I have been married 39 years. I had to do a lot of compromises. I love classical music, she hates classical music. I love hiking, she hates hiking. She loves shopping. I hate shopping. I am vegetarian. She loves eating meat. I hate horror movies. She loves horror movies. I like religions. She hates religions. However, a few thinks we both share: travelling, gardening, home renovations.

I find the enneagram's identification of fear, shame and anger as the three baggages that a person might carry; having a preference for or suffering from one of the three baggages anger, shame or fear. For example my own baggage is fear. I rarely experience anger and even less frequently do I experience shame. Maybe its like rock, paper, scissors and each of the three wishes to correct the error of the other two forgetting the baggage they carry themselves. Then also the enneagram describes the three needs or preferences sexual/intimacy, protection and social. Maybe those you speak of are to be found in particular segments of the enneagram as apposed to those described by other segments? I certainly relate to the desire for independence and enjoy more alone time than those I know. For me social interaction is like salt. Some enjoy far more salt on their food than I do. I gain energy when alone and great joy in solitary activities. For example I find solo hiking or biking or studying/reading/investigating incomparable to hiking or biking or studying/reading/investigating with others. This is not to say I am drawn to exclusively solo activities. But for me its like salt and some like more salt than others. I guess if what you say does happen it wouldn't be shared publicly so others can know and talk about them. I'm guessing it would be considered an intimacy by the couple and they would instinctively know it was to be kept within the couple and sharing things about a partner on youtube would be considered a breaking of that intimacy. I think so many people don't have a common and realistic vision for a long term relationship before marriage -- and especially for as children arrive, they don't renegotiate the vision as they go (hence divorces right after the kids graduate and leave home). I've been married now 40 years -- we've had ups and downs but managed to discuss our challenges through the years in difficult times. I am pretty sure that if anything happened to her (heaven forbid) I'd have a very, very difficult time finding another partner because so many people are self-centered, and look for someone to be their "be all and end all" -- people that are addicted to phones, Facebook, drugs, alcohol, child custody issues, vanity, riches, new cars, clothes, etc..... very few people that are content to just live life, nature, enjoy living in NOW, and experiencing the Light, Love, and Healing of Source /Creator God. Its very, very hard to find people that are laid back and not critical about every little thing others do (without ever bothering to examine their own behaviors)...... I think I would need to arrange a practical test of some sort -- invite someone to go with me to hand out food under a bridge or homeless campground or some sort of service project when it was cold, rainy, miserable weather..... you can't bring your phone....... in a semi dangerous part of town..... to see how they would behave.......see if they would joyfully help, smile, kindly help with compassion -- or sit and whine about their hair and ask how much longer do we have to be there...... to figure out what kind of person someone really is...... on the inside. You can find out an awful lot in a short time through observation under pressure. Kind of a pass /fail sort of test.

In my observation it is unhappy people who want a partner and the more unhappy they are, man or women, the more they want a partner. I have observed this in others and in myself. I refuse to be drawn to someone if I want them when or because I am unhappy and I know from experience when I am happy I have no desire for a partner because I am happy and when I am unhappy I want a partner. I don't follow my emotions in this decision, else I'd wish to use a woman to make me happy. Yes for me, there needs to be a non-emotional logic and reason to a relationship/living together. If i wanted children that would be a logical reason if she wanted children. If there were something else that demanded the sustained living together or a man and a woman (is there anything else?) then that wold be a logical reason. This logic isn't good news but I accept it even though whenever I am unhappy I want a partner and when I am happy I don't, and I wouldn't wish to make a women unhappy by my unhappiness nor have a womans happiness depend on my happiness.
