8 Days Jeep Camping on Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The start of the west or the end of the east? As the long days of summer arrive, I drive my '22 Rubicon 800 miles from Westchester County, NY to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, exploring the back country and shoreline of the Great Lakes. In the evening, I cook and pop the camper top when it's time to drift off. Jeep camping in a thunder storm on Lake Michigan, digging for copper in the Keweenaw Pen...

As spring returns to the green mountains of VT, I spend some time exploring class 4 roads in the central and southern part of the state. The Jeep gets to stretch it's legs a little during the day and serve as my cozy home at night. We also visit Neal Pond upstate to help out with a moving project.
A Total Eclipse from Vermont

Well, everyone has their own eclipse story. Our family has roots in the state of Vermont so we figured we'd watch the 2024 eclipse from our property northeast of St. Johnsbury. Burlington, however, was almost dead center for totality so we rented a place over there for the weekend. I also wanted to run some trails, and managed to squeeze in a a bit of exploring in central VT. Will be back up th...

Colorful Jeep Trail Run--Hunter MT.
Просмотров 511Год назад
Not my usual Catskills hike. I joined a Jeep tour up Hunter Mt during peak fall colors in Oct '22. The tour was organized by Northeast Offroad Adventures, an off-road adventure and training organization located in Ellenville, NY The run was easy (although had some nice pitches) and designed for all skill levels. The weather was absolutely gorgeous during peak fall color, and the vistas from the...

In this final episode of Jeep Into Maine I visit Bar Harbor to do some business. Afterwards I drive along the Loop Road and hike some Acadian coastal and interior trails, ending up on a mountain with gorgeous views of the distant ocean. The trail also leads to a giant boulder perched on the edge of a precipice. The next day I reward myself with a coin operated hot shower and chat with camp neig...

In this episode I exit the North Maine Woods and set out on backroads toward Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin. A unexpected detour and unpredictable weather derail things but we still get a peaceful if soggy Baxter experience. Later, I head south for the Acadian peninsula and cook up some fajitas on the first night at my campsite in a popular campground on Somes Sound. August 2023. If you're ...

My longest overland trip to date launches into Maine, exploring it's natural charms from the logging roads of the North Maine Woods to the rugged coast of Acadia National Park. In the first episode, things get off to a shaky start in Portland, NH. But we (the Jeep and I) eventually hit our stride as we camp by a lake, do some paddling, and push farther north to the threshold of the vast North M...

Hiking A Catskill 35er--Blackdome Mt

After hiking Slide Mt, I have Catskill summit fever. Looking to bag another 3500 footer, I ramble up Blackdome Mt on a beautiful June day. The 3rd highest peak in the Catskills at 3980 feet, Blackdome offers a lot: dense canopy, streams, bridges, great views, scrambles, and branching trails to other nearby summits. Also, night will fall before the hike is over!

Very nice video. Too bad you were under the weather for some of it. I got a kick out of your pronunciations of the towns!
That was a glaring issue, better in future vids. Thanks for the comment!
Love the video. I know of a bunch of dispersed camping around tupper lake. Did you end up getting property up here? I live in the adks. ❤ it here.
Thanks Patricia, you are living my dream! Always interested in campsite intel. New ADK vid dropping soon…still looking.
Thanks for the ideas! We live 15 minutes from the temple and I had never heard of it before.
Cool!
Hope you can come back some day. Maybe practice pronouncing the names. People took time out of their day to teach you and you seemingly refused to pronounce just about every name correctly.
Yes sir, will be ready next time 👍
im sure you've heard this already but its "pass tee" not "pay stee"
Ha thanks! Yooper's have had a sit down with me on that one.
I grew up camping in the UP, and still do solo trips up there several times a year. It's where I find my adventure. I never get tired of it. Thanks for checking it out!
You are fortunate!
North Jersey in da house!! 😎 That Hindu temple is amazing! I had no idea it was there…😏
hi! Def worth a visit, esp the inner temple where no filming is allowed.
Thanks for the video. We are planning a trip next summer to the UP - towing our Jeep with our motorhome. We will be hitting the Jeep Badge of Honor on Drummond Island and then spending a week or two touring the UP.
Sounds amazing---didn't know about Drummond!
nice rubicon setup, and great color paint. 2015 trd offroad tacoma in SE MA here, about 3 hrs from where you were i think. ive spent time in killington and upstate ny, its super nice.
Thanks Tom, that Tacoma sounds awesome, had a 2012 for a while. Many places to explore in the NE.
Thank you, not many on the east coast doing videos like this
You're welcome, not many but a few interesting ones out there. One I like is darkside off-road.
Trying to purchase land in the adk park is like pulling teeth. The APA has so many hoops to jump through!!!
It is a process...still looking a year later and might update things with a new video.
I head down on the coldest days of the year and bring my Mt. Bike and Canoe. Fun Place in the winter to camp.
Indeed!
Pine Barrens...Great episode of the sopranos...
Lol...that episode was never far from my mind.
Boring as hell
New Jerky, you need a permit to be permitted to get a permit.
Do you tell on a video or somewhere about your roof rack and tent ? It’s really slick compared to others I’ve seen
In this video I talk about it. Need to do a full rig update soon. ruclips.net/video/Gvjek_DfIx0/видео.html
The UP is one of those places that creep into your soul and make you never want to leave again.
A truly unique area. 💚
Also, what diesel heater are you using? Any after market add ons also? I have a My Buddy heater and although it’s been fine I still don’t love having it in the tent and rather something that I can set up outside of the tent and pump heat in continually
Anthony, I'm using this one. Just be sure to get a long enough duct hose! www.amazon.com/HCALORY-Bluetooth-Control-Monitor-Trailer/dp/B0BM5M4BV8/ref=sr_1_1_pp?c=ts&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zqaXSs1Uv_6OvmTgI6mdbj1vmWFAcpg0ebxbP7YMNy7INvEdw3ptctvcyBWJNtpOq6Rb9neFlps4p5pSOfpuR-AP6F8yfJGh-XGjBQPyg7g.3dOAjz5763Yw49eIwxw2BZnE06gi4ISWUl98RfcoW-4&dib_tag=se&keywords=Automobile%2BInterior%2BHeaters&qid=1732570845&refinements=p_89%3AHCALORY&s=automotive&sr=1-1&ts_id=15723891&th=1
@@jimbresnahan appreciate it, thanks
Awesome video! We just camped the Pine Barrens 2 weeks ago. Loved the views and trails
That's cool--so much to explore!
Insanely good post-production and narrations! I hope you get a large following! This is great, keep it up!
Thanks man--super inspiring comment!
I have had the very distinct pleasure of paddling the AWW twice and they were both trips of a lifetime! Glad you enjoyed your time in the great state of ME 🙂
That's wonderful! Hope I'm as lucky.
Great video, but you totally mutilated all of the local pronunciations...
Sincere apologies...will prep better next time!
I am wondering the same thing. Been going there for 30 yrs.
What an awesome trip!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching Pablo!
Hi there! I’ve told you those already but will say it again - love your jeep set up and your videos. Can you tell me what bumper that is you put on and is your winch an 8k lb or 10k lb?
Hey Jeff! It's an Arcus bumper from Rugged Ridge and an 8k Warn Xeon winch.
What kind of electric blanket? Battery or plug in?
Plug-in
@@jimbresnahan I love your setup. Great video also, I enjoyed it. Please keep sharing.
Loved every second of this! Great job!
Thank you Donald--this is super motivating!
Great great video! I don’t know what you do for a living - your production of the video and the shots are impressive. Please keep the videos coming!
Thanks a ton Jeff! I work in animation but enjoy doing this kind of stuff.
I grew up in South Jersey and after marrying my wife we used to take our sons to Lebanon State Forest’s lake to teach them how to fish, that was 30 yrs ago. It is a lovely area. It is amazingly quiet and serene for an area smack in the middle of two huge Metro areas. Sad it’s been named for Byrne a democrat most South Jerseyans detested.
Such a unique area--thanks for sharing your memories!
Excellent video, thanks for taking us along! I live in Maine and you've inspired me to plan a similar adventure.
Thank you! So much adventure in north Maine.
Enjoyed the video, give you allot of credit pushing yourself. Though I’ve boated for many many years I’ve never canoed. Toyed with the idea. As always thanks for sharing
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Sorry, dude, the view rocks up there when you can actually see it. It’s a pretty good hike. The West Coast has discovered the concept of switchbacks. Not so here in the Northeast.
Baxter is so cool!
"How much deeper could it get" is a terrible question to ask.
🤣
Especially so in the Pine Barrens.
Gotta be with nature when I have the NV2500
Next summer I'm doing this trip from the Chicago direction.
You had me at Michigan. ❤❤❤❤❤
Great videos and BTW..... that is one awesome Jeep!
Thanks Jeff!
not to rub salt on a wound, but it's usually a pilot error when a dji drone goes down
Lol Melvin, I'd say it's always pilot error in my case.
Here in Maryland state parks work under honor system. Not sure how much longer that will exist.
Thank you for that info!
Nicely edited video. As others have mentioned, you missed some of the more spectacular spots, especially in the northwest portion of the UP. Linguistic tip from a lifelong Yooper: "Pasty" rhymes with "nasty", not "hasty". And a true Yooper would NEVER ruin a pasty with gravy. Ketchup, or nothing. The classic combo is a pasty (with sides of coleslaw and a dill pickle), and a 6-pack. It's called a "Yooper 7-course meal". As a kid growing up in the UP, the pasty is an all-purpose food. Boy scout or youth group outing? Mom throws a pasty in a bag with some cookies and a bottle or two of water and you're fed for a day. Kids eat them at ambient temperature, meaning even in winter we eat them. The Big Two Hearted River is lovely, and of course Hemingway wrote a short story using that name as its title. But a bit west and south you'll find the Fox River, which flows south (Big Two Hearted flows north). It passes under M-28 at Seney. In the early part of the season when the water is high you can canoe it all the way to Manistique. Locals know that Hemingway actually fished in the Fox River, not the Big Two Hearted. He used the Big Two Hearted in his short story title because it's more poetic sounding, but also because he didn't want people finding out his fishing spots. As you learned, "L'anse" rhymes with "schwantz", not "chance". It has French Canadian roots. Though the largest ethnic group in the UP generally is Finnish, there is a sizeable French Canook presence in the UP. My neighborhood had a lot of Finn names like Aartilla, Maki, Sampala, Lahti, Rintomaki, Rajala, Lahtinen, Pelto, Aho, etc., but we also had French Canadian names like L'Hillier, Lancour, DesJardins, etc.
Amazing comment--this adds so much color and context! Wish I had know you before visiting or writing the narration--your writing should be published.
This was a really enjoyable trip with great production quality. You are good at this. Question: what do you do with your diesel heater at night when it’s raining?
Good question which I've never had to answer. It's all contained in a weatherproof case so I assume it'd be fine and I'd probably never use it above freezing.
Wow, VERY nicely done video. Sorry you were sick for part of it. Even though I live here, I still enjoy watching other people's videos and sometimes find new places to explore. :)
Thank you Angela! Truly beautiful a place you live.
What do you use to find the trails?
Gaia GPS and OnX Offroad apps.
@@jimbresnahan cool, thank you
I love your jeep and the set up. I have to ask - why no winch? Nothing crazy but your by yourself out there……..
I have one now but not in the early videos.
I’m digging your videos……. Same quality video and narration as venture4wd channel, not plug but a compliment
Thanks Jeff! Bought my Jeep/Ursa because of him. Kind words like that are inspiration to keep going.
MUST go to High Rock Bay next time, thats always the "End Destination" on my UP trips
Great to know. Thanks Chris!
Nice videos, but my biggest congrats is for being one of the few vblogger who actuall knows how to camp cook!
😂 Anything cooked in cast iron counts as a camp meal. Thanks Paul.
Gotta check out Houghton Hancock. Very peaceful video
Thanks!
