I'm fascinated by filmmaking, gear, and technology and how all of these things interact with the life we live.
Converting vintage lenses into cine lenses
I'm finally converting my vintage lenses and getting them ready to use with a cinema rig. I'm cine-modding my m42 lenses, including a Helios 44m-4. I love these lenses and the mods were definitely worth it.

It is megabits per second for video, not megabytes
what camera and lens, u r using ? and what is the editing software? thank you
I’m 39 and discovered lighting & grip. Now I have dozens of lights, all this grip, sliders, backdrops, textiles… can u do a video about finding your first work as a gaffer?
Hey Jose! Really enjoyed this video! This is the first video I see where someone shows the process of making a RUclips studio setup and practically addressing the problems as they arise. Seeing you dislike something and then the steps you take to remedy it and your justification has been immensely helpful. I am about to do my own setup soon (the window will be on my left side) but your tips are still valid! Thanks! Boyan from Bulgaria 🇧🇬
Have you been able to buy the extension filter trays? I can’t seem to find them anywhere in stock.
Great video!!! Super informative and you’re very talented
Great Video Jose! You deserve a lot more views and subscribers!
Have used the mark 1 since 2016 love it. Takes great photos use it for street photography nice and small
Good video, What lens are you using here?
Thanks! I'm using a Lumix S 20-60mm. Nothing special, just the lens that came with my camera :)
I'm also looking to order this light. Can you recommend a stand and a diffuser?
video was legit bro
thanks)
having same issue and all simmod cinerings are at 77mm - which is flush across all Zeiss Contax are 77mm and the 77mm ring adaptor is next to impossible to get on - then to stay on .. Im using tape at the moment .. and I just got it - brand new - crestfallen ! :(
Thanks, great vid. Subscribed. I'm an experienced photographer but a videography newbie with much to learn. I bought an Amaran 200xS light recently and was so impressed I bought another two, plus a battery box to power one light with 2 V-mount cells. I'm excited to see how I can create good 'believable' lighting scenarios, so hope you will be showing a little more of your 'gaffing' skills in future vids.
Great ideas in a very small budget and space. It is quiet helpful for the new RUclipsers.
damn, i thought this dude was 18
Good Man! Thank you
Thinking to get the ipad mini 6 after watching this video..
Impressive set up and good points on the lighting
Hello, I bought this along with a whole rig set and I’m trying to use it with different kind of photo lenses ( Canon 85mm, 50mm ) and I keep getting error messages from the lens. Apparently it seems to be heavy for it when the lens is trying to focus. Is there any solution for that?
Nice content ! Managed to get one for very little money at a charity sell, and what i did was to took off a cold shoe from an old Zenith SLR, then glued it between the two mic holes, fortunately happens to be right above the center of the lens. Then i bought a KMZ turret viewfinder which is a variable OVF (with outstanding optical quality - the one with the barrel on the right, allowing the flash to pop) to stick on the cold shoe whenever it's needed (often actually) A RX100 MK1.5, sort of lol This + a grip, now it's THE VERY point and shoot 🤤
That would work well but I hate the idea of gluing something onto mine! 😮
Hi i loved your video thanks alot for that and i also wonder why you didn't bought m4 or m5
Really helpful, thanks.
Good job!
Thanks bro. I already have the ra-d85 and am thinking about the ra-d120 and will probably buy it after watching your video. The difference is obvious
I have it from 2013
Lovely video. My friend has been looking to up his game for Instagram reels. Just shared this video to him as its clear and concise. Keep it up :)
Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for your video dude ! you clearly deserve more views
Thank you so much!
Many Thanks, Jose! Great Work. I instantly subscribed, Bro. 😎
Thanks so much for the sub! I appreciate it!
Nice inspiring video. ❤
Thank you!
This is such a simple and great way to go about converting vintage lenses into cine lenses, wow. I love how they look. I'll be coming back around to this video when I do the same.
Yess! It makes such a difference in the usability of the lenses, and it is also super fun to do it haha
Saludos! 💯
Saludos! Gracias por el apoyo
Wouldn't you like to make a video about photo editing and how to take rx100 photos, what modes to use, etc
A honest and genuine review, thank you. Ive had my matte box for a few months and have a serious issue with turning the variable ND. It's OK turning one way and then becomes stuck turning it back. I think maybe the Nisi matte box might be better.
I'm glad you liked the video. I'm sorry to hear about your matte box, I think that's one big issue with smallrig, their quality control is not always the best. Yeah, NiSi was actually my other option, it seems really good.
Bro this is just excellent thank you! Literally addressed every point of interest and no fluff 👍🏼
I'm so glad to hear it was helpful! Thanks for the support
The color temperature of your apeture is too cool it is a daylight colour of 5600K and your practical light is around 2700-3000K. Get a Bicolor light when you can or adjust near to the practical
camera does not gets old. as long it takes good picture and tell a story.
Great video!
thanks for the tip
Love your studio Jose. You are on the RIGHT track; making it as easy as possible to create videos! I am working towards that same goal. Best of luck to your and your channel.
Thanks! Yeah it's been nice having everything ready to go. Best of luck to you too!
Buen video Jose!
Thank you so much
Loved the video, i feel the same, not 30 yet, but getting close, and i always thought i would be “successful” by now, it’s been a challenge paving my own way as a creative when my parents rather i be a doctor, but everyone’s journey is different, everything that happens to us happens for a reason. Keep going, great things in store as long as we don’t give up. Happy birthday!!!
Yeah it can be hard, but we keep growing stronger as well. Thanks for the support and I wish you the best as well. Hopefully you can look back in a couple of years and see how much you've grown.
Subbed I loved this video!
Thanks so much for the support!
Nicely done
Thanks!
Really nice video!!! :)
Thanks a lot!
Fellow creator here - just started my page 2 months ago - this is so extremely helpful! Love your stuff - keep it up!
Thank you! I'm so glad this helped you
I use this camera for underwater video (same Nauticam case what you have) with underwater wide angle lens. I like it very much : ruclips.net/video/ZixZJeO9s4M/видео.html
What quick release plate do you have?
I use a Manfrotto style quick release, something like this: amzn.to/48JeXNs . But if you already have a tripod I would recommend getting one that matches your current tripod so you don't have to switch plates every time.
Wow looks great!
Thanks!
