Otter Creek FWP campground outside of Big Timber MT
Просмотров 1692 года назад
Otter Creek is a MT fishing access on the upper Yellowstone River. It is a popular "take out point" for fishermen floating the Yellowstone, but sees light use for camping. There is a clean, well kept pit toilet and one picnic table, but this is dry camping. Bring a table & chairs, water & trash bags. The town of Big Timber is 5 miles away and offers all services. www.campingbastards.com/ www.pi...
My first rockhounding find. ( Selenite Gypsum)
Просмотров 1712 года назад
The Wyoming sunshine reflecting off this rock is what attracted me to it, I had never seen anything like it so I picked it up and went back to camp. Later I came back with bags and gathered more different rocks, ones that I now consider junk and I spent hours and walked miles doing it and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Rockhounding is great exercise. www.campingbastards.com/ www.pinterest.com/campi...

Mason - Lovell ranch historic place outside of Lovell WY.
Просмотров 712 года назад
A.L. Mason and H.C. Lovell built a cattle ranching headquarters in the big horn canyon in 1883. Their prized cattle roamed the big horn basin in a classic open-range operation. The Lovell family ran the ranch until 1909. In the early 1960s the ranch was purchased by the Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Bighorn Lake reservoir project. www.campingbastards.com/ www.pinterest.com/campingbastard...

The Pac Brake was used the entire time downhill? How does the exhaust brake not build up pressure back to the engine?
Found some of that in New Mexico near Roswell.
I have trouble putting on the lid. Can you demonstrate an easy way to do it? -66 year old chic from Michigan
Heck yeah brotha! Even though I bought a welder this year and won a tubing bender; im still going Ironman4x4fab ! I'll just have to build my own sliders, bumpers, cage 🤙🏽.
Great video! Thank you
Don't talk over the vibrators. You cannot be heard. Just a bit of advise to help you make a better video. otherwise good content.
The lousy site might be 14&15
I'm having trouble finding u-bolts for my lift block any suggestion where I could get those I've tried Tractor Supply O'Reilly's nothing
I love the way chert looks, it just takes so long to tumble.
Chert = jasper = flint = chalcedony = cryptocrystalline SiO2. They come in many different grades and colours. You know not of what you speak. 😢
Chert makes great driveway
I see Flint as well as chert, The only difference in Flint and chert, is where it's created. Flint is formed in chalk walls mostly. Chert is formed in limestone. It can be created anywhere. So much more common. Chert, jasper, Flint. All the same thing. Sio2. Silica.
Could you get the pieces wet and hold them close to the camera so we can see them for what they are.
I went one step better yet. I bought the Harbor Freight 10 lb. tumbler for $69.00 and put the Thumbler 10 lb bowl on it for under 100.00. The Harbor Freight bowl will wear out in 2-3 batches of rock. The HF tumbler is built very well and with the Thumbler 10 lb bowl I get as good of tumbling action as you are with the mini bowl. Right now no one has the Thumbler vibrating polishers in stock. HF has them on the shelf and the Thumbler bowls seem fairly available. Hope this saves someone some money.
I have a 95 cedar and want to do the same thing. Where and what parts did you use on this build? Thanks for the upload, great work!
When do you put Borax in the vibrator?
I'm bummed that I can't hear anything at all that you're saying while the tumbler is running. I do value what you're trying to share with us
I remember walking up and down that fishing access and floating down the river when I was little, rubber duck races during fishtail family fun day back in the day, the old rock shop. I love fishtail
Been there many times. Great campground
since you have both tumblers is it even remotely possible to put the mini bowl on the raytech?
What do you use to move the retention washers on the shafts?
I've ordered $1000 of stuff from Rock Shed in the last 2 weeks, 3 different packages. Of those packages, 2 were missing items, including a tumbler. Not sure if that is a common problem, or if it's the norm for me. I really want to support small business, but unfortunately missing $400 of items in multiple packages is a no go for me. Have you experienced this? I'm going to have to look for a better supplier.
I always ask who their carrier is. If its Fed Ex I won't buy. They have misdelivered several packages to god knows where.
We stayed there when I was a kid. My dad always found the best camp spots. That was 40yrs ago. Someday i want to go back there.
Definitely looks like petrified wood.
It looks as if it has banding, a window, and also some pitting. I would guess it is an agatized fossil of some sort. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Love you videos.
Thanks for this information. Being that I am a beginner in rock collecting, can u do a video on Calcedney one day and how it may differ from Chert? Love your videos and thanks again.
When I was in the area last summer, I counted approximately 50 campers in the 2.5 mile segment between the hard surface road (US-14A) and where FR#14 intersects with FR#11, and less than a handful of them were occupied. The USFS needs to crack down on this situation. It's not fare that the locals keep their campers up on the mountain all summer resulting in the out-of-state visitors not finding a decent place to camp!
I got lucky and saw your video before I made my purchase. Thanks for the heads up.
but in your own video you're claiming flint and chert are the same thing. you ought to dig a little deeper before throwing stones at glass houses.
Where exactly is this campground?? What town it close to never heard of this place, I lived in Sheridan Wyoming for 18 yrs
From what I can tell from this end (I’m no expert) is it looks like fossilized teeth became agatized!
A lot of that Chalcedony you're finding will brightly fluoresce under short wave UV light. Wyoming has a bunch of cool rocks!
Chert is also microcrystalline quartz but is sedimentary.
Thank you! As a beginner I get confused by watching other videos and they lump chert and jasper together as the same mineral.
They are the same mineral
Fun looks like you have unique rocks to tumble, good luck and rock on😊
Ahhh thanks for this
Looks like petrified wood to me! I'm your 100th subscriber :)
Another awesome video! I absolutely love Montana! By far my most favorite state I've ever been too. Hoping to make it back out there in September! You'll have to check out my homemade truck camper me and my pup travel out of on my channel! Keep up with the awesome content!
Holy crap your channel name is lmao
Petrified wood
Thank you! Excellent video!
Thank you.
I'm with you on the driftwood.
Yep that is what I think, I mean why can't there be petrified drift wood.
Veryy nice sized specimens ; )
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Interesting, so are these both pusdomorphs or is it just the dolomite version that is the pusdomoeph?
They are both the same, they used to be calcite and argonite crystals that got buried under dolomite which seeped into the crystals and then like petrified wood and agate it morphed into its shape and the split into slices.
Awesome finds, I have found selenite in my area, but nothing as big as your specimens!
Yes they are good size for around here too.
I do love hearing about rockhounders first experience of discovery, and the inspirations to follow their trails back to veins of treasure! I'll keep those thoughts in mind when I go back out and sprain my ankle again on my creek walk!😉
That is a common occurrence on gravel bars.
Plz how much cost tumboling
If you are asking me how much one of these rock tumblers are they were between $300 and $380
Just a coincidence, but I just picked up an almost perfectly round, tennis ball sized chert nodule out of my back yard Indiana creek bed Saturday! Thanks for showing your selections, and adding some history to the mix!
That is a nice size piece of chert.
How dozet cost tumboling plz
If you are starting out in tumbling first you would need a rotary tumbler to do the course tumble a cheap one of those is $80-100 and will do 3 pounds of rock, then the vibratory tumbler here is $330-380 but tumbles a lot of rock and makes your last 2-3 stages quicker 2-3 days each instead of a week each in a rotary and you only use 2- 3 tablespoons of grit for 9 pound batch compared to 9 tablespoons for the same in a rotary. Total cost to do 9 pounds of rock in 4 grits and then a polish using a vibe tumbler will cost me about $9.25
Thanks for your observations and your specimen displays! I am finding quite a few chert nodules in my ravines and creeks, as well as jaspers, and I can usually detect the differences (as you have described). Most of my jasper finds are red in color, although I do have some yellow examples. Many of my chert "tiles", or nodule cuts, can include deeper red and yellow hues as well, but the rind around the nodule or tile really identifies those stones as chert. I delight in finding banded cherts, and I often send pix of those discoveries to my agate-addicted friends in Wisconsin and Minnesota, explaining that they are "rare Indiana agates"! I haven't had much success fooling anybody!
Banded chert is rare, like finding a banded agate instead of plain or mossy ones. We have some purple chert in our area but it is harder to find. I will post a small video of chert that I have polished from our area.
@@campingbastardsdotcom849I have a piece of chert that a geologist told me, must have been under intense pressure and crystallized. Have you ever heard or seen anything like that?
