Some unexpected magic, for sure!

@philosoFreedomGaming I do everything on original hardware, as proof of concept. -- 27" Magnavox CRT TV, 1997 New Style SNES (SNS-101), and original SNES cartridges & controllers. All of the glitches and game genie codes, all of the tricks and strategies, all can also be done on Emulator if a US ROM is used. Almost all of the Exit Glitches do not work on Japanese version. This game genie stuff is just for fun, and not a part of the official RTA Speedrunning series.

@FelipeKariri If you watch several speedrunning documentaries on the Super Mario franchise by notable creators like Summoning Salt, Bismuth, and Kosmic, you will frequently hear references to glitches that cause the game to read data from the wrong address in memory, sometimes from an overflow. There's also a thing called Arbitrary Code Execution, or ACE, where your inputs can manipulate the data. I believe that a lot of this stuff is some combination of the above. I'm not an expert on programming, code, or decompiling; so I don't personally have the ability to explain exactly what's happening. From my perspective, I make observations, look for consistent results, and make adjustments to see how many different outcomes I can cause. A lot of these effects seem to coincide with the descriptions of some very obscure Game Genie Codes, such as manipulating graphics, collision detection, etc. The two types that are of the most interest to me are setups that cause a Warp, so that I can skip levels and beat the game faster, and setups that manipulate collision detection, so that I can run or jump through closed gates and beat individual levels faster. The two best cases for these have been developed into official speedrunning categories: one where you can use Warp & Collision to beat the game in under 7 minutes; and a "beat every level" category where you can beat the game in under 23 minutes without skipping any levels. Most of these older glitch videos are just for fun. The more serious glitches have been rolled into establishing the best routes for the Glitch speedrunning categories.

It worked out though, because with my hands free, I was able to belt out an extra long scream that got Mikael Akerfeldt's attention, and he kept asking me for another scream throughout the show, and called my "Harry Belafonte." 🤣 If you do a RUclips search for Opeth Demon Fall & filter by upload date, there's a decent one from Denver, two days after our show, that was just uploaded earlier today.

@@stickflip4308 more to come, maybe. I took several long videos at their 2020 Dallas show, just before the Lock Down. I hadn't uploaded them yet for several reasons, including not being satisfied with the quality of the phone camera I had at the time. But now that I have a god set of videos here, I don't mind going back & archiving the others.

Lol. You went right on top of my head a couple of times during Gatecreeper. You gave me a couple of big shoves, too. 😆 I was the guy in the middle that kept getting called out for the long screams. "This guy wins the award for longest scream." 🤣 Kinda wish I'd taken more videos of Gatecreeper, but I was really feeling it. Reminded me of the good ol' days at 1919, where Gatecreeper mentioned playing at. I took a selfie with Chad Green after the show, and asked him about that. He said, "Oh Hell Yeah, I was AT that 1919 show!!" (when Gatecreeper played there.) Man, what a great night. I'm all the way in, next time Frozen Soul comes to town.

@summerallen4793 upload it! Sounds fun. I've got a couple of funny action videos in the circle pit on my channel. Dark Tranquility 2024 "Lost to Apathy," and Insomnium 2024 "Only One Who Waits" & "Primeval Dark." I bruised a couple of ribs at the Insomnium show. 😭 😂 Also caught some fantastic crowd surfing shots in my Emperor 2023 video "Ensorcelled + Loss & Curse."

@@summerallen4793 Did you happen to fall and hit the ground during one of your surfs? There was one girl that I picked up to surf, and she fell shortly after (I had already done my part, she was well past my reach at that point).

Haha. This is too funny. We both do metal shows, speedruns, and DDR. I'm actually mostly retired from DDR now. I was in my prime in 2005 / 2006 when In The Groove 2 was the latest thing. I can still AAA the old DDR-7 stuff, but my feet don't move fast enough for 165+ bpm 16ths anymore. I've got a video on my channel from a couple years ago where I scraped together a pass on Legend of Max. But I just don't think I'm ever gonna get back into peak condition again. Used to be able to fly through Pandemonium without breaking a sweat. If you really wanna push your feet, see if you can find an ITG2 machine, and load up Windeu's Stamina Killer steps for Monolith. @@AkumaAPN Lmao, crazy coincidence. My DDR accuracy is awful, and I'd have no chance at AAA anything or PFC'ing anything on modern DDR. I'm good at stamina and tech, so ITG might be up my alley. SNES was one of my childhood consoles, so it's cool seeing those games speedran. Never played Prince of Persia, but I'll check it out.

@andrewpatterson3662 You can build up your accuracy on slower songs. Back in 2004 / 2005, before I got all the way up to my best, I would stomp out some easy songs in between hard ones to cool off or catch my breath. No bar & feel the rhythm to improve balance & timing. Back in the DDR-5 to DDR-7 days, difficulty was measured on a 1-10 scale with 10 being hardest, and I'd AAA 7-8's, and a few 9's. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the new scale. Maybe these would be in the 10-13 range now. Top tier difficulty steps like today's 18's & 19's didn't really exist on a large scale back then. So we'd only have a few opportunities to grind that level of difficulty. I'm sure Pandemonium would be rated an 18-19 on the modern scale. It was rated 13 on the old 1-10 scale. Lol. Windeu's Stamina Killer for Monolith would probably be rated 19-20. That one was brutal! 🤣 If you don't already, you should follow @iamchris4life for further inspiration. He's rolling through the game, getting 4 & 5 star ratings on every song. Haha.

@aphexGIBA It's a 27" Phillips Magnavox CRT TV that I've been using for SNES & N64 since the 90's. Used to have 2, so they wouldn't get worn out, but one of them has since burned out. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one lasts a good while longer. There are quite a few videos on this channel where you get a very good look at the TV, mostly my Prince of Persia World Record speedruns, where I show the setup to prove it was done without Game Genie or TAS hookup.

Yes, indeed! Adair's Salloon in Dallas! When I rediscovered these videos about 2 years ago (September 2022), I could not for the Life of me remember where this place was, or the name. But I carefully watched the videos, and at one point I could see a sign on the business across the street when the front doorway was in view. I looked up the business, and did a Google Street View to look back the other way, and sure enough, Adair's!! Lol.

@Dalibre1 It's pretty old. I don't recall ever downloading a new version in the past 15+ years. Probably v3.9. I'll have to take a look later. I did all my step-writing on SM back in 2004-2006. More videos to come, to preserve my work. Lol.
