    I'm impressed with the point you make about the transition from shadow to light being "boring" to work on, but actually important and necessary to prioritize and to spend time on, like the supporting character, versus the fully light and dark areas as the "fun" areas to work on like the lead character. In music terms, I like to say, it's the accompanist's job to make the soloist sound good. I'm not familiar with Oleo gel. Is that like Liquin or Galkyd? Having an offscreen commentator handling questions was a good idea. Who was he? Clearly he's a knowledgeable fellow artist. Seems like you had great participation and it all went really well.

      Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Oleogel is more similar to Gamblins solvent free gel. It’s essentially linseed oil mixed with an alkyd to get it a gel consistency. The man behind the camera is my mentor and owner of East Oaks Studio, Louis Carr!

    Beautiful picture, and great vlog. I guess we all struggle with painting hands, even when they're our own!! One more quick thing about your name, then I promise I'll drop it. I've just remembered it's similar to that of the nanny from the 1970 series "Nanny and the Professor". Juliet Mills' character is usually just addressed simply as "Nanny" but her given name is mentioned in their theme song. ruclips.net/video/X9NX9a9GUzA/видео.html Looking forward to hearing great things about how your workshop went.

    This painting with the cat is so beautiful! Good job!😻I have a similar assumption about face painting. It also motivates me to finish a painting if the main motif is already good. Then the rest of the painting is easier to do after all. 🙈Omg, I'm having art block at the moment because I recently painted a face for 3 hours and all the work was erased because it didn't come out.... 😅 Good luck at the workshop!🥰

    Once suggestion about art block is to have more than one painting in the works at the same time. Most of my ideas for future paintings come while working on a different painting, and I often have to hold myself back to not abandon the painting I am working on to start the new idea. I have found that making notes and small sketches for the new idea helps it percolate until I get started on it. I normally have 2-3 paintings going at the same time and in different stages.

    • @tinafigartist
      @tinafigartist 21 день назад

      That's a great idea! I should start doing that, such a great point. Thank you for the advice! :) 💗

      @douglasriddle6447 21 день назад

      @@tinafigartist I try to mix up the subject matter. If your big work is a portrait, then do a medium size still and a small landscape study. Working on different size pieces then finish at different times, and different subjects switches your active brain up and lets your unconscious brain mull over the problems with the other pieces while you’re busy.

  • @tatianawyand

    Great video, patience and playing the long game is right! Also, don’t put yourself in a box. When I went to art school over ten years ago, I was a strictly large scale abstract oil painter and sold well enough. But now I’m exploring a new voice that intrigues me which is more representational and using various mediums. I’m going back to the basics and allowing myself to not know what I’m doing but even though it’s a bit scary, it’s also really exciting!!

    • @tinafigartist
      @tinafigartist 22 дня назад

    Your advice and observations here are incredibly valuable, even beyond the realm of people pursuing art as a career. A lot of pursuits in life call for perseverance through rough patches and slow patches. An outsider's point of view can often be invaluable!! My classical piano teacher accused me of romanticizing the pianist's life, which I think I did, and I ended up choosing a different career altogether. I heard a pianist say in IG, "Sometimes people think we are 'magical creatures' who don't have deal with things like bills." ...all to say, your insights here are a great dose of reality for anyone aspiring to a career as an artist for purely romanticized reasons. Ok, I don't think I've asked you this yet, but your name sounds really cool, almost TOO much so. You paint figures and your name kind of sounds like "figure-elli". When I first watched "Painting with Guy Palazzola" on TV, I remember thinking "He uses a palette to paint, and his name sounds kind of like 'palette-zola'. Hmm." Ok. Maybe I still haven't quite gotten over wondering if his name was just a cool sounding gimmick. (Even if it was, good on him for coming up with a name which sounds like he lives and breathes art, but I digress.) Thank you for giving us a look behind the curtain, especially during an art-blocked period. Your process and results speak for themselves.

    • @tinafigartist
      @tinafigartist 23 дня назад

      The whole “magical creatures” things so SO true, and relates to artists as well. Really any creative person. It can be so easy to put them on a pedestal and forget your favorite artists are just regular people. As far as my name comes, you’ll have to just thank my parents for that. Growing up I always disliked my name (which I feel like a lot of kids do!) but now I love it and embrace it as apart of me and my art “brand” :) I really appreciate your comments. I’m so glad this was a helpful and insightful video for you - it’s vulnerable to share which is a bit scary but worth it if people are enjoying it!

    Thank you for talking about this! Admiring my favorite artists can sometimes give the impression that they don’t experience problems like art block or poor sales at all. But it turns out that these challenges are simply part of being an artist. You are a good artist if you handle such challenges well and don’t give up. :) I am currently at the beginning of this journey. I have been studying drawing and painting for 20 years, but only approached it professionally for less than a year. Nevertheless, I often worry about my skills and my striving for perfection. I try to accept imperfections and focus more on the process, because this way I can create more work instead of constantly perfecting one piece. But just like the flaws you mentioned-it's all part of being an artist. I’m really curious about the future of this journey, and I’m going to keep at it and see where it leads. Good luck to you too! ❤

    • @tinafigartist
      @tinafigartist 23 дня назад

      This is a really lovely comment :) And so many true points! With the presence of social media it can be SO easy to make it look like things are flying off the shelves with sales when things are really not. Like any business, sales slow down and it can be a scary time. I wish you the best of luck with your journey as well 💗

      I usually wait 3-4 weeks because I use Gamvar, which allows you to varnish it when it’s dry to the touch. The varnish usually dries within 24 hours, but I usually give it an extra day if I’m going to be shipping it just so nothing sticks to it!
