Explanation of this arragement: The video is about an untold love that had no fruition, just like Beethoven's original Moonlight Sonata. In the story told in this version, a young woman prays under the moon for a beloved man. The man searches lands far and wide and finally meets her and so they become a couple full of love. The man leaves for an adventure and while he tries to conquer the sea under the moonlight, he's been drown and lies dead on the water. The woman mourns because she has lost her only love. In the final scene, the moon which resembles the unfullfilled love crushes and scatters all over the universe giving an end to false dreams and hopes. Explanation of Beethoven's sonata and the link to the theme of this video: - The sonata was originaly written to tell an untold love story. Beethoven dedicated this work to his 16 years old student, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi. Beethoven was in love with her, but their romance eventually did not come to fruition. - Similarly this arragement describes an unfulfilled love but not because of age difference but because of the death of one member. - Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata was published in 1801 as op. 27./2. - The sonata's original name was not Moonlight Sonata but Sonata quasi una fantasia ( translation:sonata in the manner of fantasy). The name Moonlight Sonata (“Mondscheinsonate” in German), was given to this sonata by the poet Ludwig Rellstab much later in the 1830s, after Beethoven's death. He likened the first movement to a boat floating on the lake Lucerne, in Switzerland. - Ludwig Van Beethoven was not completely deaf in 1801 but he had symptoms of deafening. - It consists of three movements, the largest of which is the third one. Franz Liszt said, described the second movement a little flower between two abysses( as abysses he was referring to the first and third movement) . - The sonata is really unique and ahead of its era in structure and emotion, because although it was writen in the Classical Era of Music, its emotional rhetoric and structure better describes the sonata as a Romantic Era Masterpiece ( despite the fact that the Romantic Era began after Beethoven's death). - Another interesting fact is that Beethoven prescribed to play the whole first movement with the sustain pedal down, so harmonies can overlap, fading into each other: “Si deve suonare tutto questo pezzo delicatissimamente e Senza Sordino”. This is something a modern piano cannot do. Today it is up to the interpretation of the player.
