Slappin' Loominum
Австралия
Добавлен 25 авг 2020
Slappin' Loominum is all about Victorian Fishing, especially Melbourne including both Western Port Bay and Port Phillip Bay. Growing up in Metung, I have done years of fishing in the entire Gippsland Lakes system including off shore from Lakes Entrance, Tambo river, Nicholson river and Paynesville. I'm now fishing in Melbourne in my glorified tinnie/tinny "Slappa" which is a pontoon Aluminum boat from Queensland. Stay tuned for videos of Whitting, Snapper, Flathead, Gummy Shark, Tuna and Kingfish!
THE GUMMY SLAYER: Catching Sharks on Op Shop Gear
Out with me today was my good mate Brent Hayhurst, a musician and carpenter from Melbourne who was keen to catch his first Gummy Shark!
We headed to Lakes Entrance from Metung with no rods in the boat. We split up and roamed the streets covering 3 OP-SHOPS to find something to take offshore, and this broken old 1970's Daiwa reel and an equally run down old rod was the best we could do!
This proves you don't need an expensive setup to get out in mumma nature and catch a feed and have some fun.
Shout out to @Momentslikeme who suggested this challenge in the comments from another gummy video! If anyone else has more ideas please comment, I love to hear from you guys.
It's Brent's music we used ...

FINDING JOE'S First Gummy Shark! The ocean was calmer than the lake! Lakes Entrance Fishing.

One night at Metung over dinner and a few drinks, Joe mentioned that he'd never caught a Gummy Shark. I then checked the weather for the next day and it was prime conditions to head offshore. I was able to make his wish come true! Hope to have you onboard again Joe!

Hi mate . Can you share the coordinates? I haven’t been able to locate them
If you head straight out of lakes entrance heads for 6miles you’ll hit 6mile reef. It’s not a pinnacle but more an acreage of reef grounds. Just drive out an sound around an anchor up if you can. I hope this helps. Cheers!
@ I see . Thanks mate
Nick, love your video's!! I am new to lakes can you do a tips and tricks for fishing off shore for lakes eg tides, winds, weather swell etc. i can never glass out conditions.
G'day, thanks a lot! There is plenty of info in the comments of my other videos. But I never bother going out in swell over 1m. Offshore winds are the best. And if you're not familiar with lakes entrance bar, cross at high tide.
I think we’re due for another challenge Nick!
Thanks mate! Coming soon I promise. Editing has been a challenge to fit in of late.
Nick, because of this footage, I bought a drone. great video!
Great to hear mate. You won’t regret it!
Croc bait
Played before?
?
😂 Nick, I love this video! Only you and Brent together can do something like this. 😂 Its such a pleasure and so much fun to watch you and Brent haveing fun on the slapper 😂
Vielen Dank, Maria! We should’ve offered them $4 though… haha. We had an amaaaaaaazing cook up after.
Do you live there? Looks like they’d be everywhere there?
No I’m from the Gippsland lakes in victoria. I occasionally visit a friend up there.
Awesome mate, great idea for a vid to fish with the op shop rod..
It was actually a subscribers idea in the comments so I can’t take the credit! I’m thinking of doing another one. Cheers mate!
Hi mate what depth do you fish in? I'm going down to lakes in May and would love to get a gummy
15-20m. I just landed three west of the heads in about 20m.
Hmmm....Beer Batter Shark? A first for me! 👍🏾
So good!
Love your tubes, good to see you back at Lakes, keep up the good work.
cheers mate!
That bar crossing was Epic 👍
Yeh it took a while to read it that day!
@@SlappinLoominum I've only been across a few times..just bought a larger boat

Nothing better than flake that was swimming a couple of hours prior!
Looks great, thanx for the tips.
No problem 👍
Good catch mate you’re going to enjoy your feed but make sure you mark your pots with your details, you may have and I didn’t see the tag. Only a heads up mate, cheers and hope you did well on the second check.👍
Thanks mate! They weren’t my pots and I don’t believe they were tagged. Will remember for next time. Cheers! And the feed was unreal. Blanched them then fried off in a big wok with butter, garlic, chilli, spring onion and white wine!
Hope to see you soon my friend. The mud crab is getting bigger up here.
Hey mate! I’m planning to come up with my boat and 4wd in winter. Thanks again you legend!
Great work Slappa, love your tubes, looking forward to some more Red Bluff Gummys, cheers
Just remember a label with your details on the end of your rope above the water line champ
Cheers!
Not the first time I've seen you get crabs?
Haha! Was waiting for it ChunkZ!
Looks like fun
Part 2 will be out in the next couple of days.
rad
That is so cool, what make/model is it.
It’s says it in the caption
Mini 3 pro
👍😃👍
Love your videos. Could you do one on bait catching? What’s your technique for finding/catching barracuda and arrowheads?
Yeh sure! I've found that western port squid rig (paternoster) works well on the reefs. But you'll get them on a sabiki rig too. There's massive schools of couta out there and they show up on the sounder. I'll keep that in mind the next time I go out. cheers!
Thanks so much for that. I do have some Sabiki rigs, but thought they might get bitten off by couta as the hooks are so small and the line very fine. Do you just sound them up and drift over them with the rig? Any tips for arrowheads? I’ve caught one by accident at 6 mile but never got one out there on a jig. Love your channel it’s so informative Cheers CB
Outstanding videos
Thank you so much 😀
Great to see some local Gippsland action
What do you rate the Tohatsu ?
I bought it brand new a few years ago before the ban and it’s the best thing I ever did. Never missed a beat!
@SlappinLoominum I used to work on Lady Cheryl . Also lived at Lakes for a few years. Being a fisherman out of Lakes, I found that the Central hotel was a bit of a trap. Kicking myself now that I didn't buy a tinny instead of going to the pub when I had a trip off .
@geoffhall7827 haha! I hear you. A similar thing happens to me at the Metung! Never too late to buy a tinny mate…
Great video mate. I’ll be out there in a few days with my 13 year old son. And lake Tyers
Excellent mate! Lake Tyers is a great spot to fish. Might see you there!
its strange, a few years ago, there were way more crabs in there, now its less and less.
I agree the numbers are less however you can find them. It may a few reasons but I’d say it’d be due to the severe rain we’ve had in recent times and over fishing at lakes entrance! I’ll give it a go this summer and let you know.
You made look hard
Why thankyou!
just watched your video. really good mate its good your showing at the end how to cut them up. Safe travels out there mate i might see you out there one day.
Cheers mate! Might see you out there over the summer holidays.
Which boat ramp
Stony point
Mate. Any flathead caught in gippsland lakes are considered as dusky flathead, its doesn't matter what it really is. So they do have a maximum size of 50cm. Not a big issue, only don't want you or other viewers get in trouble. Have a good one.
Gday! Thanks for commenting. The max size is actually 55cm for a dusky. The title of the video states, “blue spotted flathead”. If you watch the video from start to finish it’s very clear that I’m in the ocean and not in the lake system. Cheers!
Actually that's lake Tyers and in the gippy lakes west of Metung about 95% of the flattys are southern blue spot
What size boat is it
4m
Excellent video again..were you guys drifting or anchored up?
Cheers mate! Anchored mate. You can see me drop the anchor at the start.
I love this video! Its the best to see you two on a boat together 😄 „I never swear, ever“ 🤣😂😅 and your dad cures sea sickness with a beer 🍺 🤣😂😅🍺
haha! All the kiddies got their photo holding up the sharks! I know for next time to take some long necks of Melbourne incase he gets seasick again...
Great video! Well done team
Whats your channel?? Ha
😆
On ya dad!!
Just wondering what the spot / location at Lakes your catching? I’m heading up next week
g'day, this was east of the heads. There's plenty west too but the biggest one I've caught was straight out the front of the heads! They're everywhere mate, just put the time in with fresh baits and you'll find them. Your best chance is around the 18-20m mark I'd say. Hope this helps. There's more info in comments on my other videos too. Cheers!
Gday mate. Is this left out of entrance?
@@anthonymcfarland4196 yeh mate, east.
Awesome video as always mate! And well done to your Dad for catching his first Gummy, how cool is that!
I know! He caught all 4 so great first gummy session for him. Thanks man!
Nice work Joe, great fish! What a cracking day on the water!
It was meant to be! It was like a mirror out there…
Hey mate what size reels?
The bait runner is a 4500 and the Saragossa is a 10,000. I mostly use 2000 and 4000 sienna reels!
So good. Onya Joe👌 Been hanging out for a new upload 🤘🎣
Thanks mate!
Nick and Anthony you gave me a day I will remember for ever hope to see you soon boys
Hope you don’t mind the upload mate! Great to have you onboard mate. Cheers
Taste good?
Yeh man! I’ve mastered my beer batter…
Love it
Cheers!
Whats the crabbing like late January mate
It’s pretty good all year round mate. From land or boat?
@@SlappinLoominum from boat 14 ft open cab firberglass probably try and get out to six mile too
Yeh you’ll find crabs for sure if you have a boat. You’ll get some good snapper around that time too!
@SlappinLoominum thanks will have family on board will cruise from paynesville will you be around
