This is an explanation about generating variants, or alternatives, on two scale levels: that of the city, and that of the building. This is done using parts of the book "The Place of Houses" by Charles Moore, Gerald Allen and Donlyn Lyndon.

    Anyone, can someone define in layman term what is a "Spatial Concepts".

    • @baustudio1351
      @baustudio1351 3 года назад

      Think of a typical museum of fine arts (Louvre in Paris, British Museum in London): many rooms, directly connected to each other - you go directly from one room to the next, a sequence (or even network) of rooms (concept 1, a matrix of spaces). Then, imagine a typical school building: classrooms, which you reach via a corridor - two types of spaces, circulation space, and spaces to dwell (concept 2, separate circulation space). Then, imagine one big space in which many different activities can happen at the same time - maybe an airport terminal, or a big church building, some museums (Centre Pompidou in Paris, Neue Nationalgallerie in Berlin): a different 'spatial concept' again - one big 'flowing' space containing many 'places' (concept 3). If you want to, as a last example, a bit of an evergreen for architects maybe, look up the Barcelona Pavilion by architect Mies van der Rohe: many spaces, or rooms, or places (I think you can call them all these words) flowing into each other, hard to distinguish clear boundaries: 'interpenetrating spaces' (concept 4). A nice book about all this is, in my view, 'Architecture - Form, Space and Order' by Francis D.K. Ching. Does this make sense?

    So many little issues. I guess I'm going to have to look further to see who this guy is. (Hopefully not college level. Hopefully not practicing. Why is he teaching?! (Just for one before I get too frustrated, little things, 8:26/11:21 - Draws tree in relation to side elevation... so wrong im angry, maybe he resolves the reason as I watch further...)
