Books based on D&D settings should read like modules and adventures. I loved these books.

This series definitely sacrificed a lot of my braincells when I was (too) young (to read it) and shaped me for worse. And even though I enjoyed it a lot at the time, even so I started getting bored around 7th book or so. The series is god awful and has absolutely nothing of value to bring to the table and I'm glad more and more people are calling out the bullshit 😂

Ok so the bit with the cutters and other content is bad, you could never write that today. But were the uglies books so bad or just not some people preference. I like weird stuff, I liked the ideas in the books and I'm sure somewhere another author has done them better. Honestly I read uglies in grade school, they are diff rereading at 30, ideas of characters etc change and maybe it would have made a better vid game than a book or whatever due to vivid description on world. But it's not supposed to be hunger games, just because it's ya dystopian, themes were a comment on vanity and beauty perception. I mean I could easily say there was a Korean movie with similar themes to hunger games and ppl would argue with me. Every trope theme whatever has been done, there's nothing new left just new lenses to present a story. Honestly to me tally seems as dumb as sora or Riku in first KH game. Like the KH trio were freinds but the two teen boys were fighting over Kairi. Then by end of game they just wanted to be friends again and return home, tally is a dumb teen girl in a brainwashed society initially. And I think if some characters don't have best developement it's probably to emphasize perspective. Like book describes pretties as hyper beautiful, not like models in our reality, but more pretty. In the book it describes how if look at them you get a certain feeling, I mean they aren't vampires but it seems almost like that effect. So maybe by not have certain writing style it emphasizes psychology. Also it is young adult so it won't be Shakespeare style writing, plus nobody writes that way anymore

I love these kinds of videos (super long recaps of YA I read or was aware of as a teen.) These kinds of videos are so so much work, so I really appreciate it! Despite its popularity, I haven’t seen many Matched retrospectives, but I remembered DNF’ing it as a teen bc I was bored with dystopian YA tropes, even though I found the “Do not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” bit very impactful.

So I accidentally read the imposters series before the ugliest series and actually preferred it over the original. It held a more serious tone than Ugliest and I was still able to grasp the plot without prior knowledge of Uglies

Your explanation of Zodiac Academy reminds me of how I feel about the Office. It's so awkward and cringy and awful that I want to crawl inside myself and die constantly and I also keep watching it because despite it, there are moments that I just find hilarious within the absurdity that is the constant nopeness of the show.

Zodiac Academy is like a car crash. You don’t want to look but you can’t help yourself. I got to book 5 until I realized it was getting a bit too long and the content felt like filler but I still had fun (and MIGHT keep trying to read it in the future)
