When my dad was a kid, one of his neighbors had befriended a groundhog. He would put a piece of bread out with jam on it and the groundhog would come and eat it. Stuff like that was normal. Now we have this group of control freaks who think they are animal lovers by restricting everyone else from having anything to do with animals. You see these people posting comments in dog and cat videos as if they are dog and cat psychiatrists. They end up being terrible pet owners, but they got it in their heads that they know what is best and lecture other people. When I was a kid, my dad and I went down to the SPCA and picked up a puppy. Same day. Now they want you to do multiple visits and bring any family members and other pets to introduce them to the pet you are trying to adopt. They make it more complex and then complain about the amount of pets looking for homes. You have to register the pet and if you have to give the pet up for whatever reason, you can't just pass it on to a friend, you have to notify the place you adopted it from. As if they are maintaining ownership and you are just fostering the animal. Everything is about control. A certain portion of the human race will try to control other people any chance they get. If they don't make it to an actual position of authority, they'll just become karens. I can understand controlling exotic animals and invasive species, this was a squirrel. They are control freaks.
