Making Pecan Rounds /Cookies with the Woodland Mills HM130Max
We did this little project for fun, just to see if we could do it. It worked well but there is room for improvement if we ever need to do this for a real.

American Standard Shower Valve Water Hammer Fix
Просмотров 133 тыс.9 лет назад
If your American Standard shower mixing valve is causing water hammer this video will show you how to fix the problem. In the beginning I tried water hammer arrestors which didn't work. I also made sure all air was bled from the piping which didn't work. I then set out to find a way to defeat the pressure regulator in the valve cartridge. In older homes with old galvanized piping the hot water ...

    Wow! Thank you so much. I've been trying to get this fixed for over a year and was about to give up and just pay the outrageous plumber price to get a whole new shower. This was perfectly explained and easy to follow. I searched for fixes many times before and never saw this video. So glad I tried 1 last search. Thanks again for taking the time to help so many people.

    American Standard will send you a new water balance cartridge and maybe a new cartridge. Remember to use plumbers silicone in reassembly..

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. I don't understand why American Standard does not remove these seals on the cartridge in the updated version. They have to know its a design flaw at this point and they don't seem to be needed in the cartridge for it to work properly.

    I just got a sawmill. I have cut a few logs. I have hit one nail but I will be cutting higher risk trees soon. I actually have those two metal detectors. Can you give any updates on their effectiveness in finding metal and any things you have learned, such as limitations? Thanks in advance.

    • @roestreet
      @roestreet Год назад

      So far, when we use the metal detectors we haven't hit anything. The only limitations we found is the depth that any particular detector will go. The easy work around is to detect the side of the log your going to start on. After you make cuts down to the depth of the detectors capabilities, stop and scan again. Its a little inconvenient but it has already saved a blade or two for us. The pinpointer comes in handy when you get close to the last cuts because its easier not to pick up the metal in the sawmill itself. Hope this helps. Let me know if I left anything out

    Thank you for this video. Very well explained. I was getting ready to cut holes in the wall. I thought there was loose pipes in the wall rattling or something. I am on a well so the pressure goes up and down throughout the shower. It is very frustrating. I am going to tackle this tomorrow. Thanks again.

Thank you for putting this video together and explaining and demonstrating the resolution in such a clear and easy way.

  • @KennedyLawOfficesScranton

    why not just replace the cartridge?

    • @roestreet
      @roestreet 2 года назад

      Replacing the cartridge will not fix the water hammer issue. The problem is the substantial imbalance of pressure between the hot and cold water in older homes. The cartridge has to be modified so that it will not try and balance those pressure differences. These work fine in newer homes that have even pressures.

    Thanks for your trouble shooting tutorial. I was affected by the shower hammer also. Wow, it was so NOISY! After taking out the mixing valve I noticed that granular debris was partialing blocking the the inlet to the valve mixer. In addition, the hot water mini blue backflow preventer was clogged also . I used compressed air to blow it out. I was going to replace the unit because it but it was going to take a couple of days. Until then, I just cleaned up the pressure balance unit up and lubed up the "0" ring with silicone grease and reassembled the unit. I also bought a new shower head. Most likely that debris came from my new whole house filtration system that I had installed 10 days earlier. The granules looked liked the carbon bed material that normally would would just remained in place but got agitated and went through the system post filter. I also checked in my crawl space to see if any water pipe clamps that need to be more secure. So far so good.
