I don't get why y'all love him so much. He didn't do much as a president. Like me US history teachers said that he's so unimportant that they didn't really have to say much about him. I mean he seems like a good guy with good common sense, but still, in the grand scheme of things he didn't do much.

I completely and thoroughly disagree with Gramm. Countries and individuals DO get into trouble and go broke by creating too much money, and spending too much money. Not being able to service it is simply the effect. There's ALWAYS a first domino, and printing too much is that first domino i.e. the ENABLER of all thereafter. I find it interesting that he makes the statement about countries and individuals re the creation of money not being the problem, and then goes immediately into Obama's etal spending which is nothing more than one end of the creation cycle. Creating too much money enables the real culprit which is unwise human behavior for most people. I love Gramm and all the others though, and this is such a fantastic video.

I think I read in Edward Chancellor's The Price of Time that in certain jurisdictions back in the day, that if a bank became insolvent, the bank's CEO was sentenced to death ... Now if that were the case now, how many banks would need bailouts, ever?

Its a very important lesson on how democracies destroy themselves. They are always toppled from inside, Athens imploded themselves so did Vaishali - the first republic. America will follow up. I don't see it surviving for more than 60 years.

Coolidge was undoubtedly one of the best presidents of the 20th century.

I taught American History for 26 years and I learned more in this presentation about the 1924 presidential election than I ever knew. Outstanding show.

Coolidge took great care of the very wealthy, mostly by doing nothing. He got the working classes persevering, And the economy went crashing down. The New deal, GI Bill, and Land Grant Universities are what gave the US the boom of the 50s. All economies have socialism and capitalism. The 20s were a great increase in consumerism, just like today. When the host says "The Securities might have had a bubble." as an economist I ask myself why he isn't doing stand up comedy. .

Calvin Coolidge was THE EXEMPLARY PRESIDENT. For being BORN on the Fourth of July, is why he brings a tear to this eye. Out of them all that fact made him AS UNIQUE and oh how he did live up to THAT lofty calling.
