a Sotic could be "lee-wizard" if we swap (painted portico) for a "lee" (a sheltered stead) breaking down into "one who is wise in the lee way"
What’s the anglish word for casserole
I don't need to see your neb (face) in filmclip ... scroll the words as you read them!
Imagine if we renamed all the science terms into Anglish. Learning science would be 50x easier for kids. Most academic jargon is just unnecessary latin that could easily be replaced. It was put there to gatekeep the commonfolk and give wealthy/aristocratic snobs a monopoly.
Loving it as always. Thank you for posting this short film.
I'm wondering if 'firstlore' for metaphysics might work? For example, there is an online political and philosophical site called 'First Things' because metaphysics is understood to focus on the metaphysical source of all things. Just a thought.
Great list! I like back-and-forth for dialectic.
English, oh you mean creole English
Definitely keeps this forthgoing moving forward. Hwat about medical terms? I hate speaking Greek and not making sense of it. I await your next happenings.
Thanks for listing these in the description. It helps to read along while watching the video!
"The Tale of Sissyphus" "Being and Nothingness" "The One and Only and Its Ownings" "Leading for the Befuddled"
Very impressive. Thanks for taking the time to focus on these words.
As a Frenchman, I feel no slight from this, for I think Anglish is truly great! And I feel like I’m learning a tongue truly unlike my own.
I never realized until now that the words "deem" and "doom" are related.
Any that I can slide into every day English would be a nice start!
Since þere is ſo much ſpeec cƿelling on Reddit, as ƿell as hatred by þe algoꝛiþms foꝛ anyþing outſide þe ſtandard Latin letters, is þere any longing foꝛ a Facebook group foꝛ Angliſc? Þere is a lot leſſe ſpeec cƿelling ouer þere from my ſeeing.
Bro wants to be barbaric once more 🤡
Anglish is a useful linguistic experiment. It is a good thing for Modern English speakers to learn more about the Old English core of the language. But "purity" is bullshit. English is now the dominant language of the world exactly because it has never tolerated any "L'Academe Français" type of "purist" thinking to limit its growth and development.
"embiggen" and "cromulent"
Forthrightly, I'm taken back that he lasted this long.
yes, this reflects the overall level of stupidity of the folk of Canada. Don't know how to say "reflect" in Anglish. Maybe "show"?
This might be a seldom thought. Can we talk about all the words tied to rimecraft. Such bisens are plus, subtract, equal, times, divide. These underwrap will truly help me if you can make a film out of it. Thank you very much.
HVAC words - ventilation, compressor, evaporator, condenser, coil, asf (and so forth).
A few groups of words that I deal in every day: So theological words, yes, i need to differentiate between words like angel, apostle (that is, of Jesus), messenger (a mortal messenger of an earthly king). i am aware of errandghost for angel, but angels can often take a physical form as in genesis 18 among other places in the word of God, so errandghost may lead one to believe that angels are only ever disembodied spirits, which is not supported by scripture. words like scripture, Bible (Holybook?), authorized (as in the Authorized Version), the word "version" (as in Bible version), manuscript, evidence, charity, prayer, praise, glory, spiritual, created (other than made, perhaps with more implied intent), reconciliation, atonement, faith, propitiation, majesty, Also gleecraft/music words like notes, soprano, mezzosoprano, alto, tenor, bass, flat, tuning, intonation, rhythm, meter, time/key signature, orchestra, ensemble, choir, chorus, intro, outro, audio, recording, chord, chord progression, melody, harmony, counterpoint, conductor, names of instruments as well possibly, dramatic, lyric (as in lyric soprano, a type of soprano), opera, contralto, clef, accidental (as in sharp or flat), double, triple, quadrupal, alternate, perform, timbre, chromatic, diatonic, tonic, supertonic, dominant, mediant, submediant, subdominant, system, frequency, grand staff, only to name a few words that I have no witted other choice for in anglish. I think "stretch" may be the right word for "note" as in musical note, as etymologically a note, a tone, a pitch goes back to the greek word meaning stretch, but i am not sure if there is a better option. also, this is off on its own, but I do not have a good word for screen/onscreen/monitor for a reckoner (computer). Hopefully you may be findy to bid Anglish sidekirs to these. Thanks.
I'd like to see words related to the arts Cooking, drawing, painting, music, ect. All that shenanigans
Cooking and drawing are anglish already :p
To be honest, the Anglish resource that I would find the most useful is a mapping of the 5K or so most common *English* words ( to start ), and their Anglish equivalents _even if they are the same word (!)._ Combine this with the Anglish wordbook, and you can build a digital spellchecker file ( with suggestions ) for Anglish in a text editor. Such a tool would allow me to *use and learn* Anglish daily. I'm no linguist - and while I have a great respect for those who *are* , and the folk making the wordbook - I just want to *use* Anglish. If I had, or could build, a system which can point out my mistakes ( _that word is modern English_ ), and have "spell connection" suggestions ( _here's the nuanced replacement suggestions_ ) I could just "learn by doing" in ordinary tasks and writings. And isn't a language ultimately a tool to be used, and not just a framework to be designed? I'm not suggesting *you* do all that work - but you know the people in the community who might be interested and able to do this ( I'm certainly willing to help with what I can as well ). Thanks for all your work on Anglish! I do appreciate your work and channel a great deal :)
Philosophical and theological vocabulary is something I've looked for. On reddit I brought this up and some wrote that Anglish is not for changing Greek words; it's focus is mostly on French and Latin. Do you share that view? Or do Anglish words for these topics exist. Thanks.
bookloreish words like novel and poem
New World fruits and vegetables?
Election = sparky😂
Health and safety swords 😊would be interesting
I love the concept of a "safety sword" - whatever that might be :D
Unequivocally
Sorry I don't speak french 🥖
How about a film on Greek roots and what their Anglish equivalents are?
Yorelore, brilliant word. Jorelore.
*For "criminal" we have "outlaw"* In current popular speech "outlaw" usually connotes someone who's on the run, avoiding capture and so on. Outlaws are not incarcerated. A criminal may not necessarily be on the run, avoiding capture. So wouldn't just "lawbreaker" be more appropriate? That covers those who've been accused of a crime, whatever their status may be. We would also need words for: *to accuse* (which is not the same as to convict); *to plead* (in the legal sense); *guilty*; *not guilty* (which, under the law is not the same as "innocent"); *to prosecute*; *to defend* (in the legal sense); *evidence* (not the same as "proof"); *jury*; *to sentence*; *to appeal* (in the legal sense).
Saic....is GM/CHINA
16:38 are you saying wolfensman, or wilkensman?
i’m not really there with being able to speak anglish, but it is always fun to have your videos pop up on my shorts! keep it up! ❤
Thanks!
"Nobody knows what truly started the fire" What's Anglish for freemasons?
I haue been ƿoꝛkinᵹ on ſome þinᵹs in Angliſc, gleecraꝼt, and þat in Treƿ Picfolloƿ (True Intonation). I alſo haue been making a build ꝼoꝛ runes, one þat ƿoꝛkeþ muc better þan any build I haue ſeen from oþers, and þat haþ treƿ foꝛeſca-doƿ of good, eꝼen to þꝛeep ƿiþ þe Latin letters and oꝼertake þem as þe moſt liked ƿay oꝼ ƿꝛiting Angliſc (and it alſo can ƿoꝛk hƿolly ƿell in Neƿ Enᵹliſc as ƿell). Þe biᵹᵹeſt hurdel ꝼoꝛ runes, bꝛoaꝺly ſpeakinᵹ as I ſee it, is þe leſſe þan ꝼulꝼrimmed ſhape of eac rune in vnicode; þeir ſunꝺꝛy ſhapes can be bettereꝺ to make reaꝺinᵹ from ꝼarre eaþier. Loꝛꝺ ƿillinᵹ I ſcall fulꝺo it ſoon and put it vp on my RUclips þeet.
Intereſting. Ƿould þere be any concern in leuen being too cloſe to leauen, that is, þat hƿich is vſed to make bꝛead riſe? Could "leu" be vſed inſtead oꝛ ƿould þat alter þe vnderlying meaning from olde Engliſh? I am fairly neƿe to Angliſh in general. Is þere a good reſource of ƿoꝛds and þeir Angliſh alternatiues? Oꝛ a dictionary/ƿoꝛdbooke online to type a ƿoꝛd in and get Angliſh alternatiues? Thanks.
Those are all good points, but I think “need” is a bit of exaggeration. Still, it’s a really cool idea and sounds like slot of fun.
Highchurch, very interesting when you actually think how cathedrals weren’t around in the old times
Right in time for Christmas ⛄
Ure fondest ƿan man gencums from þe noþingness to ken us on laƿƿordcraft. 🥲
Couldn't we use "slammer" for "jail".
That's another good one.
That’s too colloquial
The Anglish law system surely loves it's doom :D
Forsooth!
My Mother taught me to look up words' etymology when I was small. It's a good mental and intellectual practice. As for choosing a pure English or Anglish tongue in your life, I don't see why Italians would find that intuitive. However, I've been griping to myself that someone other than me decided I'd live in a Greco-Roman world, and speak bits of the languages of past invaders, like the British Empire. This author gives the example of the word "lifestyle" being invented and introduced into common parlance (Oh, No!), ultimately to connote that eating bad food is a personal choice. He points out how "an on-the-go lifestyle" led people to accept unhealthy practices in their own lives. So how many things did we learn to accept, obey or die for because of Roman, Greek, British, French, Middle-Eastern, Celtic or other linguistic influences? Maybe almost all of them? If you don't want to be silently programmed by the predominating influence du jour (Oh, No!) then I think you should look up the origins of words, their exact meaning, and most of the other intellectual topics that were spreading from classical education's adaptation to American culture, prior to being swamped by foreign Psychological Operations.
Given how Threads failed to take over Twitter's stead, while already being linked to Instagram, I don't have high hopes for Bluesky.
I love the idea I might try a find to use it, personally I am a big fan of the impurity of current technical terms and how fucked up you can make words and somehow have an understanding
Based
It might be good if you could provide each Anglish word you use and just list the English translation. Would help us learn more Anglish vocabulary
