Swell cover pattern layout
Просмотров 877 часов назад
Here’s the process I used to get in a little bit of line work on my swell covers! As always, this may not be the best way or the only way to do it, but it’s the way I’ve decided to try it… I hope this helps!
Fender shaper

Here’s a little contraption I made to get my stirrup and fenders stretched and shaped! Should be easy enough for you to copy and make one on your own… I hope this works! Look for me soon on Patreon!

Neat little “toy” I picked up that helps give me a different camera angle!

Seats cut in on this saddle! Once it dries, I’ll put an inlaid seat in, with some beautiful ostrich!

Here’s how I figure out a swell pattern… may not be the right way or the best way… but it works for me!

Watching you cut that cantle, some would think your knife wasn't sharp enough but just don't realize that you were just going slow to follow that line so good, and most may have not have ever tried to follow a line on 3 to 4 layers of skirting leather 😊
Hi I just bought a Landis 16 looking for an owners manual and a supplier to get needs and thread for the machine. I looked online but having a hard time finding a manual. Would you know anyone that is selling one online Thanks
Several places… top of mind Campbell & Randall in Conroe, TX for needles and thread… Eli at Landis in Arthur IL Sorrell Notions has the manual you can download…
@@DavidMillsSaddlery Thank You Have a great evening...
Sorry to see ya go!
No more channels from the USA for me. Unsubsribing now.

Привет отличная машинка
what type of leather is that your wrapping around the cantle? It looks like a chap leather.
This is W&C chocolate skirting!
All I can see is arm pard.
I like the way you put those two business-like slots in the end of the stirrup leather so that you can run a piece of leather through it. Prior to watching this video I would have been reluctant to do that and it's definitely the key to threading the leather back through. It's also helpful to be able to show where the leather has to go (the front view), but I wouldn't encourage people to take the saddle apart in the front like that. It's not necessary on a well made saddle, and if the saddle isn't well made, you REALLY don't want to pull it apart because the screw holes might get stripped or something and it may be impossible to put it solidly back together.
I put a leather rosette in those slots at the end of the leathers, after I slide the keeper on! That way the thing won’t slide off!
Great video! Love the machines
what thickness leather do you use for skirts?
Depends on saddle use… barrel or lightweight “trail” saddle I’ll use 10-12 oz. Working saddle as much as 14-15 oz!
Que diametro es la broca 1/16" 3/32" o 1/8"?
I honestly do not remember! Depends on the needle size you want to use!
@DavidMillsSaddlery muchas gracias saludos
1 /16"?

Got the trailer set up nice. IMPRESSIVE.
I have a couple
Excellent job, David! Would it help to keep the buckle on tighter by going the opposite direction with your velcro piece?
No, because the tong or tongue hook thing is curved the way it is!
Damn, I can't understand you, lol. How's the shoulder?
Later in the video slow down! The shoulder is “there”… haven’t been released from the doctor…
Hie am kindly looking for model. B USM HCM-B Hytronics Circuit diagram . Please help
I don’t have one…
Yes it is and thank you for sharing make it more easier to follow I appreciate it
You’re welcome! Thanks for liking!
Please, David, show us the motor and its controller of the machine. Thank you.
Any servo motor and a speed reducer will work!
That is one of the best tutorials on the layout of that design I have seen- and I've watched a few. You would have been an excellent shop math teacher.
Except I cuss too much lol
Good ol David.
I am sure you do pretty good down there in Bandera country. Out here in Tn. no one wants to pay for anything. They always say it just leather. Why the HELL did I leave Texas for the love of a woman. I must have lost my mind.
Trailer and your setup are looking good. Hopefully you do well with sales. I haven't been to Bandera since College when our church put on a camp at the Flying L. Bandera is a neat town.
It’s not as fun as it used to be!
Can you share what the solution was?
I wish I could remember… let me watch video and see if it rings a bell!
The dimple on the side is for putting in a round felt disc that lubricates the thread by contact.
I just love not being able to see what you're doing. Makes things so much easier.
Glad you’re happy! I’m not a professional videographer so for that I apologize! When I get rich and famous, I’ll hire one!
Can you make a video or short on how to clean and maintain the fleece lining to last longer?
I’d just get you a soft bristle brush, similar to what you are using to brush down your horse… lightly brush…
That is so wild
For once the old one trigger is an advantage 😀
Yes, until I have to hire someone to do work for me, I’ll leave as is!
Muy bueno el trabajo
Trailer is looking good. Looks like your building some inventory. Hope your shoulder is getting better.
I tried to get some stuff knocked out before the surgery! It’ll be hard to go anywhere for awhile! I’ve still got 4 weeks of a sling!
@@DavidMillsSaddlery Let it heal, David! (nice items you have in stock!)
This is the best video on the RUclips's. This video literally saved me thousands of dollars. No joke. Thank you, David Mills!!!!! Your amigo in Central Texas
I’m glad yall got it figured out!
Awesome technique! Thank you for sharing
You are so welcome!
Looks like a Vergez Blanchard--a few differences from their current versions, but more similarities than not!
Ooh your videos are making me seriously consider buying one I’ve seen. Would you be willing to make how to set and use, and also trouble shooting videos?
I could try! Let me know when you get one, and I’ll walk you through it!
That is a neat machine, I want one. I have an old motorized blade splitter, can''t think of the name right now. I like that this machine doesn't smoosh the leather down as it drives it through. Also, wondering, how parallel does that center roller keep it to the knife? I hate that about mine, that, or it will finish thinner than it started.
It finishes it out evenly! If anything maybe the first 1/4” may have a slight bevel! I’ve got a Stanley Centenial 18” fixed blade splitter that works decently! Sometimes the piece doesn’t go all the way through! I’m thinking I’ll try to put a speed reducer on it in hopes of increasing the “torque”!
11 1/2 - 12 oz means nothing to people that don't know a lot about leather. It would help if you said the actual thickness. But still a cool video.
Well this is directed at people who do know… thanks for watching!
@@DavidMillsSaddlery but I would like to learn. It would be helpful to people wanting to get into leather work 🤗
My apologies! I’ll remember that in the future!
If your like me. that would be the first mistake you ever made & still waiting to make the 2nd one. LOL.
How's your shoulder? Better I hope.
No, surgery has been rescheduled to May 7th!
That's awesome. It's a second one of your little band knives, right? What a cool tool. Sometime I'm going to have to drive from NM to Texas and play with all these leather tools that you restore.
Come on!
I did buy a potentiometer to slow this down!
And it didn’t do a thing!
It might be a little fast!
Can I ask what kind of converter did you use for the power and does all the motors run off it?
Finger edger😂
Never seen one thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent work. Impressive for sure.
Thank you
I really like it! Sell me a set of plans? Not only no, but hell no, I know.... David, you rest that arm and shoulder dang it! You have too many cool tools to put back to use, and leather accoutrements and saddles to make. Take it easy!
I’m sorry, I’m not selling patterns at this point… eventually I will!
It shows the love you put into it !
