Graham Parker and the Rumour - Empty Lives
Graham Parker & The Rumour's brilliant first two albums, both on Mercury in the U.S., 'Howlin' Wind' & 'Heat Treatment' were 1976 not 1969 😂
Where does it say 1969?
Was there, balcony front row. This is Geep + Rumour at their best. Go, Brinsley, go!
Graham is Great!
My favourite band ever!
What an amazing front man. And damn, Brinsley could lay it down.
fantastic!!!!!!!!!🪕
I was the assistant engineer on the mix of this record with Jimmy Iovine producing!
Was that Nicky Hopkins on keyboards in the video? I know that he replaced Bob Andrews when they recorded The Up Escalator...
Amazing version of this classic slice of RnB
Saw them play one afternoon in my small college (University of Louisville) auditorium/lecture hall in 1977? Couldn't have been 100 students there that day. He and the band just rocked that place! What a show....what a fabulous band!
Great!
Graham Parker pours it all out with more songwriting talent and conviction than most.
Marvelous voice and writer..❤❤❤
Damn, what a band!!!! I ❤ Graham
this is fan tastic
Love Gram Parker. Amazing. He just brings me back . Saw alot of bands but none like him
I've listened to a TON of music and can easily say that Graham Parker is one of the most underrated artists of all time.
The Rumour was such an amazing band - maybe it had something to do with the fact that Brinsley Schwarz and Bob Andrews had played together for years, as had Bodnar and Goulding. Brinsley Schwarz (the band), Bontemps Roulez, and Ducks Deluxe had all been extraordinary outfits, and all contributed members to the Rumour, but none of those bands had contributed a major songwriter to the Rumour (with the possible exception of Andrew Bodnar on bass). So when the Rumour issued albums of their own, it was the songwriting where they didn't quite make it. Never mind - Graham Parker and the Rumour will last as long as rock does.
Aunque tiene una buena legión de seguidores creo por el talento y calidad que tiene debería tener muchísimos más. Aunque en el fondo es bonito saber de nuestro privilegio. Lo adoro desde los 70
Found this ... Along with lots of other GOLD !! ruclips.net/p/PLBgPutrM9yzMDt2DyuoEQivaSonIv2Nbw&si=9WUdOYQ8h4AjHdPM
I bought tickets to a Clapton show to see the opening act...Graham Parker.
Parker without shades 😎
My brother would make fun of this music. He's a boomer. I've never expected him to understand Gen-x's music.
Saw him in 1975 , great first 3 albums, classic songs and brilliant live.
❤
Anybody know what tuning Graham uses for this? I'm transcribing it for a student, and his fingerings are definitely not the standard tuning ones I thought they would be!
im wasting away xx
round and round xx love GPxx
I bought tickets and went to an Eric Clapton concert, but not for EC. Opening, was Graham Parker. I love Graham Parker, Lowell George and Zevon. My favorites.
Graham Parker - underestimated and underplayed.
A favorite from my college radio daze!
You too? That was a magical time for breaking the flood of new music beyond what the commercial stations would play in a medium market. Such cool memories, and so many media passes to shows.
I saw this concert in Oslo october 79-80..
Great Rock. The Album Heat Treatment is still one of my favourites. Concise, rich of variety and without gimmicks.
Best voice in rock. Friggin love Graham
This has been my cell phone ringtone for at least 10 years.
Of all the GP that I've searched and listened to on YT, how does this finally hit my recommendations 14yrs after it's posted...... YT has failed me miserably!! 😫
How in god’s name are those people sitting down??.
The Rumour was so under-rated!
Shoulda been a big star.
Where is this town? My kind of place.
This is Cottage Grove in Oregon. It's about 20 miles from Eugene, where the University of Oregon is located and where the campus scenes were filmed.
@@fpdiii Thanks! I am in Crescent City..not far away! (And retired, plus mobile in a fifth wheel home). Thanks again!
This was for the 40th anniversary of the release of Animal House. Not only was there a parade on Main Street, where it was originally filmed (and the downtown looks pretty much the same as it did back then), but there was a toga party later that evening in the park with Otis Day and the Nights appearing as the musical headliner.
@Elliot Fogg It was the first time that I am aware of. It was a big thing in this town and the area itself. Probably won't happen again until the 50th.
Magic
Thanks for sharing I’ve never seen this before of Nicky playing.
If ever there was a song for today this is it,brilliant and underestimated artist.
Great video and audio. Thx for posting. I was there w/ 4 friends. An excellent set by Graham and the figs. We luv GP...
A truly great song, the hook is magnificent
Been a fan since I was 13 in 1978. Perplexed as to why he is not much better known
Loved GP since the late '70s, and am amazed by the quality of the songs that pop up on RUclips, ones I hadn't heard, each performance featuring great songwriting, standout vocals and incredible musicianship: enduring quality. Wow.
GP as good as it gets in any universe!
Song gave me the chills.... twice... once at the first chorus.. and again at the final one... I've loved Graham Parker for a long time... I've always felt privileged to know about him... and be able to share his music with my friends...
What an amazing band. They are all fantastic players and the twin guitars of Schwartz and Belmont is one of the best ever. I know they care nothing about the R&R Hall of Fame, but when you see some of the groups in there, it's criminal they're not.
Agree 💯 about Brinsley and Martin! Former played tight and tasty, and the latter had a wilder and more emotional style. Perfect balance! Also love the interplay between Brinsley and Bob Andrews’ on the keys.
Most under rated band ever!
Couldn't have said it better. Little Feat is next in line.
