Australian $1 Not intended for circulation coins
Просмотров 32614 дней назад
Not intended for circulation coins are produced by the Royal Australian Mint, largely to commemorate or recognise special events or achievements. They are all legal tender but of course not use or transactions because they cost more than their face value. Some of these coins are highly collectible with price to match.

I’m enjoying these NIFC videos mate. Lots of coins that I never knew existed. And likely out of my price range. 😂
I am glad you are enjoying them. I will soon be making some videos about how some of these coins have fared as investments. The price of these coins vary greatly but quite a few are reasonably affordable in my opinion.
@@kevcump62 looking forward to it. Thanks Kev.
I have one of those coin how much is it worth
How do I find out how much is it worth
If it’s NOT. Wavy, it’s worth 20c because millions of them were minted. If it is a wavy the best I can suggest it to check eBay for similar coins that have been sold recently.

Why does the fifty cent coin have twelve sides? Why not ten? Much more decimal!
Why have a decagon when you can have a dodecahedron. Interesting question. The first Australian 50 Cent coin was of course round that that didn’t work out well because it was confused with the 20c coin. The mint had to go with a new shape. I don’t know for sure why the 12 sided coin was chosen But I know making sure coins were suitable for vending machines was a consideration. I suspect at 12 sided coin rolls just a little better than a 10 sided one.
@@kevcump62 The 50p coin used in the UK has seven sides and works in vending machines. The 20p coin also has seven sides. Yes, I agree that the original, round, Australian 50 cents was not much bigger than a 2/- (later 20 cent) coin. Even though it was 80% silver, originally, that did not make it much different to look at. Australia never had a half-crown, although New Zealand did. There were, of course, sometimes problems distinguishing a half-crown from a 2/- coin.
Everything you said is true. I do not quite understand why the Brits went for the 7 sided coin for the 50p. What I do know is that the 7 sided arrangement for that coin was decided on after one of the people who was on the team making the decisions was some kind of engineer who had the smarts to work out a seven sided coin would roll well and work in vending machines. I agree, it makes perfect sense that our 50c coin should have been 10 sided to match up with the metric system, BUT with one proviso. If someone worked out using geometry and other engineering principles that it was more practical to go with the 12 sided coin, then I am prepared to go with the science. I am just glad we did not copy the British because I think our 50c coin is more elegant than the 7 sided British contemporary. Thanks for your comment. I love this stuff!
@@kevcump62 Thank you - yes, the twelve side, scallop edged Australian 50 cents looks more aesthetically pleasing. The 50p, of course, is worth twice as much. The modern 50p is much smaller than the original 50p, of course. We need a complete recoinage now. New Zealand had a radical recoinage. The 10 cent coin was reduced to the size of a 1 cent coin and made of copper. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins were withdrawn.

And there is even more to collect in the years that follow. That video is coming up shortly 😊
I’ve only recently discovered these 2 sets. Would love to buy them, but yep, pricey!!
There are some cheaper, slightly smaller Holden and Ford 50c sets available from the following few years. You might like to check them out.

6:13 is that a 10p coin?
Are you referring to the fifth coin down in the stack? If you are, you are a very observant person! And close enough to being correct for me to be impressed. The stack is made from Australian 5c coins. The stray I think you have spotted is a 2005 five pence. 👍
@@kevcump62 That's the one I was thinking of, thanks. The UK coins are very nice :)
Very nice ❤ thanks
Cool video! Any chance we can get a video for the mintages of the NIFC years like the 87, 89,90,91, 07 and 12 MoR. I’ve found it so hard to find mintages for these, aswell as those from the other denominations
I understand where you are coming from as it can be difficult, as you say, to find mintage numbers for - Not Intended For Circulation Coins. As it happens, I do have some information on this so a video on this is definitely on the cards. If this video goes ok I will definitely do the same for other denominations. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍
shame we cant even trust the mint to get it right, but by jingoes if u get your tax return wrong, watch out!!
Truth!
Thank you so much ❤❤
You are so welcome. I was not sure people would like this one but it looks to be doing ok so far👍

Hi Kev, I'm sure most coin collector are a wise up to the fakes but as they say buyer beware just buy from the Mints or Coin Dealer. cheers. Stephen
Yes, I sometimes cast a wide net. This one is more directed at the new collector who might not be aware of some of the shenanigans that go on.😀
@@kevcump62 ....i have three of those raised 2012 poppy coins, did not know they came without the red colour...
What gets me is that there is half a million red poppies , that’s a massive mintage . The Perth kookaburras are 300K plus for most of them yet they get just over melt and are solid silver . It’s just a party for resellers , how many coin collectors do you think there are in Australia.
I completely understand what you are saying because 500,000 seems a lot but there are a few reasons. The most important being that the coin was actually circulated. People got them in their change in the day and thought, “that’s different”. People just put them aside even if they were not collectors as such. A scarce but recognisable circulated coin will always trump an uncirculated coin.
I have this coin
Thanks so much for sharing ❤❤
I have some Australian queen Elizabeth coins I'm from south africa I have 20c 10c and 5c and one dollar and two dollar coins from 1974 1980 1988 2006 and 20ll.and I also have a 1939 3d south African coin and a Netherlane coin 1970 is it worth selling

Zdravo imam novcic od 20 jedan od 10 dva
There are some counterfeited 1930 pennies that are so good, even the Royal Australian Mint was fooled by one such fake. I've handled and examined a fake 1930 penny that could only be identified under extreme magnification. The penny itself was geniune but it wasn't a 1930. Most likely it was a 1936 dated penny where the 6 had been removed and an 0 had been hard fixed to the penny. The shape of the 0 was right but you could make out a tiny remnant of solder and distinct scrape marks where the excess solder had been removed. X-ray showed the solder line.
It's worth noting that the red poppy $2 coin and the circulation issue gold poppy $2 coin reverses were struck from two distinctly different dies. The gold poppy die has the raised gold poppy centre whereas the dies used to strike the red poppy dont have the raised poppy design. The micro wording on the red poppy $2 coin is covered by the red paint that was used. There were also two carded types for the red poppy $2 coin. The RAM carded issue and the R.S.L carded issue. It's the R.S.L carded issue you want. All 3 have secondary market value ranges.
Thanks again for a terrific comment. Your comments are so on point that you have inspired me to make my next video about these dissimilarities and how they can be used to identify “Nail polish Poppies” for people new to the hobby.👍
Got my 2 Cs that's enough, just kick back on the original now. Let's face it, ppl will put their own spin on coloured $2 coin's. But these bloke's are the first edition's.
They sure are
I have red poppy $2coin which the the paint of the red poppy coming of Is there a problem?
yes
It definitely reduces the value of the coin, if that is what you mean but it is far from uncommon. Many 2012 Red Poppies were circulated and got knocked around a fare bit resulting in damage including the loss of pigment. Having said that, having an imperfect Poppy is better than having no Poppy at all.
Still worth 2 bucks atleast I suppose 😂
I have a 1919 half penny what is it worth
Check eBay recent sales of this coin
Thankfully, i have examples of all mint marked Australian pre-decimal silver coins. The only 3pence(pronounced thrip-pence) i don't have in my 3pence collection is the 1922/21 overdate. That's not for lack of trying either. I missed out on acquiring an example at both auctions and from dealers, all of whom have "wants" lists. One day... one day.
That’s terrific Bruce. I really like your informative and interesting contributions. It sounds like you have an impressive collection.
