Rounding off the previous progress update | Metal Matters

Short update. It's been quite a while since I've been able to put down any metal, limited as it is. I'm aiming to have a video out in the next couple of weeks but there are still a couple of loose ends to take care of before tackling anything more substantial. I'll discuss those in the next video.

Hello everyone. Long time no update. Things have been progressing steadily with the printer but I have been busy with life outside of RUclips hence the lack of videos. I've decided to break this next update down into two parts as there is a lot of content to cover and we are well overdue for an update. With that said, I will be transitioning to full time work on this project in next couple of w...

Dude, you are awesome! Tenacious. I want to help message me. I have very sophisticated 3-D sla printing abilities. I can print down to 10 µm. I also worked heavily with AI and also have the hardware to run simulations quickly and run AI quickly on my own systems.😊

I didn't understand 95% of what you are doing, but I can easily tell that you should be respected for your knowledge and dedication... I only know about normal 3d printing (pla, abs, nylon and CF etc.) and I call myself a maker... But compared to you, I am a teletubbie..

Fyi, your 40-80 spine for your Nd:YAG laser is a little better than a wet noodle. The most stable lasers (of that size) that I've worked with milled a pocket for the cavity out of a 6" (150mm) block of solid aluminum. I'd personally stay with the Nd:YAG vs a fiber laser. These lasers are very durable and the large beam means it can survive 10's of Kw peak power during reflections or Q-switching. Also, I bet you're better off with a multi-mode beam. I'd bet a "top-hat" or "donut" beam profile would work best.

This is so very kiwi, a very very clever kiwi, but clearly a kiwi, nonetheless. I have a personal question for you, how many generations of kiwi are you? My great grandfather was a POHM but his WW1 widow was an ex-Auckland kiwi and I'm not sure how far back before her it went. Great work and superbly narrated and edited. I look forward to the next one. I would offer help but it's clear to me that I not only wouldn't be help, but would also just slow you down. Keep up the great work. <3

A job well done mate. Insane professional engineering for the money given. You've got some serious knowledge of optics and SLM printing. I've graduated my bachelors on experimenting with SLM printers, the second time I made a laser positioning system for my masters. The struggles I see in your video feels like a 10 of my project all cammed into one project. My respect! I hope you'll will have a lot more succes with these projects!

I keep wondering how difficult it would be to try this in a vacuum chamber. Could you keep the powder from gumming up and fusing to itself in a vacuum chamber? Given that you're using ferromagnetic metals, could you suspend particles in a vacuum using magnetic constriction? Might be an interesting thing to experiment with if you could keep powder suspended in a loop in a vacuum and use a laser to pulse it onto a surface. Perhaps calibrating the laser frequency to a multiple of the atomic vibrational frequency of the metal you're working with. Or how they managed to bring the temperature of rubidium close to absolute zero by using the inverse frequency. Probably a dumb thought, but who knows.

if you had flux on the wire, you could direct all energy on the flux. also k.i.s.s., complex systems by design are hard to implement. there is a more optimal solution to achieve the things you are now doing in a more complex way. namely SLS/SLM using the current implementation methods. copy is only a copy, not original.

'So I decided to do something challenging'... You gonna bring back the Buran program next? What an insane level of dedication man, I can't believe you never ragechucked that thing out the door. Thank you very much for putting your research out there, I'm sure this will become an iconic reference for the community. I feel inspired after this. I'm about to go beat the ever loving ---- out of a machine at a factory (that apparently manufactures frustration) and to be honest I was kind of dreading the work. Seeing you **hammer** through this gives me some motivation. I liked your weld idea, that was cool! You really answered some questions for me on why messing with powder is worthwhile, I'd say so for the reasons demonstrated with leveling and such. At least you have the spare parts lying around to build your country a laser missile defense system :D I hope you earn your money back soon.
