Exploring the endangered archaeological site of Teotihuacán
Historian and guide Jane Kadala takes us through Teotihuacán, a massive Classical-era archaeological site 50 miles northeast of Mexico City, which was once one of the largest cities in the world. But Teotihuacán is more than just its famous Necropolis or Pyramids of the Sun and Moon - as Jane Kadala explains, much of this site is still unexplored and in grave danger from treasure hunters and those who would destroy its ancient structures for personal gain.

Exploring the Maya world in Teobert Maler's footsteps
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.Год назад
A new book wraps up photographer William Frej's 45-year-long project. "Maya Ruins Revisited" documents William Frej's search for remote Maya sites, primarily in Guatemala and Mexico, inspired in large part by the work of German-Austrian explorer Teobert Maler 100 years before him. Many of Frej's photos are juxtaposed with Maler's to reveal changes in the landscape. Yucatán Magazine editor Carlo...

Google maps says temporarily closed. Are they opened now?
Nice vid.
👍
Sad that you can’t climb the pyramids anymore :( Might as well go to the nearby Walmart for coffee and see them through the window…
That man should be in prison for life Destroying places like this for an amusement park is absolutely disgusting
I just saw your interview with Jose Arteaga so glad he interviewed you.
These are not the men who should be host these topics. Stop trying to make money off of other peoples culture. Culture Vultures are disgusting!
Thank you! Fascinating.
Top tip: don’t go. It’s built in modern times. These aren’t ancient ruins, the stones you’re seeing are laid in modern times. You can literally see them building or “restoring” other buildings at the site using freshly cut stones. It’s a tourist trap. Visit a museum or just see a documentary on mayans instead. You’re really not missing anything. There are actual ancient ruins elsewhere in Mexico that are much cheaper to visit with less tourists.
What is the current entry fee at chichen itza for general admission non mexican citizens? I am getting conflicting information. Some tour guides say the entry is included in their tour fees and it seems to me very low compared to the entry fee listed on the website.
Just went there today. It's a war zone of vendors. And the guys that are cutting away at something making it look hand made, it's fake. Its all for show.
Mmmmmm❤❤
followed the link to print the recipe, and I didn't find anything.
Ugh I can’t believe my country decided to make this horrendous dish our patriotic choice 😂🤮
Nada que ver con la receta original 😩👎
Thank you so much for sharing as my father was from the city Merida of Yucatán who had immigrated to the US.
Very interesting! Thank you~
Amazing
I need to see this next time I'm in Merida
This reminds me of the aerial videos that are shown in some restaurants on their TVs.

Carriage should make a comeback but without horses, it will boost tourism. The horse is going to retire and get sick more often? Convert the carriages into motorized ones.
Subscribed!!! Damn! Pete is bald and bearded as me. hahahahahah
What an amazing story! I would love to hear more about him and the discoveries in the cave he made.
Thank you for this well documented and incredibly informative video.
I live in Mérida as well and travel to several archaeological sites. I have no degrees in these subjects but I’ve visited archaeological sites from Bolivia and Peru to here and the USA. Would love to join up with your group if you come and visit. I’ve probably only been to about 50-100 sites in Mexico so my journey has just started. Hope you get down here soon. Thanks for everything you do with your channel!
The Indian Ed program needs to use some of Pete’s videos on pre-Columbian American history. The Indian Ed program wasn’t very good in the early 2000s when I was going to school.
Amazing video!!! Incredible guest with good insight 😊
Compassion for animals is beautiful. We will do better for animals,.To the girl of the video, animal abuse is not fun.To the person that make this video you can get a recording of horse "clumping"" to relax your loving nature soul in the middle of traffic. No problemo.
Mi.mejor y mas grande amiga vive alla saludos a,todos en Yacatan!!!-,Thanks a lot for your knowledege and your hard job!!!-Blessings from Jalisco,Mexico!!!!
No sabía que el tres colchas hablara tan bien el inglés.
jejejeje creo que no entendi la referencia, pero bueno.
I'm really curious about the smell of the ocean along the beach to the west of the Pier. As of March 2023, it smells really bad and I noticed the water to the East of the Pier is cleaner and does not smell. My greatest fear is that the water is contaminated by sewage as the West end is downwind of the Pier which is where cruise ships dock...
Oh man, We gotta get him to Mexico ASAP!
Maybe its time to think about hosting a Pete/Carlos tour of the region eh?

Thanks for watching!
Instantly subscribed. This looks like a great channel. Also it's suprising to learn Pete has a face
Thanks for the sub!
Ya Ancient Americas is great, really lucky that I stumbled on it back when it's sub count was much lower. It definitely deserves the attention it's getting.
Appreciate Pete’s work. Thanks.for the great interview.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I learned about Olmecs at a young age because our town's "sister city" in Mexico sent us a life-size reproduction of a head; it sat in front of the police station.
In wich country do you live, if i may ask?
@@dapeider1418 From his name, probably Italy....
No, not Italy, just plain old boring-ass America... My folks are from Italy, but I was born in lame backwards southern Caca-California... Covina, Los Angeles county... We ran away from there back in '92.
By "head", I mean "a monumental Olmec head-shaped sculpture", approx 10' wide × 8' tall, and it was not the real thing, of course; probably made from concrete in a mold... But, it was still really interesting, and it got me interested in Mexican history... I live in Carson City NV now, and our sister city is San Sebastian in the Basque county/Euskal Herria (technically "Spain", but it's its own place)
@@carloszenteno 🤗 you got the Italian part correct, but no, I'm just another dull American. 😐
For sure, Ancient Americas is a GREAT channel; the Nezahualcoyotl episode is one of the best "Aztec" videos I've ever seen! So cool to find out more about Pete, and I'm looking forward to exploring Yucatán Magazine 👍!
Wow, thanks!
@ thank you! I already "binge-watched" all the videos on your channel... good stuff! Looking forward to the next episode! 🇺🇲 actually does ❤️🇲🇽, believe it or not.
Looks like a lotta fun!!
