"You're my Sliver Lining of Love" recorded 20/6/1929 USA
One of those songs that is instantly recognisable as the quintessence of American 1920s music! Cheers!
Is it russian?!
Sorry I missed the 20s but I did come along in time for the Great Depression. Love the music, though.
This was an all black orchestra from the US playing in the blackbird's revue.. Apparently they were a big hit.
😊❤ Sweet Old Times !...
It still sounds like an acoustic recording to me.
Good music for silent rom-coms
Nice tune. I've not heard this one before. Keep the great videos coming. 👍🏻
Great grand dads entertainment center making music totally "green" with no electricity. No recharging batteries, just wind it up and go! Thankyou for playing the nice old dance record! Your Victrola was the popular brand back in the day! Sounds good. 🎶
Shades of the "New Vaudeville Band! :-)
Delightfully Danceable 1920's Tune!
Sam Lanin
The orchestra is good and the surface noise is average.
Really appreciate these good quality old recordings, thanks.
In spite of the record being well played, the fidelity comes through.
The record is well worn. It's hard to fairly assess the performance.
😂😅
I believe mar/25 elect started
The fidelity is unusually good, in spite of average surface noise. It sounds like an early electrically recorded record. I suppose this was the very beginning of it.
Wunderbar!
Is this one acoustically recorded?
Felicidades por la música y la presentación que le hicieron en un tornamesa antiguo 😊
Somehow the record's label doesn't match the description written here.
This song was composed by Willard Robison, and his version (backed only by his own piano) is the best. But this is a quite nice dance version. Incidentally Robison came from a family of ministers and wrote this song as an attack on all the nasty people in the 1920's who were calling jazz "the devil's music" (sound familiar?). I'm only sorry this record doesn't include a vocal, because the lyrics are beautiful: "Just like a string bean needs a pole/You need good music to brighten up the soul."
Hal Swain is hardly in the same league as Ethel Waters, who introduced this song in the 1929 musical "On With the Show," but his band plays well and this is a quite peppy dance version and a lot of fun.
Black is beautiful ❤
Fine record.....
The orchestra is good and so is the tune. The surface noise is average.
I suspect Seger Ellis is playing guitar as well as singing. Brian Rust says the "Tampa Blue 5" was a pseudonym for Johnny Hamp's Kentucky Serenaders.
Actually the above is wrong. It was Charles W. Hamp, "The California Blue Boy," that Rust said "The Tampa Blue 5" was a pseudonym for, though Rust only lists two of their records as jazz items and Ellis is on neither of them.
Brian Rust was a lazy and inaccurate researcher in many cases. Since Rust, most of the researchers did their due diligence and I'm glad of it.
The orchestra is good and so is the song. However, the record was not well treated, but the fidelity through most of the record is good with average surface noise. The phonograph was accustical which diminished the record, even though the recording was electrical.
Originally released on {American} Columbia 689-D.
I love this tune and the movie it's in. It is sung by Mary Eaton in the 1929 movie "Glorifying the American Girl". No foolin'.
This is the Savoy Orpheans band..Herb Finney was the bands trombone player.
Morton actually led a band in Chicago for live dates and some touring but this is not it. Like Louis Armstrong's Hot Five. Morton got this group together for Victor record dates to compete with Armstrong's Okeh sides. For this Dec. 16,1926 date the group was Morton,p-vcl-ldr; George Mitchell,c; Kid Ory,trb; Omer Simeon,cl; Johnny St. Cyr, bj-g; John Lindsey,sb;Andrew Hilaire,d. All the musicians were from New Orleans except Mitchell who was from Louisville.
Lovwly aong and recording. To think no eletrixity was used in the record of the rexord. All horn.
Yes it's an acoustic record..Electrical recordings started in late May 1925 in UK.
Looks like a No 4 Soundbox - excellent sound!
Thanks, boss. This is the best. cd
It's crazy how this is 100 years old
Чудесно!❤
❤
Bahut sundar thank Charan thanks 🙏..............................🛕🚩🌹
MUITO BOM! raridade fonográfica"!
Lovely tune and arrangement.
Almost unrecognisable from the fast hot version by Sydney Firmans BBC band
All unsold Piccadilly records were bought in bulk by Currys, pasted over and resold or given away with a sales item in their stores.
I can glad the zat playing the music.
Old is Gold. Great one.
Neat little jazz number. I am guessing this is Harry Hudson's band? Nice banjo work.
Would you consider selling this side?
This is an American recording by Nathan Glantz & his Orchestra with vocalist Arthur Fields.
I was walking away, but as soon as I heard Arthur Fields' voice, I knew I had to comment. Thanks for listing the correct information.
