Thank you for this Dr. Bob!
Two talented pianist and educators. Studied with Bob back in late 90's at Dallas School of Music (I wasn't the most dedicated student, but learned a lot from him). Also bought all of Bert Ligon's books back then too.
Wonderful interview. I have just bought both of his books
My piano teacher!
Great conversation! A lot of knowledge and experience to share.
The insights in this video are tremendous! Thank you for putting this out :)
Interesting! I’ll check that method, and the novels are intriguing! Thank you
Lots of wisdom in this interview. Thank you
Clearly the best thing I've watched on RUclips in years.
VERY FUN! i SWEAR YOU LOOK LIKE mATT oWENS....
Greetings to both great music masters!
Thanks for having me, Bob!
Always fun to hear Josh and Dr. Bob's interaction and perspectives. 👍
What a great interview! Thanks for sharing with us!
Dan Hearle took sessions in London, Richmond upon Thames in 2004! I really have a high regard for his great knowledge of jazz, harmony and melody! His work there for me was very inspirational. Thanks Dan, from Victor! God bless you!
The bulk of what McCoy Tyner played on Blue Bossa was C-6/9 and F-6/9 with few rare C-7 and F-7 chords popping up in the midst of it all. The same went for Barry Harris playing Blue Bossa. I am not sure why it has become C-7 Dorian-centric instead.
I took Bert's jazz theory class as an undergrad at USC...it wasnt until then when I got the full grasp of music.
Such a fantastic interview, thank you so much! I really enjoyed both parts to this, I feel like you guys could have talked all day! What a legend Jamey Aerbersold is and what a service he has done for Jazz education. As a classically trained musician I would never have had a go at improvising without his materials.....great humour and warmth in this interview. Loved the bit about the couple listening to the II-V-I album...SO funny!!
Truly inspiring!!!
Thanks!
please keep doing this❤
this man's books are great, but his personality is even better.
I worked at original Dick Grove School of Music and remember Liz Kinnon very well first as a student and later as a teacher at the school. She's not only a great pianist but one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Sure good to see her again.
Very worthwhile to listen to super advice like this. It may seem a long interview but the solid advice will save hours of misdirected practice! Many thanks for the interview.
Liz, when you mentioned how important the ears are, and about ditching the fake books, I was reminded of choral music composer in a workshop saying that a music reader opens a book to the score pages and plays from those, and an ear player opens a book to the table of contents and plays from that.
Ron is one of the best jazz pianists in the world. He is also an amazing piano teacher. His perspective on music is unique. Getting to know him is the best turning point in my life.
Hey Josh enjoyed the music
I’ve been a huge fan for years. Thank you Jamie!
Excellent episode! Thx! 👏🤘😎🎹
Love this ❤️ I love to sing jazz tooo
What a treat.
There were many Abersold jazz courses held in England some years ago. It did a lot educating jazz students for people of all ages. Happy days knowing and working alongside great musicians from the USA.
I was on a few of them myself!
Cool interview. Thanks for sharing Jon and thanks for airing this Dr. Bob. All the best from the Netherlands.
This is so great! I've been a fan of Bert Ligon for a while, from his books, and to learn that he also plays guitar makes so much sense to me. Thank you for posting this here.
amazing interview from two very interesting people!
Great vid. Mr. Haerle was my jazz theory professor at UNT (NTSU).
Ģreat interview Josh, Dina
