Nice video walkthrough of the sub, thanks for sharing. One thing i never hear anyone mention, is that odor of steel, oil and diesel that lingers in your mouth and nose for the rest of the day. Did you experience that from your walkthrough? :-)

I was there several years ago, did you have to get special permission to film this, at that time camera's wasn't allowed . I understand Carol Burnett payed a visit and was totally thrilled about the place.

I remember visiting the USS Cod on a school field trip. It had to be late 50’s, early 60’s? The thing I remember most, was how cramped it was! I couldn’t imagine serving in battle in one of those subs!?!🫡🇺🇸

On those old subs, the waste water from the toilet was pushed out at a pressure greater than the sea around them. It was critcal that all sailors knew the proper procedure, which valves to turn and gauges to monitor, to flush. A mistake or malfunction could easily flood the sub.

I was reading about life aboard a modern sub, crew several dozen sailors, still had only one washer and dryer aboard. And whenever the machines are available the sailor must use his precious off-duty time to wash clothes, and he is not allowed to leave the laundry room while the machines are running in case it ever causes a fire.

Doc Lawson here! I love that term! I name everything I can think of with foxtrot-tango-romeo! To actually see one is special thank you shipmates! I was a Corpsman and served with the Marines, and went down south to NavHosp Guantanamo Bay, Cuba! What an adventure!

Thanks for the video. I'm always amazed at the non-computer engineering required to design all those electrical cables and plumbing pipes that build layer upon layer. I always think about the extreme noise and heat if you worked in the engine room. I love mechanical things, but that's a bit much day in and day out. Have a great day.
