How to replace valve stem seals on a 99-04 Mustang gt
Просмотров 41 тыс.4 года назад
How to replace valve stem seals on a 99-04 mustang (WITHOUT AN AIR COMPRESSOR) If your mustang has oil burning issues mainly sitting at idle and you tap the gas and smoke puffs out the back, more than likely your valve stem seals are shot and worn out. As you can tell in the video my seals were greatly expanded over stock and allowing oil to slip trough. I replaced the seals with new seals off ...
Thank you for this bro. 💯
did you have a tick noise before replacing them?? did ot go away after
nope no tick i remember, you could have more of like a tapping noise from the timing chain guides if they are stock. they fail and start to break apart
@@trbuilt5181 hm, mine sounds like a tick/tapping sound but i can only hear it when i accelerate and ive read many things on what it could be , ill check that out tho
Great video! Going to have to do mine soon I think
make sure you do timing chains while your in there!
How are you keeping the valves from falling in ?
Hey man do I need to remove the cams or can I do it with the cams intact ? Never done any engine work like that
yes i would remove the cams but sone other people will tell you you don’t have to
I know this is 3 years old but the car looks awesome by the way. An wonder what seats you went with an where did you cop thanks
thoes were Braum Elite series seats in British’s tan!
That’s clean bro I’d do that to mine
Post more about this!!🔥🔥
More content is on the way!
Nice brother🎉😊
Sweet ride dude but I thought it was 8s in the 1/4. Still good times but a different hit so to speak.
I just did this. It's true, for a 4.6 you don't need to use a rope or compressed air. Just rotate the piston to the cylinder you're working on to TDC. There is no need to remove the camshafts but you do need to remove the camshaft girdles and you will need a special tool to push down on the valves to remove the keepers. That said if you're going this far to replace the valve stems you might as well install new valve springs. OEM is 7$ each or go with the upgraded beehive PAC springs.
yep the only thing i regret is not putting in some good valve springs so it would be easier to drop in cams in the future
When i saw that static stance i was like "damn that would be nice to have some bags on that" then the bags hit me ❤🤘
Great video but i itw wouldve been nice to see hiw you remove cams
You need to make more videos because you explain everything perfect in every detail
Nothing like getting a gasoline bath... Don't like changing those. Great work & video
Excellent video. Great filming, clear picture & also explaining every step you were doing. Very nice tool to remove the valve springs too
THIS IS 4.6 CORRECT?
How long did it take you ?
Can this be done without removing cam?
hell no it cant
@@seanmckay3392 just vavle seal on mustang gt without removing cams
How can I tell if my cylinder is top dead center. I know you used the two straws but I need more clarification.
Can they be done with out removing cams?
if im doing valve seals im doing a stage 2 cam
Bro I buzzed when I seen your car sitting that low at 0:48 I have a white 01 gt with black rovos and my cars low but I need your setup for sprints coil overs whatever it is omg. It’s amazing.
My 1995 Ford T-bird smokes a lot and needs new valve stem seals. Thanks for this video! Definitely improved my confidence doing this job!
mine too brother
make that three of us brothers
Four of us at this point 1996
hey man great video, i have the same problem, is it ok if i use metal valve stems?
what’s the exhaust setup
Not bad! My stock 98 z28 auto ran an 8.89 so that’s pretty impressive for a stock 2v. I have a stock c5 corvette now just lowered and exhaust and I’m anxious to see what it runs
Need more Chevy guys like yourself friend. Not bashing the underdog but being a type of supportive we’re all on the Same team against the boxer and vtec engines !
Impressive? Haha
No it didn't you lie like a cheap rug
You just let the valves rest on the piston at TDC?
Do you have a video link on how to remove the cams ?
Plan on getting this 2000 Ford Mustang Gt it comes with a Vortech Supercharger, full exhaust, Diablo tune, the engine is bore and stoked to 330, Heads ported and polished, 3200 stall converter, Build rear with 31 spline axels for $5500 only problem is, is that the transmission shift erratically
buy it
Great video bro
Now after watching this video feel like the shops I went to were out to get me they kept telling me the heads we’re gonna have to come off to do this job on my 1998 mustang gt 4.6 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ great video what would you think someone would charge to do this job ?
it really depends on the shop some will pull the heads that’s the 💯 correct way to do it to also get the heads checked out and redone but around 800-1200 to do what i did in this video. but definitely more when they have to pull heads
This might be dumb question but did you have to remove cams for this job and did you have to mess with the timing at all
yes and yes dm me on instagram for more info about it
Would bad valve stem seals cause my oil pressure gauge to bounce at a slight but erratic rate?
No it will not I will try to replace your oil pressure sensor
@@trbuilt5181 Ahh ok cool. thanks👍
Can you put a link for the tool you're using?
So I'm wondering about the cams and timing how to reinstall
Message me on instagram and I’ll help you out when you get to that point
@@trbuilt5181 ty
I'm just gonna pay some schmuck to do it lol
How are you holding the valves up Have you got compressed air in the cylinder or are you putting the motor to top dead centre and letting the valve sit on the crown of the piston so it doesn’t drop all the way in…??
The piston is at tdc on whatever cylinder I’m working on
Would these cause a failed leak down test?
Unlikely but how bad is failed
@@trbuilt5181 I'm not sure. But the hole was filled with oil and that is the one that failed I was told by the mechanic. It's all original 02 gt.
Oh okay yeah I couldn’t tell you to be certain
Borescoped and yup leaky valves. Thanks for the reply
How much does it cost to have them replaced by an auto shop cuz I don’t have the tools for this
Around $1000 most likely maybe a tad bit More
Can you please tell me what you call or where Can you buy that little plastic tool that you use to protect the stem while going in to install, it looks like a piece of straw. Thank you in advance and very good work!
It came with the valve stems I bought! I git them from rock auto but sure a straw could definitely work if it’s the right size
@@trbuilt5181 thank you!
So did u have to o ay 25 for every single pass or just for the night?
Just the night
@@trbuilt5181 and u get unlimited passes?
Pretty much but it is busy most of the time
@@trbuilt5181 u live in nc?
That tool works with the rear piston? I mean, you know that rears are to hard to access.
Nope no specialty tools other then the ones I showed taking the valve cover off is probably more difficult then valve seals on the rear
You need way more subs man that was a really good tutorial good camera work and explanation
Appreciate it when I decided to make this video I told myself I wanted this to be the best video on valve stem seals you have no idea what I had to do to get some of the shots I got
@@trbuilt5181 You succeeded. Great work
Hey I just wanted to say thank you for the clear in depth video and for all your answers in the comments. I have a 94 Lincoln town car with the same 2 valve 4.6 and its smoking habit has been getting worse and worse it’s starting to chug oil regularly. I thought I’d need an air compressor or 1,000 feet of yarn to do this job but your TDC for every cylinder method makes perfect sense and means I could do it without a compressor so thanks for all the info you posted. I hope I’ll be able to do this job on my car and get it to go another 100,000 miles
I hope this job clears up your smoking issue!
My value seals ride up and down with value stem
Good stuff man, thanks for making this 👍🏼
No problem lmk if you need any help
7:20 you aren't supposed to sit the valve with a socket before putting the spring back on?
Nope you don’t have to I pressed the seal down far enough where it would seat and the valve spring itself will also press it down, in theory putting the valve spring on is also like sitting the seal with a socket
@TRBUILT That isn't how you put a car in neutral what so ever bro..lol we can do better...nice pass though 👌
@10:10
Lmao appreciate it
When you did this job do you have to make sure every cylinder is at tdc?
Yes this is extremely extremely important
U might not see this but I’m the kid on the blue scooter but gotta say stand is sick keep up the work!
Whevener you see me come say hi
