Isle Royale National Park is LIFE

Welcome to ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK IS LIFE, your one-stop place for everything Isle Royale, and more!
I'm passionate about this incredible island and want to share my love with you. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just dreaming of a visit, I've got something for everyone.
My love for Isle Royale began when I first visited way back in July of 2000, and I have had the fortune to work there for the last three summers. I had always been drawn to the wilderness, and Isle Royale offered the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in nature's beauty.
Over the course of 25 years, I hiked its trails, camped in its forests, and kayaked its waters. I learned about its history, its ecology, and its wildlife. And I fell deeply in love with this place.

Population Two: 23 Days of SOLITUDE on ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK
My twin brother Ray and I spent 23 days in the spring of 2024 on Isle Royale. The park officially opens on April 16th. Lake and ice conditions can sometimes delay the first crossing until early May. Lucky for us, we had a mild winter. We arrived at the island on the first chance that Lake Superior would let us, April 21st!
No ferries companies begin operations until the first Voyaguer II trip on May 11, and the ferry Isle Royale Queen IV on May 13th.
We did not see another person (besides NPS staff) or another boat for the first 21 days!
We occupied shelter #2 in Rock Harbor for the entire 23 days. We made plans to get away from Rock Harbor, but an ankle injury kept us close to camp.

Nice camera angles. Appreciate that you let the park do the talking
Very cool!
Totally Awesome!😎
Thanks! 😁
yes it's eerily beautiful though now i must say!
Monument Rock looked much better before the horne fire
Ray for the win! I am loving hearing y'all's yooper speech!
Yes, you must be talking about the bench in front of the Dassler Cabin! You couldn't find a better seat! Oh that view!
Wonderful! My favorite spot is the northern end of Scoville Point. On the northern end of the cove is a small shack and a bench to sit down, overlooking the water. I've spent hours there just relaxing and enjoying the view. Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful place.
Thank you to whoever took the time and spent the effort on filming this beautiful hike!
You're welcome! I love the exposed ridges on the Greenstone Ridge Trail. This section was near the Duncan Bay Portage Trail.
Majestic

Nice catch!
He’s pretty strong
Oh yes he is! He had a huge backpack and also 2 aldi style bags he was carrying. He hiked from Windigo to Rock Harbor barefoot.
500 different foot fungus species liked that
Would a ferry of this size have indoor heating?
i dont believe they have heat on the ferry
Awesome. I spent a week on the island. Walking the trails was great, but going off the trails was incredible.
Back Country is the best way to go!
My Dylestic ahh thought it said "northern lights ancient isle"
Very nice presentation on the honers, new flags installed at Rock harbor, right where the pavilion was supposed to be built. Darn😢
It is a shame about the pavilion, but I'm glad they were able to get the new flagpole installed in such a beautiful location.
@ flagpoles take up much less area then a pavilion that is needed in rock hbr during bad weather (no place to hang out and stay dry)really sad,I knew it was too good to be true to construct something to protect the hikers and such
Beautiful thank you for sharing, as sad as life can b sometimes it's things like this that we see how the things like this brings some happiness
Neat video Rob. Loved it! Glad you made it back safely. See you next spring!😊
Always in good hands with Capt. Aaron!
Yes, see you in the spring!

Cow moose?
So beautiful ,one lucky person to be able to see that.
thanks, I do cherish my time on the island, and I get out in the woods as much as i can
Sometimes I really felt like I was the first person to see these things. We saw moose everyday.
I didn't see a moose this year in the last 3 months i was there. Mostly due to the increased wolf activity. I saw a wolf 13 times over the course of that same 3 months. go figure! lol
@ISLEROYALENATIONALPARKISLIFE I was there more than 20 yrs. ago. Saw no wolves, some scat. Is it normal for the wolf/ moose ratio to fluctuate?
@indioloco6600 oh definitely normal. Typically its more wolves, the fewer moose. The fewer yhe wolves, the more moose there are. Right now the balance is approximately 31 wolves and 750 oor so moose. 2019 there were 2 wolves and moose were above 2000
@ISLEROYALENATIONALPARKISLIFE Thanks
Such a magical place. Saw moose everyday.
I wish this was 3+ hrs long for sleep sounds.
Now we're talking!
This is just the best. Takes me back. You should get permission to use Sinatra's Luck Be a Lady for the video. Your lucky fishing song.
Very beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.
I love watching the water shimmer!
Ray, look for a job no more. You ARE a symphony conductor!
