This Lake Looked Perfect... Then I Went Underwater...
My trip to Lithuania to explore Trakai Castle turned out unexpectedly.
I was a bit shocked to see the state of the lake when I dived underwater.
Thank you for Lithuanian Diving Academy nardymoakademija.lt/
And thank you for my lovely wife Mara for filming everything while I was underwater!

    Pretty sure, that it is an invasive signal crayfish 3:39 Should have picked it up and trash it too ^^ I know that the crayfish it selfe is not responsible for his presence but it harms the ecosystem.

      @@BeBraveToAct i know what you mean but the Signal crayfish is never good outside from its Natural Habitat (north America) it Brings a diseas that european (crayfish) species are not familiar with and die from IT while the north American are immune. And furthermore they spread fast and eat almost anything in contrast to european crayfish which are more of specialists. that could be a reason there is only few Vegetation and other Life forms in the Lake... To be clear: there are 3 north American crayfish species (kaliko, Signal & kamber) introduced to Europe and all of them are a thread to the native biodiversity here, there is No in between.

    • @BeBraveToAct
      @BeBraveToAct 11 дней назад

      oh wow, you figured out from that green underwater video that it's Signal crayfish ! I was sure that's the native one. Thank you very much for such detailed information, really interesting. I think there should be some programs of removing them, similar maybe to Lionfish in Mediterranean sea when divers hunt for them, because it's exactly the same problem as you described with the crayfish.

    Hi Dima! When l've seen the name of this video my first thought was: "why burning? why not cutting this wood to transport and give it to locals? Or creating a wood storage for future campers and other tourists?". But when l started watching l realised that island is too far from mainland, it is uninhabited and rarely visited, so it doesn't make sense to transport or store this wood. You're doing great job showing people that if everyone would be involved in small local projects, consume less, save electricity and so on we'll restore wildlife habutats and create a better world for all of us. Thank you! 🌲🌳🌾

    • @BeBraveToAct
      @BeBraveToAct 24 дня назад

      Thank you very much Olga. We had a long discussion about burning. Everyone agrees it's not really good solution, but probably the best in such circumstances. There were a lot piles which were left 2 years ago. And no one was using them. Of course we took some wood to the camp, and actually left larger logs which someone can use to build a fences or for burning in the house or camping site. But most of the wood we had to burn.

    It is disturbing to see a historical practice, once tied to survival, now devolved into an act of collective cruelty. This massacre no longer has anything to do with respecting traditions, but rather seems to satisfy destructive instincts. By showing their children that death can be dealt so easily, without thought or respect, they are sowing violence instead of empathy. Teaching the next generation that life, in all its forms, is precious should be our legacy, not one of senseless slaughter that disrupts the balance of our world.

    The last aurochs were not shot down! The last herd of aurochs in Jaktorów Forrest (the king's property) had a special king's official who cared for them. For instance, he gave them food in snowy winters, counted the population of aurochs and a special royal decree ordered other officials to cooperate with him. Bad luck - the last years of the XVI and the beginning of the XVII were the most frosty and snowy times in the Nort of Europe in known history. Baltic sea was regularly frozen so people on horses and merchant carts wandered through it! And in these times came to this part of Europe the unknown there a deadly for aurochs cattle disease epidemic. At the very beginning of the XVII century, almost all the population of aurochs was dead. Only one female remained. This female aurochs lived for the next twenty years alone but was still fully cared for by the king's official. She died in 1627 year and her horn was given to the king after her natural death and the king ordered it to be set in silver as a souvenir of this wonderful animal!. By the way: In the time of war between Sweden and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the middle of the XVII century was stolen by the Swedish and now is in Sweden.
