    Your cruise control problem is most likely caused by the front radar unit installed on the right side of the front camera between the headlights. I’m having similar problems in my 5 weeks old IONIQ 5 and you can find the IoniqGuy videos speaking about the same problem. Unfortunately it seems to be typical problem with wide range or different Hyundai models, not only the IONIQ.

    Why only 180 kw. when the new cars will charge at over 250km, (try Electrify America chargers in the states) the idea of charging at a fast charger is to not waste time....I can charge from 20-80 in 14 min at a 350 KW charger. Once again decisions are taken by people who do not drive electric cars or are more pro gaz.

      @@roberthiller6352 Thanks for the question. We know to get full speed a lot of factors come into play. State of charge has to be low enough. Battery temperature has to be in the right range and the charger has to have enough output and this also means the charging curve of the car plays a huge role. I get the 10-80% in 18 minutes in this car on the 350kw chargers from electrify Canada. No issue. I don’t often need that much of a charge and what is more important to most is reliability and cost. I do 90% of my charging at home on my own installs level 2 flo charger. I use it for trips more than the range if my car perhaps twice a month and then only need a 10 minute charge to make it back to my charger at home. I have no issues at all with my needs on these 180kw chargers. They are where I need them on my route.

    Irving is a common name across northern New England as well, but their charging options are limited. What you have here would also be an upgrade on the US installations, which at best are paired ChargePoint stations that *might* hit 125kW on a good day, if no one else is charging. Thanks for showing us the new station.

      If you charge 2 or more times a month and charge lets say for 60 percent of your battery that would be 69.20 for the average battery or more . With the .72/ KW monthly that would be 55.29 so a savings of 13.90 and so it is better in that case to have a monthly plan. I don't charge often at these chargers. Great video. Thank you. So i understand how this will work for DC charging. But what about AC charging when the battery is cold. If you charge eg with 11kw AC or from your normal power outlet with 2,3kw, what will happen? Do you need to preheat the battery? And if yes, the charging AC will take many hours, so in time the battery will cool down again i guess? Nobody really talks about AC charging in winter although most people who own an electrical car will mostly charge AC. Can you help?

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 2 месяца назад

      @thewwcanadian is this somewhere documented? Have you tested this yourself? So fact data about AC charging in winter? What does your OBD tell you?

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 2 месяца назад

      @@WiljanWiljan I have charged various cars in the winter on my 40 amp Level 2 charger and it always begins at 6.9 KW and maintains that until 80 percent when I have set it to stop. If I precondition it uses about 4KW/h and so there is a loss of energy and no return on that use. Yes I have done this hundreds of times and always the same result. Also when I arrive at flo 50KW charger without preconditioning I often see 49KW speed immediately or within the first minute so the preconditioning does little when the DC charger is below 50KW speed like those 24KW chargers that are Bosch at some of the car dealers. No need to pre-conditioning when the charger is anywhere lower than 50KW and that includes AC charging as they are less than 22KW in pretty much all EVSE''s

    • @WiljanWiljan
      @WiljanWiljan 2 месяца назад

      @@thewwcanadian if you watch eg Bjorn Nylands test videos, you can actually see that certain brands (tesla, hyundai, volkswagen etc) behave differently when charging with 11kw in cold winter (temperature lower then 3 degrees celcius). He shows that from the 11kw charging station only about 5kw goes into the battery (you can read this from the obd dongle). The remaining kw is used by the car automatically to heat up the battery. And since AC charging takes several hours (eg charging from 20 to 80%), its even possible that during the charge session, the battery cools down again and the automatic heating repeats itself. So the 11kw AC charging is not efficient in low temperatures (not even that cold) and manufacturers are not talking about it. Also unfortunate many channels do not report about this, since many believe that AC charging is not temperature depending. However real tests will tell a different story....

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 2 месяца назад

      @@WiljanWiljan First most of level two charging happens at home where the cost for me as an example is $0.15 per KW/h and so if I am plugged in at home it makes no sense to Pre-condition before arriving home. When I am away lets say and using 3 KW/h to Pre-condition my battery on a DC charger it can be as much as $.90 per Kw/h so it is not cost effective to use power on the way to an AC charger that I am going to be charged by the hour lets say $1.50 as it will give me 7-11KW in an hour so the cost is $0.21 per Kw/h. So I guess it is really a matter of using charging at the right place and time. If I am on my way home I will not pre-condition. If I am going to a charger that is above 50 it makes financial and time sense to pre-condition. I am not sure why a car would not accept the full 7-11 when it is lower in the battery and on AC charging. I don't usually charge at work or at a parking lot away from home on a slower charger so don't know the real cost or efficeincy. I have charged in the winter on slow chargers a time or two but it was free charging. You have to decide which works best for you.

      Benefits of an owning an EV - No longer at the whims of OPEC. I don't worry about the price at the pumps anymore. - Cost of "fueling" is drastically reduced. Less than $5 to full charge my Ioniq at home. $10-20 to fill up at a public fast charger. - Many options for free charging - at work, at the mall, at public parks. When was the last time you got gas for free? - I can "refuel" my vehicle almost anywhere - at work, at the mall, parking garage, a hotel, and at home. - No more oil change, timing belt replacement, muffler, and transmission repair - Less likely to be stolen - Doing my little part to reduce emission Yes, EVs might not be for everyone but saying the "technology is garbage" shows how little you understand. There's a reason why most EV owners will never return to ICE vehicles. Please do a little research before making such dumb comments.

    What I'd like to know is why a used Bolt costs so much more in Nova Scotia than in Quebec, and so much more in Quebec than in the States.

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 10 месяцев назад

      l don’t know but I know where there is a 2017 bolt 1LT for $22,500 with 46,000km and the car is like new. It has a new battery already installed and most likely you could offer 21,000 and get 2000 used rebate making it pretty reasonable. It is at Forbes Kia in Bridgewater and there are some in NS that are priced as good as the ones in Quebec but not a lot.

    • @davidbutt406
      @davidbutt406 10 месяцев назад

      The Quebec car is more expensive than the US car, because the US car was much cheaper at initial sale, or is one of the Buy Back Bolts that certain states required of GM. The Quebec car is cheaper than the NS car because Quebec has offered discounts on EV purchases for a longer time, and the current used price reflects that discount.

    Not too shabby, all in all. You might hope for it to hold the 100s through to 80% but I'd take it for a mid-length stop. The only problem I had with Petro-Canada when I came up last fall was that I found one of the few single stall locations and it was occupied by a Niro EV... as long as they're working and charging cars, that will do for the moment! ⚡

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 10 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately it appears like Petro Canada has no interest in fixing the chargers that are down. Two on my route provide less than 45KW charging speed and one of two charging stalls is down still after months of being that way. I am always avoiding these. Thankfully there are many new chargers in the pipeline for the next coming months so there is hope. Thanks for support and watching my content. I am a huge watcher of your channel as well.

      With preconditioning to 21c. Your I5 should have requested about and held 180 kw. Your speed at 90 kw was derated. Making PC more money since they still charge by the minute. All that said 90kw on PC is better than most are getting.

      @@iangardner2311 I think PC just knows they make more by not fixing the hardware.

    Why do we need a cell phone to charge our cars? Can you not have one without the other?

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 11 месяцев назад

      There are RFID readers on the unit but not sure you would have to reach out to Autel about getting one. Not sure how you will do that perhaps a carrier pigeon would work for a luddite. Not sure. Just having fun with your comment. I am not sure who would drive an EV and not have a phone as it is highly connected and works better with an app to do things like pre-condition or settings etc. This charger might now be accessible unless you have an option to set up an app. That is mostly how the world is going these days.

    I'm an Ottawa 2018 Bolt owner that has my eye on the Ioniq 5 as my next vehicle. I totally agree with you on the fast charging slowness of the Bolt, but I do love the way one-pedal driving has been implemented. How would you compare regenerative braking between the Bolt and the Ioniq 5? Thanks!

    • @thewwcanadian
      @thewwcanadian 11 месяцев назад

      I would say I like the bolt one pedal best. The ioniq is much more gradual even on ipedal.

    Ah, Petro Canada... seems to be the EA of your country. Glad there are other options and thanks for the update! Your points of the Chevy Bolt moving into the Ioniq 5 are very similar to mine. Happy with our decision but the Bolt handled Boston parking and traffic a bit better!

      Thanks for your comment. Yes the bolt still will always be my first EV so we are happy to keep it going as my wife’s commuter and around town car. Also my adult university children love driving electric.

    Congrats on the new Ioniq 5!!!! I was able to get the 2022 long range rear wheel drive SEL trim with all sorts of goodies……. Not the limited trim, which has everything…… it would’ve cost me another $8000 US. It has 303 miles of range on average and 200 miles range at 70 miles an hour on the freeway, driving uphill, in the winter with the heat on. In 20°F weather. More than enough range. Summer range has to be 350 miles, easy!!!!!! I bought it off the lot with no markup for $48,000 US in January 2022…. US$45,200 out the door net of the federal income taxes and including all taxes and titles and fees etc. etc. etc. I have 53,000 miles on the thing and I’m retired but I just love driving this car. I go skiing, and I go to the casino, and I go visit my grand grand nieces and my children ……… It is a place you want to spend time !!!!! Do you have the HDA II, it’s almost autonomous driving !!!!!! It is just such a comfortable luxury car !!! The only issue with those South Koreans is that it took them until July 2022 to realize that every single car they manufacturer for every single market should have the ability to preheat and precondition the battery prior to fast charging, especially when you’re on the road, and especially with our winters… I am in Connecticut and my DC fast charging is slow at 40 kW The whole winter long. My car is rear wheel drive and manufactured in November 2021 and it will never have the ability to preheat or precondition the battery ever never. Luckily, like you, I have level two charging at home and I get 9.2 KW. The car is full every single morning and I have solar panels!!!!!! Although the last week or two, the charger has been shutting off prior to my 80% or 100% need??? They said something about VCU problems and maybe mine needs to be replaced?? I saw my inlet temperature go up to almost 220°F while charging at 9.2 KW in the garage…….. garage temperature was 45F

      Thanks for commenting. I am happy with my car. It has battery pre-conditioning but we only have 50KW/h chargers in my area of the country so not really a case for it yet. While my range is small my charge speed is as fast as I have available so that is. a positive. Thanks for watching. Thanks for a great comment.

    Hey Tim!!! Lovely video thank you. It really hit home when you said one of the biggest problems with the I5 that you want to spend more time in it. I have never driven 25,000 miles a year and I’m now 62 years old and retired and I have driven over 52,000 miles in two years with this car. I have the 77.4 kWh battery in the SEL rear wheel drive trim that was manufactured in 2021 and I bought it in Connecticut USA in January 2022. 303 miles per charge. 487 kms. This car is so stress-free and such a great place to spend time while you’re getting from point a to point B. I have never taken any long road trips. I do go 170 miles each way to the ski area once a week in the winter. The only major bummer with his car, and it does not really affect me, for six months a year I cannot fast charge because my iteration is not able to warm the battery or precondition the battery prior to charging. I believe 90% of EV owners charge at home but I’ll go with your 80% of EV chargers charge at home…….. I got free level two charging and free installation from my utility company. I drive into my garage and plug-in, and it’s ready to go in the morning.

    Nice overview. Keep an eye on the Battery Conditioning option staying toggled on. We've seen it unchecked once or twice without having manually gone in to do so. Not sure if it's ambient temperature related but it could be frustrating if you don't notice.

      Hi there. I noticed that for the first time last night. I went to do the test on a charger and it would not come on. Once I pulled over sure enough it was not checked. I am not sure why this would turn off. My temps have been the same for the last week. ON another note it is mostly not needed on my trips as the car charges at 49KW on any 50KWh charger I have around me. The two exceptions might be the Petro Canada chargers in Halifax and Stewiacke and if I leave the province or they install faster chargers here. Thanks for watching.
