It's exactly what Triumph did. First they moved the sport bikes that didn't have a large "Buy English" following, then when they saw that was going well they moved everything. I think they are going to go down the same path.

I don't know why Harley is moving some of their production to Thailand but I believe it's to avoid tariffs. The revmax engine is designed to meet current and future European emission standards. Exporting them from the USA they are stuck with high tariffs. Manufactured in Thailand they aren't imposed with the tariffs making them more competitive in those markets. That is the same reason Honda makes motorcycles in Marysville Ohio. The reason Toyota makes cars here. The M8 engine is designed more for the US market (emissions). I don't think Harley will produce them over seas anytime soon. But who knows what the future holds. I curious to how this move will affect the sales of the bikes on the revmax platform, especially the Pan America. Will US riders want them from Thailand? Will they have US tariffs on them being imported? It's all about money and market shares.

Oh well , they had it all , and when the koreans or phillipinos start production, which may improve reliability, Don will slap a foreign import tariff as with chinease cars and they will be stupidly expensive. By the way it was recently said that the Goldwing was more american than the harley, hard to believe i know. R
