to the Combine because of the many advantages they have for serving. Stronger, faster, healthier and living like kings comparing it to the normal humans of Earth. Civil Protection guys already have a lot of reasons to maintain their allegiance to the Combine, so the soldiers even more then. So yeah, they are augmented and altered but they are still people with a working mind, not walking machines. But they are closer to beeing machines than to beeing only human, thats for sure. The transhuman forces of Earth are called like that for a reason, more than human.

If you mean the enemy called grunt in Half Life Alyx, they are combine soldiers, transhuman forces of the Overwatch, same guys as in Half Life 2 (soldiers), so those guys are not like what you call metro police, the Civil Protection. CP are normal human with no augmentations, the soldiers are transhuman, posthuman, augmented. But still people, only heavilly brainwashed.

Yeah source 2 has really advanced ai pathfinding to the point where each footstep is choreographed in advance relative to where the intended destination of the entity is, they go pretty deep into it in the HL:A developer commentary. The old source engine has no way to simulate this or even really compensate for it so the movement here looks absolutely busted lol
