Hi Everyone. This is a follow up to my previous video:
ruclips.net/video/63gb78VPrb8/видео.html
In the previous video we talked about how to setup a banner design with grommets and variable hem text. Today's video shows how to automate that process across multiple banner sizes. The goal is to make it so you can place many different banner design in and have the grommets marks, hem text info and page borders automatically set up for you.

    It is enlightening and really refreshing to find a tutorial from someone who is prepress and postprocessing savvy. Thanks for that. Hope to see more from you//I enjoyed it. One question though: Do you design banners full scale? I was taught to design on a smaller scale proportionally, and prepress/printshop will blow it up as needed. Reason for this question is the memory lags and crashes I experienced in both Acrobat and InDesign. (I tried your tut on a 60in by 24in selfmade banner). I'm off to your next tut😅.

      That can be true with some designs. I don’t do a ton of straight design work myself, but if I do, I usually try and use vectors when possible #1 and if it’s a heavy image type banner I usually drop the dpi to 150 or 100 depending on the size. They look pixelated up close, but from afar they look fine. Thanks for watching.

    Hello Mike, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I work on a press company and frequently I receive many pdfs with a die line. Sometimes client send the document as an bitmap image though. This method you showed doesn't work if the art are a bitmap image?

    • @miketheprintman
      @miketheprintman День назад

      That is correct. The die line would have to be vector. If your customer supplied a file with a die line as a raster or bitmap then it would just part of the image. You’d either need them to resend or do some kind of removing in photoshop.

    • @miketheprintman

      Go to tools -> print production -> preflight. When that window opens you’ll see three icons in the center of the window. The wrench icon is for fix ups. When you have it selected in the upper right of the window it should say options with a drop down selector. From there you click “create fixup” and you’ll find the built in Adobe preflight fix up profiles. Let me know if that helped.

    Hey Mike - I appreciate the video. We have a Ricoh 7200 (only using the clear for one clients bus cards - so not really necessary)now but our volumes have grown to where we are exceeding the monthly duty cycle on a regular basis. So, I’m looking at the Ricoh 9500 or the KM c14000. I do like the way the Ricoh has the fusing unit separated - seems smart for the longer runs. Do you have the “Auto Color Diagnosis” feature on your model? I’m just wondering if that feature is needed. I’m in the Milwaukee metro area so both the Ricoh & KM have good service teams close & available. We have never had a KM press before - a sister shop of ours has a smaller production KM unit and they like it and have noted good service for it. But I’ve heard some troubling stories on the early years for the KM c14000 - but nothing recent. Let me know if you think the Ricoh Auto Color Diagnosis (if you have it - is it worth the extra $) Let me know your thoughts. Thanks Mike- John the printer man

    • @miketheprintman
      @miketheprintman День назад

      As far as I know the c9200/9500 have the color calibrator built in. I wasn’t aware that there was even an option not to have it. Personally I think it’s a great feature of the machine and worth whatever price you have to pay for it. I have heard some stories that the Km 14000 had some growing pains when they first released it, but I’m sure they worked them out by now. My money would’ve on the 9500 though. Ricoh makes great machines.

    • @johnmcadams4738
      @johnmcadams4738 День назад

      There are 2 “Optional” quality control features with the 9500. 1. Image Quality Monitor- Checks for imperfections in print 2. Auto Color Diagnosis - this automatically corrects color when in production. Maybe your 9200 already has this in its build.

    • @miketheprintman
      @miketheprintman День назад

      @@johnmcadams4738 Those could be new features. I know on the 9200 there is a built in scanner that auto detects image quality and will attempt to fix imperfections in the prints. The c9500 has probably improved on that feature, so that could be what that is. Either way, I don't see how having that could be a downside.

    • @johnmcadams4738
      @johnmcadams4738 День назад

      I know that toner squares are applied to the image belt and the densities are scanned read and adjusted but if you want the printed image itself read and adjusted to the RIP image that is where the optional feature of Auto Color Diagnosis comes into play. My sales rep on this area says he never sells these 2 options because of how good the machine is w/out them.

    • @miketheprintman
      @miketheprintman 6 дней назад

      #1, make sure you have all your static elements on the master page, not on page 1 of the document. The multiple record layout looks at all items on the page, so if you have crop marks it will think you're trying to make those multiple as well. #2, make sure you don't have any large text boxes because InDesign will think you don't have enough room to place multiple records on one page. Hope that helps.

    Thank you ! Hi ! Im wondering how do I set up so the text wraps to the next page?

      If you have text placed in, say from a Word document, you can autoflow your text when you make your text box. It will auto fit to the margins of each page. To do that, go to file -> place and select your word file. When the cursor appears with the text loaded, go to the top left hand corner of your first page, hold shift + alt or shift + command (mac) and it will auto flow your text and automatically created new pages. If you don't want it to create new pages and just use whatever pages you have in your InDesign document, just hold shift. If you already have a text box that has overflowed text in it, select the box with the + symbol in the bottom right hand corner, that will load all your text and you can then do the same thing, holding shift or shift + alt/cmd to make it flow. Hope that helps.

      I agree. Plus I don’t want to pay for something extra that I really don’t need. The old colors were close enough as is.
