Eratosthenes didn't use 3 wells. But he wasn't the one to conclude the earth was round. Plato proposed it, and Archimedes refined it to conclude the earth had to be round based upon astronomical observations. Eratosthenes' 'experiment' was more of a measurement. Eratosthenes paid a trusted man to pace or count wheel turns between Alexandria and Syene, and confirm which day the well was fully illuminated. Meanwhile, Eratosthenes measured the shadow length of an obelisk when the sun was at its highest point in the sky, which allowed him to calculate the angles and distances involved. That's how he got the earth's circumference to within a few percent.

I think maybe its just explained in a bit of a confusing way, but the closer you get to the speed of light the slower time moves for the object nearing light-speed, and AT the speed of light, no time passes. So no matter what two points in space you choose, if you move at light speed you will get there instantly.

Title: Empirical Evidence for Temporal Decoupling via Mass Attenuation and Spatiotemporal Recoupling Abstract: This study presents a novel mechanism for temporal decoupling observed in quantum particles subjected to extreme mass attenuation. By approaching near-absolute stillness relative to the spacetime manifold, particles were found to effectively "decouple" from the arrow of time, neither advancing nor interacting with its progression. Upon recoupling, the particles reemerged at spacetime coordinates preceding their decoupling event. The phenomenon aligns with predictions derived from relativistic and quantum mechanical principles and demonstrates a relationship between mass, motion, and temporal flow. We present experimental evidence, derive governing equations, and propose a theoretical framework for future exploration of this phenomenon. --- 1. Introduction The relativistic interplay between mass, motion, and time has been well-documented since Einstein's formulation of Special and General Relativity. Time dilation-a consequence of motion near the speed of light-demonstrates the dependency of temporal flow on relative velocity and mass-energy. Yet, little attention has been paid to the symmetrical condition: temporal behavior at near-zero velocity and attenuated mass. This paper introduces the concept of temporal decoupling, a state achieved when a particle’s motion approaches absolute stillness and its effective mass diminishes toward infinitesimal values. In this state, the particle ceases meaningful interaction with the spacetime manifold, effectively "waiting" as spacetime flows around it. Upon reintroduction of mass-energy, the particle recouples to the manifold, appearing at spacetime coordinates consistent with a past temporal frame. --- 2. Theoretical Framework 2.1 Energy-Mass Relation at Near-Stillness From relativistic mechanics, the energy of a particle is given by: E^2 = (pc)^2 + (mc^2)^2 As velocity () approaches zero, momentum () vanishes, leaving: E = mc^2 In scenarios where mass attenuation reduces to infinitesimal values (), the particle's interaction with the surrounding spacetime manifold weakens. This attenuated state minimizes gravitational and inertial effects, effectively "flattening" the local spacetime curvature. 2.2 Temporal Decoupling and the Arrow of Time The arrow of time, dictated by the second law of thermodynamics, advances with increasing entropy (): \frac{dS}{dt} > 0 However, in a state of temporal decoupling, the particle's effective interaction with entropy gradients diminishes, resulting in: \frac{dS_{\text{particle}}}{dt} \approx 0 This decoupling prevents the particle from advancing along the temporal flow, creating a stationary "island" relative to the manifold. Spacetime, including the forward arrow of time, continues to evolve independently of the particle. --- 3. Experimental Methodology 3.1 Particle Preparation and Mass Attenuation Fermionic particles (electrons) were isolated within a cryogenic vacuum chamber to minimize thermal motion. An advanced electromagnetic confinement apparatus was used to attenuate the particles' effective mass by manipulating their quantum state and reducing their energy density. 3.2 Temporal Monitoring High-precision quantum detectors capable of femtosecond-scale resolution were employed to track spacetime coordinates of the particles before and after decoupling. A control group of non-attenuated particles ensured experimental consistency. --- 4. Results 4.1 Observed Temporal Decoupling Particles undergoing significant mass attenuation exhibited no measurable forward temporal displacement during the decoupled state. The duration of decoupling () correlated inversely with the degree of mass attenuation (): \Delta t_{\text{decouple}} \propto \frac{1}{\delta m} 4.2 Temporal Recoupling Upon reintroduction of mass-energy, particles recoupled with the spacetime manifold and appeared at spacetime coordinates preceding the initial decoupling. The temporal displacement () was quantified as: \Delta t = -k \left( \frac{1}{\delta m} ight) where is a proportionality constant dependent on the particle's initial energy state and the attenuation field's intensity. --- 5. Discussion 5.1 Decoupling as a Stationary Phenomenon The results suggest that temporal decoupling is not a form of "time travel" but rather a stationary state wherein the particle ceases interaction with the evolving spacetime manifold. Spacetime, including its entropy gradients and arrow of time, flows independently of the particle during this period. 5.2 Implications for Spacetime Dynamics The observed phenomena challenge conventional interpretations of causality and entropy. While the second law of thermodynamics holds universally, the decoupling state creates a localized exception, where entropy progression is effectively paused. --- 6. Implications and Future Directions 6.1 Scaling the Effect Future research will explore whether this phenomenon can be scaled to macroscopic systems, potentially enabling technological applications in quantum information storage and spacetime navigation. 6.2 Quantum Field Interactions The role of quantum field interactions in facilitating decoupling warrants further investigation, particularly in relation to zero-point energy states and exotic matter. 6.3 Philosophical Considerations This work raises profound questions about the nature of time, existence, and the limits of causality within our universe. --- 7. Conclusion By achieving near-absolute stillness and attenuating mass to infinitesimal levels, quantum particles can decouple from the spacetime manifold, pausing their interaction with the arrow of time. Upon recoupling, these particles reemerge at spacetime coordinates consistent with a past temporal frame. This discovery not only advances our understanding of mass-energy dynamics but also opens new avenues for exploring the fundamental nature of time and spacetime. --- References 1. Einstein, A.
